Finished railings and post are returned to the jobsite and installed with flooring adhesive and special fasteners like the Zipbolt Super UT newel post fastener and the Festool Domino XL connector between the railing and the post. The next and final step will be to install the balusters into the stair treads on this open stair case.

Can you please do a short on the tool you are using with the drill to tighten the fittings. Guessing it is using some type of magnetic property. I feel you talked about it before but I am unable to find the video Thanks so much for the great videos.

You are welcome and I am encouraged that the videos are helpful. This is the Lamello Invis intro video. I have more on my channel as well. Cheers Scott ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Xaw5x4I06D8.html

I wonder how you were going to do that big plug. I've asked the store I install for if we can have the newel prefinished and then once I install it if I could sand off the entire side where my plugs are so just that one side has to be finished on site. You can't just sand the plug you have to sand the whole side as you know. The problem is that's the last thing to be done and then you have to make multiple return trips to do the touch up finish. So unless its right near my next job or on my way home it doesn't make sense. To avoid using plugs on prefinished newels I've used the LJ-3004 newel mounting hardware, have you ever use them? The problem with it, is that it's really tricky getting them plumb and the connection is not that strong. But if its a very short run they seem to work for most people. Typically the railings I replace are so wobblily that anything is an improvement. If I have a say in the project I always discuss the pros and cons of each type of installation with the homeowner. I like how you used adhesive with the hardware when attaching the newel? Do you ever bury the newel in the floor when the job allows for it. That is the best install I believe, as well as notching it into the riser and tread. If I'm installing treads and risers (new or rebuild) I'll add tons of blocking and bracing (2 by material) with screws and adhesive tying in the stringers together and also to the floor so the stringers can not flex when someone torques on the newel post from the very top. That make for a very secure install. Its a lot of work but works especially great. Unfortunately, not all jobs allow for it.

Also those handrail brackets are new to me. I've never came across them here in the states. Are they common in Canada?

I haven't used the LJ-3004. I've used the Fas-N-Fast fitting with great success. I have also dropped the post into the floor on a number of occasions but have yet to do a video on it. Leaving the plug-side of the newel unfinished until the end is also an option, but like you said you're having to return to finish it off. By far the best thing to do is plug, sand and then finish with stain/clear-coat after. I agree with you that securing the stringers to stop them from flexing is also a great idea. I too have replaced many a newel post that I could push over with my bare hands. That is why they've changed the code. I'm glad. Thanks for comment, Scott

@@t.e.1189 Those are old-school brackets that are rarely used anymore. They were available and the customers preferred them over the metal brackets. They do look nice with this style of railing. I personally prefer the metal brackets. This is the first time I've used them. Cheers, Scott
