FFRF's co-president, Dan Barker, interviewed Julia Sweeney at our 2022 National Convention in San Antonio.
Sweeney, an actress, comedian, author and director, was cast member on Saturday Night Live from 1990 to 1994 and has created several one-person comedy shows. Her third one-person show, “Julia Sweeney: Older & Wider” has run in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago and at an FFRF convention. It was filmed and will be released in 2023. She is also a recipient of FFRF’s “Emperor Has No Clothes” Award.

I'm not an atheist but I am so fascinated by her. I love that she is not lukewarm and really thinks things out. She is wise in many ways.

And when I joined the national guard, they asked me what religion I wanted on my dog tags and I told them atheist and they refused to put it on my dog tax. I argued with this old chaplain about how I wasn’t an atheist, and he said no one’s an atheist, he compromised and put agnostic after a half an hour of arguing.

Are all, or the majority, of atheists so closed off to the possibiility of the supernatural without tangible proof? It's one of the reasons I can't be an atheist. I can't close myself off from an unlikely possibility even if I don't like it.
