It’s been a while since I’ve used a cootie key (sideswiper)! It’s one of my favorite ways to key CW. So much fun. But boy was I rusty. So I apologize for the sloppiness! When I changed to 30M later in the activation, I also used the KN4YB key in single-paddle mode. I love this key as a single paddle too. 73 and thanks for joining!

I have that side swiper, added brass acorn nuts and made it a bit smoother. You lucky dog got the blue paddles. You look like you are having so much fun. Props!!!

Nice cootie. I am looking at single paddles to go with my Mountain Topper. I am having a heck of a time with the timing on its keyer. It's different from my other radios, and I end up having to send like a single paddle. I wasn't sure if I wanted cootie or single lever, and I like how easily that one can switch back and forth. That's a feature to look for. 73.

The Mountain Topper does use Iambic B all the time so if you’re used to A, it would be odd. I do love a single paddle though! 73

It's adding dits like the time window is too short for adding the dah in an R for example. So I get an L instead. If I'm quick about it, it works. It's just different from my other radios. If the end result is I need a single paddle/cootie for the Mtr, so be it. I love that radio.@@w4arb

GD Aaron! I'm studying at iambic paddle, but i want to try single paddle. Which is easier to work with? Is it difficult to switch from one to another?

Great question! Personally I find “squeeze keying” to be awkward. So even if I’m using a double paddle, I key the same way as a single paddle. I prefer a single paddle, but there aren’t many single paddle small portable key options on the market so I mostly use double paddles anyway. Cooties on the other hand are a bit different than either one, but a lot of fun too. Hope that helps & 73!

well i had you tonite on 14.038 clear as a bell - i thot u had me till sum idiot - mad cause he cudnt get on i guess held down his dit paddle for 2 minutes - then you were qrt - dang it boy - didnt u hear me at all ?

MAN!!! That was a wild pileup. I’m sure I could hear you but it was hard to pick out any calls. I hate I missed you. I was struggling! I did hear partials starting with V, I bet one was you but kept getting covered up. I recorded it though, I’m going to go back and listen again and see.

Missed you on this one Aaron. but love the Cootie. altho I am not a great user of them. I have used them in the past. still prefer the SK and my paddle. use the paddle mostly except during K3Y month in Jan use the SK the whole month for evreything. then bacfk to the paddle.
