In my short time swimming it’s obvious to me that in the water technique is key. I also run and find that if I simply try harder I can run faster; the density of water doesn’t allow that when swimming. A good technique at low effort easily beats a poor technique at max effort. Great video thank you.

It looks like he's pulling a lot harder, especially at the end of the stroke. Hard to tell about the difference in kick. My point is that the flat demonstration looks a bit rushed, while the walker one a bit stretched out. It's great that this technique works for him and some of the principles may be useful to others, but just look at different championship level swimmers, their technique can vary greatly. Just find what works for you and your body.

Superb demonstration to prove that how inefficient it is if we learn and continue the classic method of flat-body-in-water swimming technique. Compared to this technique ocean walker method, turning with leg kicks, hips turning top side to bottom side, done hill arm catch and pulling action , pulling through when on the side and rotation of arms in semi circle , saves cadence and is extremely energy sustainable. This athelete has swam in all oceans in the World and has come out of multiple operations in his shoulders and permanent injury . Motivational

Hi, really great achievements. Are that breaststroke kicks with your hip rotation stroke? And to answer the question regarding 1:11 : it's not 1:11/100m, that type of endless pool would struggle to push your speed to 1:11/100m, it's not build for that speed.
@realalbertan
@realalbertan 5 лет назад
There is a commercial version of the endless that can do 57/100m, the regular one does about 1:13-14. Definitely not a breaststroke kick you are seeing, that would add a lot of side drag

To me, it looks like he has to kick a lot more during the glide of the 2nd style. His feet aren’t moving much in the 1st style where as the 2nd style, his feet are kicking more, so much so, that they break the surface a number of times. If that’s correct, he’s swapping muscle groups, namely (smaller) shoulder muscles for quads & hip flexors(???). Bigger muscle groups would be better I guess.
@RalphSampson...
@RalphSampson... 3 года назад
He kicks once with each arm stroke. That's all. Same leg as the arm. I think it will be tough to learn. He has another video where he explains how to do it and a camera under water Or wait maybe, it was another guy. Still, it was the same technique explained. I'll see if I can find the link. If you want to see underwater have a RU-vid for some Olympic underwaters. Can't remember the swimmer now but distance events like the 1500m. Many will do 1 kick down at the same time as the arm pull on the same side. It really lets you engage the lats and all the muscles in the chain. It's a nice way to swim. I believe myswimpro have good series on this. Not a stroke for sprinting though. That kinda thing is entirely shoulder driven and why the 50m boys always look super hench compared to distance swimmers.

open fingers for regular crawl! nuff said
@michaelhatch1974
@michaelhatch1974 Год назад
Open fingers is standard for the crawl. In the other example he actually has a smaller hand surface by closing the fingers on his left hand (the right is still open). There were other things that he does to exaggerate the difference in stroke rate but the reality is the second stroke goes further. At least 20 strokes per 100 less. It doesn't work so well if he wants to sprint. But this is ultra distance style, open water technique.
@2laidragon
@2laidragon 6 лет назад
Actually both your flat and rotation swim are just as good, have you race with yourself let's say on a 400m sprint, pushing yourself to the limit to see which stroke help you to finish first?

It's not a matter speed. It's a matter of endurance and distance traveled with less effort. In this example, he is swimming at the same rate of speed. The water flow did not change.

No question Adam can swim, but consider one thing, the pool does not have the whole cross section of streamed water flow, only top 30cm or so, if his stroke count is higher than the friction of his arm is higher against the stream, not so if he let's the arm rest in a straight forward position as he does on his second approach, he should swim a Flusspool.ch and try this...
