Thanks for making these recent videos. i agree to most of your points. ive complained that this would be better as another lock style, say frame, liner or backlock. instead the CQI fixed the action (which is welcome, but it goes to show what people do with there knives and what they complain about). i kind of look at it like, i could get that different lock, if i bought a custom. Spyderco executed the knife the maker designed. they made this off the prototype he provided. had the maker got constructive criticism from testers, he may have provided fixes to the design and its challenges. had it not been a compression lock prototype, Spyderco may have never even made it. like any knife that spyderco makes, they will deffer to the fact the maker made it that way and they execute it to the spec of the designer/prototype. so they may or may not have noticed the issue. I think the glaring issues warrant changes, but ultimately it depends on the scale of change wanted... i really like the knife for what i can use it for, also like the makers work. its why it matters to me. i end up not wanting to carry it because of these issues. but if people prefer to have a better action than fixing the lock type, then it will just be what it is. would be sweet to get a similar model with different lock. this is a good knife regardless, and its a part of the collection because of that. but i am not using it as much because its not as virtual as i thought it was going to be.
As a new and tentative Kapara owner, I appreciate all the detail you’ve provided on its use in your recent videos. I’m not sure whether I want to keep the Kapara now that I’ve been able to compare it in hand to my SpydieChef. The compression lock implementation bugs me just as you’ve described. The handle isn’t as comfortable as I expected in my XL hand. And it’s not nearly as thin behind the edge as my SpydieChef. My Kapara is 0.020 inches behind the edge. The strange thing is that its edge bevel is quite tall. It’s about 1.4-1.5 mm from the bottom of the primary bevel to the edge, and that’s at least twice as tall as my SpydieChef’s edge bevel. Is this an unusually tall edge bevel for the Kapara, and does that in part account for the thickness behind the edge? Mine’s 0.020 inches compared to the 0.016 inches you cited. Thanks!
The reason I like a few folders in my kitchen is because the edges are protected while in a drawer or rack. Good bulking diet-- high-protein, low starch. How are the gains coming? Are you supplementing with creatine? Remember plenty of sleep and a couple days between lifting: growth occurs during off days.
I hear you. It wasn't until recently i got a good system for kitchen knives (drying and storing) but after having that, i can't go back. I really want to get some more kitchen knives. I was even considering doing videos on them as well. About a month ago i was doing really good. I was holding around 8% body fat at 160lb. But after i started going back to school, and continuing with the videos. I definitely started loosing a lot of sleep, then things start to fall apart. Not complaining, I've never been happier with the channel. But i need to try and balance time a little better for sure. Time management is a bitch lol. I use Creatine, Beta alanie, and i cant remember the last one. It's one of the more important supplements. I can't think of the name tho.
Great video. It did look like the SpydieChef cut much more cleanly. That super ground blade likely has something to do with that. I may have to talk with Big Brown Bear about doing something similar.
Yea man. I said in the video it's not really fair cause the spydiechef has the bbb regrind. Its about .001 or 2 thinner behind the edge then even the kitchen knife. I forget what the factory geometry of the spydie. Im assuming factory would be the same as the kapara. Not positive tho.
I’m looking forward to your Kapara GAW. What day will you be drawing the number? I thought it was going to be on Wed @ 3pm. It’s really cool you do so many GAW’s.
