A Los Fresnos C.I.S.D. school bus, parked outside Palmer Laakso Elementary School, becomes the thorn in the side of speeders. Find this story and more at www.valleycentral.com
+pre-med ref_14 doesn't matter, courts have said time and time again that speedometers can be as far as 5 MPH off without people knowing, changes to tires and problems with the speed sensors cause the problem. Its why police normally set their radar guns to trip 5-10 MPH over the posted limit.
***** not where I am, even in "strict enforcement" zones officers set their radar triggers 5 mph over. BTW that's NJ in case you are wondering. I also have never seen courts take 2 mph off of a ticket. But the 39 in a 35 is challengeable (and can be easily won.)
ghostofmars83 but what about 36 in a 35? How dare you not make money for the state! XD Im just playin. No cop in their right mind would waste time on 4 over.
+J Smith during a school time when kids get in/out of that place or when lights are blinking on the bus and theres a stop sign out it does matter but not when theres no lights or its not that time yet im not saying they didnt have lights this vid
Lol right? 35 or 39 either speed will flip a kid over the hood anyways and break some bones, a four mile per hour difference is hardly going to be on the fringes of life and death in an accident. It's sheer revenue collection, and school zones are an ez $500 as they throttle normal 40 MPH city speed to like 35 in less than 50 feet.
***** There are a dozen websites with different numbers and formulas, some say 60 feet others say 50. I'm curious to where you get the percentages for mortality out of that? It's like you're pulling them out of thin air; and most vehicle deaths occur due to rollouts not getting splatted by vehicles; which is a handling issue not a speed issue.
I Think in school zones the tolerances are tighter however a 4 mpg difference is totally ridiculous considering that drivers have to rely on their speedometers which can have offsets even more than this.. Here in PA on normal roads there is a 15 MPH tolerance with speeds under 55 and 6 mph above 55..
I actually did have to go to the bathroom and got pulled over and the cop escorted me to a convenience store and let me go after he saw me actually go to the bathroom
Gotta keep the kids safe lmao didn't you hear it's ok for cops to disobey the law. They'll just activate invisible hologram mode when a child runs out in front of the cop car lol
Thankfully the cops here have this thing called training. It helps them respond to random scenarios fast and effectively while responding to emergencies or pursuing someone. Good shit.
+Chriss Flitcroft The Cop does what is required to catch the perp. speeding cars do not have sirens and flashing lights. so are not obvious to kids walking out onto the road
in every state 1 mph over is a ticket offense. it is whether the officer and court locally decide to write it and prosecute it. some do some dont. some have thresholds 5mph. however in school zones it 99 percent of time is no tolerance. 1mph over they could write you. some states 1 to 5 is same fine some 1 to 10 over is same fine. depends on your state laws.
Back in the 80's a Washington state trooper gave me a ticket for going 53 in a 55 mile zone. The judge looked at the ticket in amazement, and naturally I asked him to dismiss the ticket. Which he did ,as everyone in the court room busted out laughing. That is how stupid it was.
Alex Bell I'm from Canada, we can do 10 over any speed limit no problem just can do 15 over and get an evil stare from a cop and that's it... 20 over your automatically stopped
DA REALTORONTO lucky man, yea 10 is pushing it for us. when i drove down to miami for the weekend, to go 100 i had a method. go fast on the downhills and then coast up the rise to about 80 then when u can see over the crest, and look for cops, just do that all over again.
Anyone can get hit whether your going 30mph or 39....the fact is that it is a normal speed and 3 miles over...it's really a matter of the police department earning a certain amount of money...someone who is a real offender is someone going 45-50 MPH in a 35 not 39
39 in a 35 is pretty ridiculous if you were anywhere else. I can understand getting pulled for that in a school zones. People should know that areas like that are enforced.
oEx0duSo you must not be very smart if you think that taking a speeding ticket you got in a school zone is going to be thrown out that easily. I'm sure the judge will make an example out of him. And for workout baby's comment- if you feel that cops are "making money" well you have no body to blame but yourself for giving them your money by not being able to do the speed limit.
If the object is to slow the general population down and get people to pay attention to their speed in the school zone, they will park in a marked car openly and conspicuously. If the object is to maximize revenue, they will park in a hidden area in order to increase the number of tickets written.
Danny you don't live in Northeast Indiana do ya? About two years ago I let a friend of mine clock traffic while hidden in my driveway behind a bush. I was in Florida on vacation, so he was keeping an eye on my house too. lol
Tyler McMillan oh cmon cops are the most hypocrtical pieces of shit on earth. they use their computers while driving, they speed all the time, they rarely signal a lane change, and they walk around with their fancy badge and gun thinking they're king shit.
***** get a job? im an electrician dude. so practically im the least thing from a criminal, don't assume random bullshit that you pull out of your ass lol
***** lol thats what every immature kid says because they dont know whats really involved in electrical. and my record is clean only involvment with cops was a speeding ticket lol, just cause i hate cops doesnt mean im a criminal. It just means im not a government sheep like you.
***** they shoot innocent people, half of the police are corrupt and work with gangs like the hells angels, they only do their job if they benefit from it: somebody stole my gps in a parking lot with cameras and all they did was tell me to remember to lock my car door, oh and like i said before they're the biggest hypocrites on the face of thee earth. Let me guess your dream is to become a member of the pig farm?
***** Dude have you bin living under a rock for the past couple of years? or are you just an adolescent who can't see the dark spots in modern society. There are thousands of crooked cops working for hells angels, mexican drug cartels and hundreds of other gangs. Gangs pay so much for a cop to side with them it's ridiculous. On another note remember that innocent black man who died from a heart attack while being wrestled to the ground by police? Asides from that my gps was stolen in a parking lot with surveillance cameras and they didn't bother checking the tapes or anything. And lastly maybe you should pull your head out of your ass and wake up to what the worlds really about. Corrupt governments, corrupt cops, and bullshit taxes.
If a child runs out in front of a car doing 35 his chance of survival is not much greater than if the car is doing 40 maybe teach your kids not to run out in front of cars.
+THE Nerv So that would be your justification for travelling 40mph outside a school zone? "Well...the child shouldn't run out in front of me". Yeah...but what happens if they do? Good drivers anticipate what dangers there might be based on their surroundings and outside a school a child is very likely to walk out into the road without looking.
I was going to say 39 in a 35 like everyone else, but then they said a guy was doing 37 in a 35 SERIOUSLY?! LOL cops wake up in the mornings and say I'm going to give this guy a ticket for doing 2 extra mph.
Speed limit is 35 mph for a reason. What the fuck would you think if you had a child (which I hope you don't ever) that walked home and was hit by some stupid fuck doing a few over the speed limit? Sounds to me that you are straight up cool with someone hitting your child based on your comment. C'mon guy act like you got a brain in your head and be reasonable. What is so wrong with doing the speed limit? I really want you to answer that question too. And don't be like "Oh it's too slow" because that is a straight up shitty ass excuse. I worked in LE so please entertain me with a legit answer that doesn't sound half as fucking retarded as your comment. And Nolan, you must be one of those kids you are referring to. This is a fucking Elementary school. Do you really think Elementary kids have the dangers of idiots speeding and not paying attention on their mind? No. All they are thinking about is going home or to a friends house and playing with their PS4's or XBOX One's or something and with today's gadgets, they are probably glued to their cell phones as soon as the dismissal bell rings.
Got to protect those kids that are playing in the road...and if you cross the street without looking you should probably go ahead and get hit by a car.
LakeBodomsReaper , true but a 4 mile difference means nothing. Besides those radars the cops use always seem to bump up your speed.. I was going 25 in a school zone and have a HUD which shows how fast I'm going and it said 25, the cop claimed I was going 30... BS!! Thats why I was pissed.
"I noticed you doing 39 mph in a 35 mph zone, so I'm going to turn on my ear piercing sirens and epilepsy inducing lights, force other motorists to the side of the road, and drive 60 mph + to pull you over and make our streets safer." Seriously, this is bad.
In PBC FL. School zone speed is 29 MPH but every school day there are speeders even with school children present, Fine here is $395 plus $ 20.00 for each mile over, but it still isn't a deterrent
School Zones have a speed limit of 40kmh (25 mph) here in Australia. It is also taken very seriously. Get caught and the fines are very harsh. Go too fast and your car is impounded and time for the courts to dispense punishment.
the problem is there not really speeding its overly exaggerated and its probably not even noticeable to the drivers. they need to focus on people who text or call while driving
I speed almost everytime I go on the highway been driving for 7 years and have easily done over 200k miles never had an accident or even a speeding ticket for that matter. There's a big difference between speeding and dangerous driving unfortently it's easier to just milk people for going over a random number then actually focusing on bad driving.
Wouldn't it cost less and be more effective to have a single officer watching the school to make sure no kid "escapes" and runs into traffic? hmm...maybe it's about money and not the kids.
Go see how big the average public school is. Also go see the average speed a cop can run. It only takes 5 seconds for a kid to get hit or less. Let's see a cop going running to save him a block or more away.
I was in front of a state trooper doing 80mph in a 70mph zone, he didn't pull me over. No cop is going to pull you over for doing 5mph over the speed limit
I got pulled over for going 35 (regular speed limit) in a school zone (25) next to my own high school in the middle of the day when there WAS NO SCHOOL. Cop tried to tell me I should know when my own school zone is active and how bad I would feel if I hit a classmate. I promised him I'd drive 25 mph the whole way home since on a day when school is out I better go slow just in case they all decide to walk to the store for no fucking reason. Thankfully my insurance was really understanding and promptly doubled my monthly rate.
+iPwnR It depends on what the speed limit sign said. If it says you have to slow down during certain times and doesn't specify which days, then you still have to slow down. For example, if it says the speed limit is in effect Monday-Friday, then if you are driving through on one of those days, the lower speed limit is still in effect. Maybe it's not fair, but it's the law.
What do you mean there was no school was it a weekend or summer.... if it was summer the signs with still be active because the summer school is in session.
Still illegal regardless. It's posted and you will get convicted at that point. All because of your darwin theory? Rather than pay a fine and learn a lesson. Or slow down and not risk lives at all? Darwinism isn't looking good for your train of thought.
You would if the U.S. ticketed like Finland which tickets by percentage of income which we should do. _"In 2002, a Nokia executive was fined the equivalent of $103,000 for going 45 in a 30 zone on his motorcycle."_ www.theatlantic.com/business/archive/2015/03/finland-home-of-the-103000-speeding-ticket/387484/
3 over?? if a kid crosses in front of them 3 mph while the limit is 35 nothing else would happen other than what would occur at 35. ticket the children for j walking instead
In regards to traffic law violations, the officer that witnesses the violation does not have to necessarily be the one to write the ticket. So long as the witnessing officer make clear logs with the ticketing officer then the citation is completely legal.
+Extremely Boring Names I guess so. where I live the officer and his car have to be visible while running radar. I must say tho hiding in a bus is sketchy.
There is a local elementary school where i live and at school hours before and after school the staff drag out these removable speed bumps and those things defenitly keep ppls speed in check
It seems to be as strict as in the Australian state of Victoria. A local campaign called "Wipe off 5" tries to bring the point home, by trying to point out that exceeding a speed limit by 5 km/h (3 mph) is stupid and dangerous.
The only times I've seen kids nearly get hit was when they tried crossing the street where they shouldn't. Or by running into the road without looking first. They're very little so they're hard to see. They should be educated on how to properly cross a street because even if people don't speed they can still get hit.
OfficeBear IMBACKURMAD It triggers a lot of people. I used to be a member but the freemasons in Idaho are way too old and too stuck with their ways. I only liked the ones in Nevada and California.
Sulfen, I've got an area on my daily commute where the regular speed limit is 55, but the school zone slows it down to 25 (!!). The school is also 0.3 miles from the road, and never it four years have I seen a child anywhere near it. Yet, every day, cops patrol it and I always see someone pulled over. It's quite frustrating.
Contest the traffic ticket because it may never hold up in traffic court. The officer who witnesses the speeding violation has to be the one who writes the citation. The other officers can pull the driver over but the witness of the violation has to be the one that writes the traffic ticket.
