Join me for a very special Conversations with Alan in The Locher Room on Wednesday, January 6, 2021 at 7 p.m. EST. My life story is one that could have turned out quite differently if not for some very brave men and women who risked their lives and the lives of their families to save my mother and father when the Nazi's started rounding up Jews in Holland during World War II.
Tonight I will share my mother’s personal story of survival and talk about those brave men and women who are the reason my sister and I are alive today. Joining me tonight will be two very special guests live from Holland. Regina de Graaf Korlaar and Janita de Groep Korlaar are the granddaughters of the two people who risked everything for my mother and grandmother to survive. Their one act of humanity not only saved two lives but brought two otherwise unconnected families together and created a bond that has continued on today, 75 years after the war, through the next generation and hopefully through the future generations to come. I share this story with all of you so that we never forget what happened to the 6,000,000 Jews and remember Whoever Saves a Life; Saves the World. Tonight you will also hear from my mother in her own words.
I started Conversations with Alan to have honest conversations to make us all think about our own place in History. As you listen to my mother's story I share tonight about these brave men and women who changed the trajectory of my life, consider this: What would you have done if my mother and grandmother showed up on your doorstep? The story below illustrates difficult decisions and daring acts of compassion that took place to save my mother.

Oh Alan. This was powerful. Whoever saves a life saves the world. Those lovely women come from a family that saved your world. L’dor var Dor. Generation to Generation. I knew in my heart that your family were survivors when you said your parents were from Holland. I just knew. I’m such a big fan of what you do. Tonight raises it to a much higher level. “120 years of health to you and your family.”

Dear Mr. Locher, I have enjoyed your video conversations so very much with actors from the daytime dramas of beloved memory. To view your smiling countenance during this past year and listen to your deep knowledge and memory has been a tremendous comfort during this dreadful pandemic. I have found refuge in your interviewing style. I have laughed many times with you over the stories shared. And it is always been with a grateful heart. And now... Now to hear your deeply personal and moving family's experiences during that awful period in history shines a new light on yourself and that period. I am so moved to hear of the underground network of compassionate people who risked so much for your mother and grandmother. What wonderful strength and courage it took...on the part of your their to carry on when things must have appeared so dark and so bleak. What fortitude it must have taken. Every sound...every noise could lead to certain death. Clearly you and your sister come from such strong survivors and I like to think I can see that trait in you with your postings. If I may be so bold sir, you share in their courage. That is you have provide here and what is necessary in order for us to glimpse inside your family history. Not everybody could do it...but you have done so brilliantly. This part of history must never be forgotten and I am so glad that you have documented it here. I shall be forwarding the link to many people to listen and learn. The voices of the past shall continue to echo. With events so fresh in all of our minds from this week it can only serve to remind people what can occur when hatred goes unchecked...when vicious cruelty by a few begins to gain a toe hold into society. It has been said that unless we learn from history's mistakes, we are doomed to repeat them. Please God let us learn from the history you have graciously provided for us here. Thank you so much for sharing your family's history as an opportunity to learn. AND NEVER LET US FORGET.

Alan, I worked with Monique at Peoplexpress in the 80s and have reconnected with her over the troubles of a dear mutual friend. Monique mentioned your channel to me. Your mom's story is remarkable, as is the family that basically adopted her and her mother. I love stories of survival, stories of kindness, all such stories but especially those that occur in the midst of chaos, tumult, and general evilness - those stories restore our faith in humanity and reinforce my belief that kindness and goodness will always win over evil! Monique told me that you live quite close to me - I'm in Warren. After Covid is over, it would be great to meet you and your husband. Best to you, Tim

This is an amazing and touching story. I'm sorry for all your Mother went thru. I'm not proud of my German heritage because of what they did. I just don't understand how or why the world let this heinous crime against humanity happen. For all your family had to endure I apologize. Your Mother managed in spite of it to raise a wonderful caring man. Thank you for sharing this with me.

What a beautiful tribute to your Mother. I am so moved by your long-term relationship with the family who risked so much to preserve your Mother and Grandmother's lives and above all, how the farm always remained her safe place. The image of her returning to the farm throughout her life is so powerful and so moving. Thank you for sharing.

Hi Tanya, Thank you for the sweet note and more importantly for watching. I hope we can get you on to talk about your project. Robin shared it with me. Really interesting and fits to what I'm trying to do with Conversations with Alan. This episode was difficult as it's my mom's story. I have a new episode airing tomorrow with an incredible guest if you have time to watch. Speak soon. Alan

Being of African-American descent and who know what but some Native Americans and Europeans are in our ancestry. I haven't had my DNA tested. I think of all the terrible things that were done to innocent people. I thank God for the kindness done for your Mom and her family. 😭🙏💔
