I love how aylmer sounds so human and understanding which makes hims even more scary his human voice fools his leach like appearance and he didn't even need to growl at brain all he needed to do was softly threaten him
Huh, I never made that connection. They did a pretty kickass job of getting across a positive message without making a preachy movie. I've got more respect for it now.
okay, now I don't care much for shitty movies or something but after watching this, I have to say that the writing and puppetry of the 80's is what really gets me. I fucking love it when they use real things instead of CGI. And the dialogue in this movie is fantastic! What a great film.
This is a film I need. I love the symbolism and, admittedly shallow, metaphor. Because it's perfect. Drug addiction really can be like a brainwashing alien. Plus, it seems like a pretty cool horror movie, too.
Especially the bit when Aylmer says your just like all the others aren't you. I don't know much about drugs but I have had an addiction to dr.pepper and I remember saying just need to take a break and I'll finally stop. And while I know a lot of drug users recover there are alot like Brian who can't fight it for long.
Kinda the point-- this *whole film* (and Aylmer and his juice) is a metaphor for drug addiction; as someone who has worked with people who were going through withdrawal in the past, I must say that (exaggeration for dramatic effect aside), they got a lot of the details correct.
ReliveTheDream are you fucking kidding? Anybody who has a sincere true blue opiate addiction can attest its torture. When you are just dependant on a small amount being dopesick is totally tolerable but if you have a huge habit like most addicts and a couple years of dependance under your belt its worse than anything
ReliveTheDream when you are being pumped with enough meds to put a normal person in a fucking stupor its different and ive been and its still horrible but you are too doped up to be crawling up the wall
i saw some pictures of the Aylmer puppet used for close ups in this film taken in 2011 he was nearly completely disintegrated time makes fools of us all
It is my head canon that this is apart of the basket case universe because that was Dwayne cameoing on that train and it looks like both him and Brian were hiding something.
A lot of the old puppets and suits were made out of perishable material, sad truth but they can survive better with care. Someone online has one of the Basket Case puppets, it looks a little beaten up but in great condition considering how old it is.
Aylmer : [to Brian] Why, Brian! Hello! How are ya? How ya doin? Brian : [Weakly] Help me... please, help me. Aylmer : Why, of course I'll help ya, Brian! You and me are pals. I'll be happy to help you... But you'll have to feed me first.
Aylmer : Part of my talent, Brian, is to spare you any unpleasantness. Brian : Yeah, but when it comes to blood in my underwear, I want to know how it got there.
@EpoaVIDS i was one of those rare few that knew about this movie before avgn reviewed it. its good to see that people know about such a good movie now.
Great film, Boy I remember back in 1989 Cinemax Midnite View I believe. Its was so weird, but good and Inventive and Original. Film was bold and daring. Also when I saw the actor from Basket Case and the infamous Case also in the train whoa heheheh. Great clip and film. Thanks.
I was watching an old show called Joe Bob Briggs Horror Hall of Fame when I saw the voice actor for the worm. He's probably dead now but he's a character.
I went to my local DVD shop to buy this movie. They didn't have it. "Okay, so can I order it?" I asked. "No" they said. Apperentley, they've stopped producing this movie. I almost started to cry :(
I've yet to see this movie (and I've beeen a BASKET CASE fan since I was 8) but I really regret not buying this the chances I had. I love the monster's voice, heh heh. The scene of him tearing his brain out of his head made me fucking cringe too.
I LOVE this movie. Apparentely 'stupid', actually very deep and rich of symbolism. I can relate... there are many addiction, when you can't stop doing something that hurts you and maybe even kills you... well I can relate. Love this movie. Greetings from Italy!
I don't mind Aylmer talking, or moving like a puppet, it adds to his charm, but what kills it is those tiny little cartoon eyes, maybe if he had just one eye that looked kinda Alien-ish or Snake-like, he look more like a talking entity instead. The mere fact that he feels so civilized to talk to reminds me not only of just Little Shop of Horrors like mentioned in the Older comments, but also kinda reminds me of Brain Gremlin from Gremlins 2. It's like it all takes place in the same universe.
