A Highway Patrol trooper who caught another officer speeding to an off-duty job at 120mph is suing for more than $500,000 - saying his allies harassed her after he was fired.
Florida's Donna Jane Watts made national headlines after handcuffing Miami Police Department officer Fausto Lopez, while he was in full uniform and driving a police car.
Since the incident in 2011 she claims she has had threatening calls on her cell phone, police cars idling outside her house and fellow officers accessing her private driver's license information.

Every single cop on the planet needs to have this woman's attitude. Cops 'look after their own'? Not if they have a dumbass in their midst, or a cop that's known to be corrupt and horribly so. They should NOT protect these types people even if they are cops. If a cop has even one shred of character he will do what it takes to get rid of corruption and the bad seeds at his place of business, even if it's another cop. That, after all, is what he's getting paid to do. Cops should not suffer the bad guys working in their field. If someone is corrupt, they've got to go.

+TrueLoner cops are to represent their uniforms and badges what is it? to serve and to protect all of their citizens. they are not above the law and their lives are no more important then ours. they are being taught by who? OTHER COPS. What does that tell you? They act like natzies. Ever look at the swat teams and some of the prison guard's uniforms? They use { german } sheperds in their work. Look back on hitlers films, you can see the similarities. Can you see now? Do I smell a take over? The public should be marching in droves against such actions.

You're lumping them all into one group. Not all cops are bad or corrupt. I don't believe most are. I believe some are. It's time for the good ol' boy mentality to change. Cops shouldn't accept a known corrupt cop in the force and do all they can to get that individual out. As for the dogs, to me they're just dogs, a breed known for it's guarding/protection abilities. Lots of people love German Shepherds for those qualities, not just police. My mom and dad had a German Shepherd. My neighbors have one. Are they nazis, too? I don't see any connection to Nazis at all.

Yet, there are also many people in these departments that chose to be a police officer in order to do good. More likely there is no change as people sign up to be cops for different reasons. Some genuinely believe in the 'Protect and Serve' motto, some just want a job; Then you get some who are corrupt because they saw the possibilities the position provides and thought f**k it and become criminals with badges. Then worst of all the ones who just joined up because they either want to be legally able to shoot people or generally have power of them - these ones are the types that don't like having the status quo interrupted most of all.

Nikolai508 I don't know what you mean by "up the training." From what I understand, the problem is that police are trained as if they're a military unit and citizens are the enemy. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Militarization_of_police Look how big the United States section is compared to the others. I think the cops get fat after the fact, because a lot of the job is sitting down and driving around, a desk job, and paperwork, but I could be wrong.

In the UK our cops are trained to be very diplomatic and fair with the population and yeah we get the odd arsehole but there's never any special protection for cops in the wrong here. Amen.... we need righteous cops like her. If I lived in her town and needed security at her I am her first volunteer. I have had and still have family in law enforcement. My uncle served as a country Sheriff back in the 80's with a semi similar situation. The county and state gave him and his family protection both physical on the ground and air for months. I praise this officer for her devotion to her job and our country.

SAMUEL ADAMS That was my surprise with this case, ..how it was that the arse cop even got fired, ..and going by whats been reported about how many other cops were obviously stalking Watts over time, it's quite clear they were all at the ready to pounce on her for any indiscretion, to have her railroaded. She should be promoted and give a large broom. I believe the system has been broken for so long, that I know not the answer to that question. I never have believed in this "blue line" concept. Of course you stand up for your fellow officer. *But not if he/she is in the wrong!!!* Late for his other job? What the hell? She followed proper procedure here. Someone is going 120 miles per hour they are an extreme risk and need to be taken off the road. And at that speed, especially in a police car, of course you draw your weapon. A regular citizen does something like this and the officer will have the weapon drawn telling you "HANDS OUTSIDE THE VEHICLE!!" And then her fellow cops want to harass her for following proper procedure? And she's taken off road patrol? These people need a wake up call. Sue 'em, sister. Give them the wake up call the so *desperately* need.

I used to work in a telemarketing firm and we had an ex cop come work there for a little while. He was embroiled in a lawsuit with the with West Palm Beach Police. And they were harassing him and his family so bad they had to move.

My B.I.L told me himself to use his name if I got pulled over.. I told him " dude I don't want to ride your coat tail" .he said you better.. your stupid if you don't... I did ONE time with a trooper and when I told him his name.. he was like " Oh he's your bro in law" Ok here's your warning".. so I know damn well THEY take care of their own.. its good and its bad..

@[A]ddiction I understand that in the case of a cop pulling a gun on a citizen, it could be justified. But put yourself in that cop's position and you have a friendly pulling a gun on you. Like wtf man. This is a fellow cop we are talking about. Unlike those "citizens" you describe, this cop presents no threat to that trooper whatsoever. So why pull a gun on him? That to me is completely unnecessary. From my perspective I think this trooper just wants her 15 minutes of fame, knowing that such a rare occurrence on her dashcam feed would be brought up in the news. Also next time, feel free to attack my point with an argument. You dont need to insult people just to get your point accross.

THEY (the upper police administration) fired him - the little people (police officers of lesser rank) are taxing her for not upholding the cops vs citizens wall of silence that keeps them from prosecution. They know that the more incidents like this get reported the more people question and interfere with police power. Once the dam cracks that means police actually becoming liabel for making decisions that lead to death or serious injury to citizens on the job. These cops got too close to organised crime and absorbed all the wrong lessons from them.

I AGREE!!! I work for a large insurance company, and we have a VERY strict policy on Unauthorized Access; EVEN IF no harm is done and the person never finds out you accessed their info. Now obviously, if you misspelled the name and accidentally went into the wrong account, it's no big deal. But if you try to claim you "accidentally" misspelled Mrs. Jones name by entering the name of your ex girlfriend, and "accidentally" wrote down your ex girlfriend's new phone number, then you can't really explain that away, right? =p To protect client's privacy, people who violate that rule, are terminated immediately. It's a good rule to have, even though we just deal with Property, Casualty and Life insurance. What can we really do? Ooohhh, I sent out an extra Car Insurance card, HA! Take that! lol Though it's even MORE imperative to have a strictly defined rule like that in a situation where you can seriously screw up someone's life with an improper account access! The crux is, police have unions, better unions than us regular people, and they have Union Attorneys, etc to protect them when they screw us over.. But who is supposed to protect us from them? And who protects the honest cops like her, from the rest of the pig patrol?

I would think this same thing would happen to that person if he or she got caught doing it, pretty sure your friend would have to be responding to a emergency to which the possible police officer who caught him or her speeding with his or her lights on would also be responding to. If there is nothing to respond to I would think it would be very easy to catch your friend doing the same thing we saw in this video.

ja son Not my friend, but this is very common among LE, have you never observed LE even turning their lights on to go thru a red light then turning them off again? Abuse of power is very common among police and I truly wish people wuold quit acting like it is not. After all, why would it not be? Very very few convictions and job terminations happen to government employees cops of course being within that league.

There were over 200 violations. At $2500, each, that's actually over $500,000. And how to heck do you know who the idols of strangers are? Could it be, since your math has been proved bad, they've become your idols, now, even if not ours? If you were mistaken because you heard there had been 88 perps, you should understand, in america, if 200 crimes are committed, there can be at least 200 charges issued, even if the number of violators be fewer. You don't get to go on a crime spree here and expect but one charge.

Federal law requires that ALL LEOs obey all the same laws that you and I do. This is especially true of traffic laws - unless they are showing lights or siren. I didn't see either of those in the dashcam. This means the FHP officer was EXACTLY RIGHT in arresting the MPD officer. Let me say this: If a police officer pulls over a vehicle for any sort of moving vioilation and the driver identifies himself as a LEO, the officer should write the ticket - period. There should not be any letting the offending driver off with a warning out of "professional courtesy". That's not professional courtesy. That's both of you urinating on your badges.
