I wrote "Cool tapes" in the dust on the back window on my work van. Several people asked me who wrote it, when I say me they ask "why did you write cool tapes?" And much joy is had when I get to say "maybe it's because I like cool tapes"
Thanks for giving me a new thing to say that nobody will understand. Been quoting HSR for 17 years and nobody has understood it since middle school... in year 1.
3:11 - The perfect representation of that emotion of pensive guilt that comes with having to explain to your boyfriend that you formed a band called "Cool Tapes" because he was taking too long to return his cool shades at the store. I think all the ladies in the audience can relate to that one...
This is such a blast from the past. I went through middle school, high school, college, and most of the way through a Ph.D since seeing this and it's so memorable I can still remember "dripping yellow madness" like it was yesterday
So many quality lines in this one. Four and a half minutes of concentrated Homestar humor and dripping yellow madness. Never change, Chappies. "What in Pete Sampras is going on here?!"
So THIS is where Dripping Yellow Madness originated from. I remember he moved to our neighborhood before the 6th grade. We didn't talk much, but he was a chill dude. I haven't heard from him since High School, I wonder what he's up to these days.
@FiveByFive Woah, woah, woah; DYM was in the Navy? That explains his thesis research on ICBM development during the Cold War-the dude was the fastest writer in our History MA program. I haven’t seen him since graduation! Wonder what he’s up to these days?
@@Dyundu Wait that's where Dripping Yellow Madness came from before he joined the band? I knew him during that half year he was in Dr Teeth and the Electric Mayhem (you know, the house band on The Muppet Show). Man their songs got weird around that time. Weird even by their standards. Eventually he got kicked out of the band for sleeping with the drummer's girlfriend. I wonder what happened to that loveable weirdo and his...whatever kind of musical instrument that thing was supposed to be
They really had me going with the "Cow Lamp & Bunny Slippers: A Brief History"... I was like... oh my dang, I'm so excited to watch this. How have I never seen it!?
Watching this again makes me feel really happy, both for nostalgia and for the improvement of my English understanding. I understood the basics back when I first watched it on the website, so I didn't get some jokes, but now I can appreciate even more this short that still stands as my favorite.
“Sitting on the couch is zero amount of fun when there’s not a TV or hang glider in front of it” I love these references to “noodle incidents” where you can only wonder what happened. 😂
I heard Dripping Yellow Madness and Stan ended up moving in the same dorm in college and when they graduated they started a successful world class company called “Bubs’ Concession Stand”
It's hard to really express how great of a band name Cool Tapes is in a world with similar two-word bands like Mom Jeans, Remember Sports, American Football, etc.
My friend wrote a discord bot that stores and randomizes "Sick Song/Album/Band" Names we feed it as a running joke. These are a few of its masterpieces: -Marsupial Murder Party -Bodacious Jesus -Suicide Weiners Forever
@@SilenTHerO78614 the fake "next video" bit between the main toon and the Easter egg are *technically* new Homestar Runner content. I'll take what I can get!
@@somejerk5662 the fake loading circle and cancel button were awesome, felt very true to the original brand of hunting over the page looking for easter eggs
@@bruce-le-smith I just pressed the tab button repeatedly to highlight the different easter eggs in the videos. Perhaps against the spirit, but I was a kid with nothing better to do.
"The Dripping Yellow Madness" sounds like a killer Lovecraft tale full of cosmic horror and only the coolest of shades ("The Colour Out of Space", anyone?)!
It's so wild how in the early 2000s this sort of thing was the epitome wacky, hectic, "random" humor, and it already feels kind of tame and slow-paced compared to present-day content. It's still funny and enjoyable, that hasn't changed. It's just interesting to think how the culture of internet animations has changed around it.
eh, i'd say that the "wacky hectic random humor" of that era was actually the stuff on Newgrounds, tbh.... Homestar was always more "tame and slow-paced" and character-driven, even when compared to the other internet cartoons being produced in the same years.
Did anyone notice that while homestar is wearing the cool shades and his mouth is closed the yellow paint on them drips to the ground, but when his mouth is open, it drips in?😂 I can't get enough of the brother chaps unique style of when it comes to subtle animation gags like that!
I've definitely used the phrase "Cool Tapes," "Sorry customer, I'm closed," and "lesser or much lesser value" a lot over the years because of this video. What a good one this is.
Even though I know this was just TBC writing these, this has always felt like one of those episodes of Space Ghost Coast to Coast where one writer would write a page, then pass it over to another writer for the next, and so on.
their Lore is so heavily based on inside jokes with their friends and family that it honestly _is_ kind of like a handful of people writing each one hahah ❤
i am so so glad, that after 20+ years, the Brothers Chaps are still making me burst out laughing, especially after I hit the cancel on autoplay that is turned off.
Cool Tapes is actually a pretty good band. Like, I'm honestly surprised Marzipan's VA hasn't tried a musical career yet. Yo, Chaps Bros, Marzipan should sing more.
We've got an orange tabby cat who likes to meow at the top of his lungs when he's hungry. One of the many nicknames I've given him is "Screaming Orange Madness", and now my partner has started calling him that as well
And it was her voice, Missy Palmer, whom was responsible for helping a lot of us with the shipping debacle over the Trogdor Magicks and Mergencies Expando Deck.
@@YoshiAngemon Wait, was it a recording or did you actually get to talk to her?! Because if you did...dang, now I wish I had placed an order during that time!
I watched this thinking it was a new cartoon and spent the whole time thinking "man, they've still got the comedy writing chops" until the end of marzipan's song when my memory FINALLY got jogged by the melody
I'm super stoked you figured out how to include the easter eggs from the original by putting them after fake Up Next screens, that's super freaking clever
This was a household favorite, or maybe just a my favorite. I sang Cool Tapes all the time, also still do pretty much every time I pack a bag of grapes for a snackie
Years ago my Father was working on my room and replaced the wooden wall with drywall. It was left bare. I wrote "Cool Tapes" on it. The wall was never finished. I think it's still there.
Homestar was way ahead of his time, he's already using the term drip in relation to being cool! If he ever also used cap as lying, then he wins the internet 😂
