GREAT and underrated movie. Outside of the Rocky movies, a great example of Stallone's acting ability.

Ray - Harvey Keitel. This is arguably Stallone's best role; cast against type, Stallone gained 40 pounds for the role. He received critical acclaim, and really showed the detractors his acting ability.

This movie really hurt Stallones career. It underperformed at the box office and the studios abandoned Sly. He had to bring the Rocky character back (2006) which prompted a comeback for Sly.

Cop Land hurt Sylvester’s career. He couldn’t land a decent role afterwards. No studio wanted him, he turned to the direct to vhs/dvd market. Rocky Balboa (2006) brought Sly out of the slump.

They didn't give Freddy his job. Freddy wanted to be an NYPD cop, but then he had that ear injury so he became a NJ county Sheriff on his own volition. What Ray meant is that they made his job as Sheriff easy by so many cops living in Garrison it had the reputation as being safe.

You mentioned you love dirty cops. A couple I'd recommend is one with Ray Liotta again called 'Unlawful Entry' from 1992 also starring Kurt Russell. Ironically Kurt Russell plays one in the movie 'Dark Blue' from 2002 that takes place during the '92 L.A. Riots as the background noise. '16 Blocks' starring Bruce Willis is a pretty good one as well.

Oliver Stone's JFK tells an extremely intriguing story, a true detective style story and it's a great gangster movie, too. It features Joe Pesci in arguably his most iconic role playing one of the film's main gangsters together with an incredible ensemble cast made up of more than a dozen A-list actors. And to top it off it also comes with one of John Williams' most memorable scores. It really is an unforgettable movie. It is an iconic too (one of my top ten all-time favorites) and you really should check it out whether your Patreons vote for it or not.
@JulioLeonFandinho
@JulioLeonFandinho Год назад
A "gangster" movie 😆😆 It's a conspiracy movie, and true by the way. In any case, a great movie. For something more philosophical and epic from Oliver Stone, Alexander, but the director's cut, which improves the theatrical release. And for me saying that a director's cut is better than the original release means much, I'm usually against that generally stupid practice

Such a good movie with so many notable actors. The only major flaw is Michael Rappaport, who is the same in every role. Regardless, Stallone once again proves he's a quality actor, something he rarely gets any credit for. Ray Liotta and Harvey Keitel are also as great as they usually are.

Also give a watch to Pacino in And Justice For All (1979) where he plays an idealistic lawyer who buys himself on the line and does battle with a rotten legal system. Good underrated film. Lot of great performances, but it's always been that of the late Ray Liotta that stuck with me. Really underappreciated performance as he manages to keep his character walking that tightrope between being someone you kind of like because you can see he has a good and loyal side, and someone you kind of hate because he's part of this corrupt system.

Since Joy likes the "corrupt cops" genre and you both enjoyed "The Departed", you should watch the original Hong Kong film that "The Departed" was based on. "Infernal Affairs" (2002) is an amazing movie, and in my opinion much better than the Hollywood remake.

So glad y'all did this, such an underappreciated movie! Terrific casting & an intriguing plot. (Have a suggestion since Joy said she likes "mafia themed" films; you need to watch "OSCAR" which is a mob movie & stars Stallone with a huge supporting cast of notable actors/actresses!! I think one of his best roles along with this film, really shows he has more depth than given credit for)

That's why your reactions to movies of this genre are especially good, because you like them so much, and here everyone was certainly happy to hear that you want to see more of them in the future. The best movie of this kind, which is also based on true events, has a real mobster and a character from the real event in the cast, was even directed by Robert De Niro himself, who also has a role in it. Meant is "A Bronx Tale" (1993), the film of the genre, which in my opinion - apart from "The Godfather 1-2 (1972/1974) all other movies in the shade, from Goodfellas to Scarface to Casino, Donnie Brasco, Carlito's Way and how they are all called, so I hope and certainly many others one day to see a reaction from you to this classic.
