Hi Adam- I am a subscriber to your Vimeo lessons and have been practicing your technique for a month. I am starting to get it. The hardest thing for me is keep my head looking down, and arms down. I find myself getting tense after a while and looking forward and have my arm high.😅😅😅 difficult to lose the bad old habits. Yesterday, I was able swim 800 yards at 2:15. Faster than the usual 2:30 pace. So happy.

In CrossFit we were coached to create movement as ‘core to extremity’,i.e. winding up the core and allowing that elastic energy to flow out along the limbs, accelerating them through the leverage. I can see exactly the same principle at work here. The hip rotation assists in whipping the driving arm back, with the added benefit of getting the body out of the way of the arm as it sweeps back. The benefits of less shoulder impingement during recovery are also very clear to see! Keen to put some work in now and see what this feels like in the open water…👍😊

I want to get back into swimming and hearing your British accent brought back some great memories. I'm a gay man from Lithuania and visited England in 2018 for the Gay Pride Parade in London. I had such a wonderful time. I met these two professional swimmers at the parade and they invited me to their home after the celebration and they gave me a double full body massage while nude. It was the best massage I ever had and and I will never forgot the experience. Just thinking about it puts a big smile on my face.

@@adamwalker32 Thank you Adam, I hv tried it two times. And watched your video many many times, It really helps a lot. One thing I want to consult you, the rotation of the hip generated by the same side kick, right? When you kick, you feel the power start from leg and then support your same side hip, and at the same time your same side stroke support your shoulder to be a high position. That's so wonderful. 🙏🙏🙏👍👍👍

Thank you for your videos, Adam. I bought a few of your videos and practising now! I'm doing one arm drill and see the benefits already. Wouldn't it be beneficial to not swim like left-right-left-right(cuz in this case during rotation we stay flat) but decrease the frequency of rotation so to speak? Like 3-6 catches by the right arm and the same with the left arm? To save time in an intermediate(flat) position.

Hi again Adam, so like I said on another video I commented on, I'm an old geezer living on Mallorca (with direct sea access at foot of our Garden!) I couldn't ever do the front crawl.. never was taught.... Won't ever go in a swimming pool (unless it's salt water!) So I decided to try and learn from watching your videos (sorry.. but I ain't got any dosh to buy your videos.. would love to.. but I'm afraid it's a long story of how I am where I am!! which is A LONG WAY AWAY from my native Scotland!!) - So, do you think it's possible for a person like me, who's never ever even done a front crawl before to learn this? I seem to be getting on really good... but it's alot to remember when in the sea!! haha.. and where I am, it's right in the open... not in a sheltered bay.. so it's always pretty choppy!! My question is, do you adapt when it's choppy? as it's alot more difficult (I find) to do all this when it's choppy...U look fantastic here in the flat waters... To be honest, I'm waiting for the day here when the water is totally calm and then my lass will video me..I seem to know myself when I get it all right.. as it just feels effortless and I seem to move at some pace!! But there is always alot of boats around here... I mean ALOT!! so it's hard to get into a rhythm! I'm loving it that much that I am going to continue this right through the winter! I mean, I brought my wet suit here from Scotland (Used to surf up in Tiree in holidays!!) - My lass tells me I look really good in the water doing it.... so she's gonna video me so I can see...for someone who's never ever done front crawl... I have no idea... But i'm easily doing 3kms every morning for last 3 weeks now (that's only how long I've been doing it!!) - I am already pretty fit as I am a cycling guide here on Mallorca (on and off road) - I just wish I had done swimming long ago!! as I LOVE IT!! I used to be scared of the sea!! truly!! but not now!! and Believe it or not, I have webbed toes on my feet!! haha...I'd like again to thank you for these free youtube videos.... If I can swim half as good as you.. then I'll be well happy!!! cheers from Scottish bloke stuck in Paradise!!!

This is great to hear!!! Thank you for the message. In choppy water you can hold the glide longer and go under the waves with a deeper head and lower arm. Don’t try and go through the waves. The technique is the same method in all conditions 👍

@@adamwalker32 Thanks for replying Adam... Yeah....I must admit, I love it choppy now!! haha... when you think I couldn't even swim before I came to end up on this little island!! I'm totally loving it!! I feel so alive!! I obviously need alot of work on your technique... once my lass video's me.. I can see for myself... He, I taught myself to ski at aged 5 by just watching others.. (went on to become a ski guide in Alps...) same with cycling...now swimming... for sum1 who actually feared the sea before... I can't wait till November 1st... and ALL tourists leave here.. and all boats are out the water... then I can really go for it.. I plan to swim all winter this year (after all.. I do have a wetsuit!!) - and we get some great days here in winter... infact, for me (and Locals) November 1st till April is the best time here!! for cycling too!!!! thanks again... I'll let u know how I get on

Swimming speed is stroke rate times distance per stroke. If you are rotating more, with the same power put into rotation, stroke rate is naturally going decrease. Does the saving in effort and increased efficiency compensate for the drop in stroke rate? I guess that is the question every swimmer must try and find out for him/herself.
@Rory626
@Rory626 Год назад
Yes. The rotation into the pull gives you more momentum into the stroke as you accelerate into it through your core. So distance per stroke increases and you get a really big glide
@mannsmedia
@mannsmedia 3 года назад
Thanks for sharing! I always can take away a lot from your advice. No offense though but in my humble opinion it seems that you end your pull to quickly. Maybe it’s the video angle, maybe it’s because of the body rotation (and your arm is hidden from above). It’s just that your arm seems to be coming out of the water before your pull has reached its full potential (and maximum power), I miss the slight „scratching“ moment of your thighs. You know what I mean? It’s the last 5-10% of the pull phase which - as I learned works best for me at least - should be made at 100% of power. You do this for a reason I guess. Is it to „save“ energy?
@brigitt8149
@brigitt8149 2 года назад
I can relate to that but then - my legs are much shorter than Adam's, compared with the trunk. That doesn't mean he is wrong: I just applied his arm technique with the result, that I used more laps... Simply wonder!

You have kind of a quirky arm movement with your crawl in that you do one stroke, and the other hand/arm waits until the other arm returns... then the othe arm goes. Kinda bizarre.
@martinlalala7519
@martinlalala7519 3 года назад
I guess this is to control the rhythm and also increase buoyancy, so as to save energy
