Very cool, learning CW is a great journey. It becomes rather therapeutic and addicting 😅 Hope to work you on the air soon! Thank you & 73

A very peaceful park. I am sitting in the parking lot of the nursing home overlooking a 50-acre lake with waterskiing practice going on. My wife & her sister are giving their dad the talk about it being time for him to give up his keys. Gulp. I'd rather be here listening to CW practice.

That's quite the spread for 30m. I usually find that 30m gets me all the nearby states that the other bands jump over, even 40m.
@w4arb
@w4arb 4 месяца назад
In the early morning 30m does quite well! I’ve also had a good bit of DX contacts on 30 in the mornings. 73!

Great video and information. I was wondering how much power you ran on the little batteries and you answered it at the end. I usually run 20 watts in the field with my 891,sometimes less, occasionally more if the conditions are bad. Yes, you are right on the inefficient antennas, but they still work good enough! I use a Hustler mobile antenna on a tent stake mount with 3 or 4 short radials. It gets me out well enough that my very efficient full size dipole stays in the truck most of the time! I also hunt at home with 10, 20 or 50 watts most of the time using my K3 and all dipoles for antennas. The old Drake L7 amp only sees use for DX contests and the occasional new country! I like that you do CW on 30 meters. Not enough on that band. 73, N4DJ

Very cool, I’ve heard great things about the hustler mobile antennas, and wire antennas are great (just not always worth the time portable). 30M is my favorite band! It’s always open to somewhere.

@@w4arb Yes, I like 30. I always check the spotting page for 30 but never find that much. I will start looking earlier in the morning for you.

Really enjoying your videos Aaron, I like that you run through the setup antenna rig power etc. I run qrp portable a lot and Permanently mounted the FT891 with the ATAS in the ute. Now I kinda want another just for portable operations 😂 like I need another rig... 😅. 73 VK3ACU

Good day Aaron, I also have the BaMaKeY TP-III portable paddles. I was surprised by how well they stuck to the steel bench block. Have you ever had any problems with the paddles slipping around? 73 DE VE3IGS
@w4arb
@w4arb 4 месяца назад
Hi Lyndon, The bench block itself will move a little if you key really hard, but it’s plenty stable for me! 73!

Evening sir - One of these days the stars are going to align! It can work with other radios if you buy one of the external MFJ control units. But honestly, I’d just buy a Tarheel. They’re in the same price range and come with a control unit so they’ll work with any radio. Plus they’re better build quality!

@@w4arb im not familiar with that antenna - could i trouble you for a link -- ive been told being this far north that verticles dont work well due to the low angle to the horizon but ill have to verify that -- sure like the way it sets up quick - thanks for the help 73 dit dit
@w4arb

@brianve7jyd943 Sure! Their website is: www.tarheelantennas.com They’re really versatile antennas. If I didn’t already own the ATAS-120A, I’d buy one myself. :)
