On our farm we have a gas engine MF 65 from the early 60's. It has a multi power shift and a posi lock rear.It also has a belly mower that I use to mow our driveway road banks. For years I used this tractor to pull heavy grain wagons home from the fields and it had plenty of power. This old tractor of yours is a gem, I hope you get her going again.

WOOOOOOOO love some vintage tractor restos! Im sure that thing will run like it was yesterday! One tip BEFORE you do anything is get some oil in the cylinders via spark plug holes. Either mystery oil/transmission fluid! Let it sit a few days before you mess with it. That will allow the pistons/rings to help loosen up and properly come back. Dont just slap a battery in it and crank it over, Im no expert but I bought, fixed, and sold over 50 motorcycles over a 4 year period and when I was running my shop and all the non runners that came in all old, neglected, and abandoned I did this before and NEVER had an issue internally. Hope that makes sense! Take care!

This is how the local tow service used to get the wrecks off his flatbed. (Ones that were going off for scrap, not the customers one that were going for repair.) Drop the chains; tllt the bed, hook her into reverse. Give her a shoefull and hit the brakes. They all come off. I'm a mechanic out here in NZ. We have those old things out here. I've worked on them years ago. They are reliable. We set one on fire . It hadn't been run for a few years and it had a birds nest on top of the motor. A guy had just bought it with a bad clutch and we had to get it going and check it over for him before we split it to do the clutch if it ran ok. I put a battery and some gas and it fired up. I left it running for a few minutes while i dragged the airline outside to pump up the tyres and a drain bucket. When i came outside the nest had fallen off the top of the motor and hooked itself onto the exhaust manifold and was blazing away merrily.. Luckily it only scorched the paint a little before i got it out with the air gun on the airline. I polished most of the scorched mark out. then it was more noticeable so i had to polish the whole hood. The things we do when we are apprentices

Spent a day or four on one of those growing up. I'm guessing the wheel was just a rusty brake. I'm going to suggest a farm grade 30 foot restoration. Clean it up, fix what needs fixing and give it driveway spray with a quart from Tractor Supply. Hopefully those rears have enough tread on them to pull ok. Even if you have to put rears on it you should still have less than $2500 in him by the time he's in fighting shape.

Interesting to see the choice to buy another project. I guess personally, I would have kept the MF 135 and let this one keep sitting. Locked wheel could be a gear with a chunk of something lodged and some pressure to slide encouraged it loose...for now. Unless it was the brake, I would anticipate a future lock-up until you find and solve the real cause. Not to sound negative, your jumping project to project and not really finishing them, well I lose interest. I like to see the finished product completed and ready to go.
@42lookc
@42lookc 4 года назад
Brakes lock up sitting. Quite often pulling them backwards will free them, as in this instance with the tilt putting backwards pressure on it.
@killersugar6816
@killersugar6816 2 года назад
@@42lookc nope, it was the wheel bearing that disintegrated and destroyed two of the planetary gears. See his update videos doing the repair. Brian Worley was spot on. It was a pretty serious repair, but probably still well worth the $1000 price for the beefy HP, live PTO, and power steering - all pretty nice upgrades for a tractor of that era.
@DPCCGM
@DPCCGM 4 года назад
Grew up on a 65 and a 50, both good tractors especially the 50. Was always 12 volt just converted from generator to alternator which is excellent for you. The power steering is a real plus too, that was an option back then. Give the tractor some dignity and get rid of that muffler and put the underslung one back that it came with. Good luck, sweet project.
@leolynchjr1021
@leolynchjr1021 4 года назад
DPCCGM , some had the underslung exhaust and others had the stack setup. Personally I would rather find the right pipe and muffler and have a stack . Especially if the rings are a little wore or something and it smokes a little. If you use something like that for raking hay or something like that the fumes can get to you after awhile ( even if you can’t see any exhaust or smoke it’s usually there). My uncle had an International 300 that he only used for raking hay and that exhaust was the only bad thing about the tractor ( and the lack of brakes) . 😂
