I'm just some dufus home owner guy out there. But you are BADASS with your basic technicals and also with your video processing. THANK YOU. My problem, which you are helping with, is my passed fathers home unit. It's a R22 system and at least 30 years old. Major brand, I forget which right now. Over the years I've already repaired - moving the drip conduit from the indoor blocked drain to the exterior; the circuit board (which I got for $40 after waiting awhile) which had the spark igniter failure; the condenser capacitor; the condenser exhaust fan; the handler fan (twice); and other minor maintenance. The unit has been great on heat (after the control board replacement), no CO problems, but the cooling function has gradually declined over 20 years. I recently became aware of the schrader valve thing and this is where I want to compliment you. You are not afraid to share pertinent information. THANK YOU. Your video CONFIRMS the idea of FUCK IT, REPLACE THE SCHRADERS - DO IT - DO IT NOW (The Matrix) I observed your use of valve core removal tools and end hose cutoff valves, all which should be part of any ACmaintenance regimen (THANK YOU). I now have possession of these tools. They are an integral tool for any ac mechanic. They are not "neat" or "cool". They are essential (THANK YOU). I now am "hunting for red october" for a local technician who knows what for on conversion from R22 to R422B. My father left me some R22 but I don't know where it is now. And anything that can reduce my costs to get the old unit running is valuable. Anything you could offer about oil calculations would be nice. THANK YOU Once again - BADASS.

422b runs low suction with r22 metering device. A larger piston will work or adjust txv open more. If not your saturated suction will stay under freezing.
@JeffsHVACAdventures
@JeffsHVACAdventures Год назад
Good point. I was right around 38° saturation temp when it was fully charged. And it had basically no load in the space. I felt pretty good with it after I finished.

Just out of curiosity and this is just a question and nothing more. Why use R422B over say MO99(R438B) or one of the others available? I know there are like 10-15 choices. I found R438B or 422B are the two best besides R22 itself. I still have two full R22 jugs for specific systems. But I have also been putting in new compressors and TEV's and using 410A since the coils for R22 are so stout and mostly copper, they work amazing, if you can find 5-ton condensers that are still good, the swap is quite affordable. So far I have done four and they are all pounding away just fine. The newer coils and condensers are so prone to leaking, an old timer asked me why I didn't just swap the compressor, TEV, clean-out the lines and run 410A? I didn't even think about it before that day. I am shocked how well it has worked so far. So I am always curious why some techs use different "drop-ins" It is nice not having to change oils with R422B and R438B, that is why I use those two.
@JeffsHVACAdventures
@JeffsHVACAdventures Год назад
No specific reason really. I’ve used M099 and didn’t find any issue with it. The 422B is just the most readily available in my area.

@@JeffsHVACAdventures Thank you for the response! I really enjoy your content and being a tech myself and business owner, getting other’s opinions help me. I have run them both and did not notice much difference either. Denver’s altitude and arid climate makes for an interesting change in pressures and output. We lose about 4% of output capacity for every 1000’ above sea level. I live about 6500’ in the suburbs, so we have to adjust for that. Thanks again and keep up the great content!!

I have a question if you dont mind? My heat pump was changed out to R422B.. I was charged $150 for each pound. That seems very high. I dont mind paying a reasonable markup but that seems excessive. Question: What is considered a reasonable markup. My markup seems to be 500% or more. Is that typical or should I be talking to the company?
@JeffsHVACAdventures
@JeffsHVACAdventures Год назад
Something to remember, every market is different. What I can buy and sell 422B for might not be what the contractor you used can get it for. Also Different regions have different mark ups. That being said, $150 per lb does seem a little high but if you call the company I’m sure they would be able to explain the mark up to you.

Add 20% POE oil into the system on top of the mineral oil. Then use 407c and you’ll rarely ever have make any additional adjustments. But for that POS unit ,any option is a good one.

I've tried to fill my R22 unit with 422D and thought that it was difficult to get the settings dialed in. There seems to be a huge lack of info for 422D but I'm a diy guy. Does 422B run similar as D? Or are they totally different animals? Thanks so much for any advice

Hey ! What is temp conservation
@JeffsHVACAdventures
@JeffsHVACAdventures Год назад
Temp compensation? It takes the rise or fall of temperature into consideration when your performing your pressure test and adjusts the delta T of your pressure so it looks like you haven’t dropped any.
