Something about the timing of "Strong Mad gets an early lead- and wins!" gets me every time. It's set up like there's going to be some kind of twist or bump in the road or something, but no, just immediate victory.
Bleeping out "Mike" and "Craig" came out of nowhere, and I busted a gut laughing right away. There's so much good comedic timing in these, new and old, it stuns me it's aged so well.
I love how this whole thing originated with the concept of Homestar being a hero and Strong Bad being a villain, but instead they just kinda became two equally-likeable characters with wildly different personalities that are fun to watch bounce off each other
@@nameeman1562 The lyric from Broken wings is 'Take these broken wings and learn to fly *again*', it's definitely a Blackbird reference. The point was more that it's a series of flying references for the dumb pun and progressively getting more tangential with each reference. They would've used the whole lyric if they were referencing Broken Wings.
@@coenisgreatThat's a tough one... The words are in both songs. On one hand, Blackbird seems more likely since they used the complete line, and the Broken Wings line is missing a few words... On the other hand, Mr. Mister fits the general theme established by the other bands referenced better. Given the Brothers Chaps love for 80s references, I believe the most likely explanation is they MEANT to quote Mr. Mister, and accidentally quoted The Beatles...
Voice acting is still wonderful & I love how the show must remain 4:3. I remember seeing my first Strongbad email in 4th grade, now I'm 24 haha. So happy for the occasional updates. &Hahaha loved the flash joke at the end (internally crying).
Me too! Saw my first H*R cartoon (The House that Gave Sucky Treats) in fourth grade and I'm 24 now. I know the Chaps brothers are family men now, but I hope they can keep the franchise alive!
This was a fantastic way to celebrate the 20th Anniversary. I've always wondered how that second story would have turned out. Here's to 20 more years of Homestar Runner!

I really hope there will be a 40th anniversary. Homestar Runner needs to live on.....and live on as an online cartoon, not in the greedy hands of Nickelodeon or anything like that.

I never really got that. Like, I know what "motoring" is, I think? In this context im unsure. Either way, I don't really think im understanding the line properly enough to find it funny. ☹
@@Loctorak i'm gonna overexplain this joke because it is really good the first take, "Come take these broken wings and learn to fly", while being literally accurate to describe the situation at hand, is also the first line from the chorus of Broken Wings, a 1985 power ballad by Mr Mister which is just kind of a funny coincidence and very on-brand for Homestar's late 80s/early 90s reference humor. The next take, "You've got to fly, fly to the angels!" plays of this coincidence by reworking the line a bit to reference another song lyric, this time the chorus of Fly to the Angels, another power ballad released in 1990 by Slaughter. It's a bit more of a stretch but it still kind of works for the scene in the context of the book. The last take, "You're motoring! What's your price for flight?" is what takes the whole bit over the top by reworking the line to reference the first line of the chorus of Sister Christian, yet another 1980s power ballad released by Night Ranger. This line has absolutely nothing to do with the race or the book, except that it contains the word "flight". But it's funny in kind of an ironic way because it's a much more well known song and a really forced reference. At this point most viewers are aware that the brothers chaps are goofing around, and the line lampshades the fact that these characters are just referencing old rock music for no good reason. Side note: "Motoring" in the context of the song just means "driving" or "cruising". The song is about losing youth and innocence and growing up too fast. It's a literal reference to driving a car, which is a representation of being old enough to have a driver's license, and it also metaphorically means cruising through life too quickly. In the context of this cartoon, motoring has absolutely no meaning which is part of what makes it funny.
I was introduced to Homestar Runner when I was in middle school, sometime when I was in 6th grade. Throughout the rest of middle school and all of high school, I looked forward to their weekly web cartoons, because more often than not, it brought a smile to my face or brought forth a good laugh. I was even inspired once to try putting one of Strong Bad's Flagrant System Error screens on the computers of several of my teachers on April 1st one year, and I'm wasn't prone to pranks by any stretch of the imagination. Once I got to college, though, their release schedule slowed down rather considerably. At first, it bummed me out, but considering the gold they still put to this day whenever they do post, I don't mind as much anymore. Plus, I still don't know how I passed my Computer Science classes in college, so the fact that the people responsible for one of the best parts of my adolescence could do far more than we even covered in those classes on close to a weekly basis for such a considerable period of time fills me with nothing but the utmost respect for them. But seriously, even if they only post every few months or so, I'm just happy that they're still doing it, and that they still haven't lost their touch. Thank you, and I'm looking forward to another 20 years. On a side note, I remember once talking with someone in middle school who also liked Homestar Runner, and just because the names rhymed, I mentioned what I thought at the time was just the name of a theoretical character, and boy did they get mad at me. Later on, I would be exploring the Museum section of the website, I found that such a character did indeed exist in something resembling an official capacity, but when I revealed this fact to the same person as before, their irritation didn't change all that much. At the time, I didn't get what the big deal was. But now having finally seen what Strong Glad would have actually been like...I finally understand why they got so angry.
In its heyday, H*R was not only a lot of fun, but it also helped much of our generation through some dark times. Breakups, periods of Strong Sad-esque depression, and other pubescent crap.. Now I'm grown, married, with a baby-child of my own. When something might be wrong with your kid, man... that's the worst feeling in the world. So I find myself watching these videos today, and they're still a comfort. For different reasons now, maybe, but they still have value. Thanks, TBC. Of course we miss the site the way it was- we miss LIFE the way it was back then, too. But your all-grown-up fans appreciate that you're still around, if only when we least expect it. People need to stop calling these 'the comeback' and more 'the status quo release rate of new cartoons'. We're not going to get back to one-and-a-bit-a-week shorts.
In a way, the Brothers Chaps are just being cruel by releasing these highly occasional bits and getting up the hopes of those disconnected from reality.
It's better than what we had for a while there. Nowadays it's always just a really nice surprise whenever a new one pops up. And after all this time they haven't lost the charm one bit.
You guys make contacting you impossible, but I just want to thank you for Homestarrunner. I'm pretty sure this website has changed my life and my own style of humor from a young age. Even though I'm older now, I still remember the new email when I first started watching, "the bird", and I still check every few months or so in case something new is made. And it's like a second Christmas when there is. No stronger bond can be made between two people when you both find out you have watched Homestarrunner.
This is the best of the sporadic newer toons by a mile. The last Halloween toon was so terrible that I almost didn't bother to watch this. I'm sure glad that I did.
