Which mean that all the force that would've been transfered into the car, gets transferred right into your body, on top of that without a proper camera to look back, you might miss on people trying to merge which might have them spiral you out of control (though I will be honest the guy in the video not checking his side mirrors) but the importance of a back camera/back window is way more important than the side mirrors so the Tano cover being supposed to be closed, is a very huge liability
Who would you need to check whats behind you when driving if your not backing up or passing? If your looking in your review mirror constantly then your not paying attention to the road infront of you and thats distracted driving just like looking at your radio or whatever. This guy isn't going to have to pay his ticket if he just fights it in court won't even be a real fight any competent judge will through it out especially since it wasn't really hsi fault he didn't notice the cop, the cop could have used his sirens from the start and there would have been no issue.
I always check behind me here n there once I know in front of me is clear also sides it takes a split second and im back to front but im always scanning every few miles or so never kno when someone is gonna fly up on u I’m not staring behind me I’m getting a general idea of my surroundings it’s called situational awareness
@@youtubestuff683You’re supposed to check your mirrors every 5-10 seconds. It’s not a distraction, it’s being aware of your surroundings on the road. Glancing at a mirror takes literally 1 seconds, then you put your attention back to the road. It’s no where near the equivalent of using the infotainment screen.

Why would you look at your side mirror when the truck is designed to keep your attention on the screen in the middle of the car? Your speedometer, rear view mirror, gps, all your controls, basically everything are on that stupid screen. Maybe if you had an instrument cluster in front of the steering wheel like in a normal car, then you would see the side mirror in your peripheral version. All in all, it’s just a bad design.

you can probably see the car but everyone knows even the best cameras aren't gonna show flashing lights very well and depending on the frame rate they might not show up at all.

Right? I feel like I'm the only one who checks my mirrors semi frequently while driving. If I removed my rear view I'd naturally start checking the screen after looking for the regular mirror.

The Cybertruck actually originally didn’t even want side mirrors, but they were forced to put them on legally. Tesla wants you to do everything with the screen.

Dude you probably shouldn’t be driving. You can’t tell me that the rear view mirror is the reason you didn’t see the cop. I rarely use even use the rear view mirror. Your side mirrors and paying attention should be more than enough. Not to mention the tiny ass flashing light in your cluttered garage is no where near a good comparison to a cops lights behind you. You should be driving a minivan.

Most U.S. states only require a regular vehicle have atleast 2 mirrors. My first car the passenger side view mirror was busted our but it didn't matter since I had the other two.

It isn't allowed to be sold and as far as I know imported and used on public roads anywhere in Europe. Not for this reason alone but the sharp edges. Apparently there is an EU law that makes car makers have a certain minimum curve.
Teslas are one of the safest cars with all their features including lane centering self driving that can be better than many people and it’s hard to flip a Tesla because of low center gravity now I do agree they could just put a mirror with a camera like some other cars but to be fair they are trying something new and many other car companies have just done the same thing the whole time with barely any new things

That’s what I was thinking. Like is he seriously this dense? All of this would be avoided if he noticed that the cover can be opened but also closed in seconds! Lots of pickup drivers drive with exposed beds the thing will be fine with an open bed that’s what they should’ve engineered the materials to withstand.

A lot of new vehicles today have a feature where your rear view mirror is actually a screen and a normal mirror so you can see behind you. I remember the 23 tundras having that feature. They cost about 75-80k. The cyber truck definitely has that feature, being that it's what 100k?
You can tell who is a good drive and who isnt. I probably check whos behind me every 10 to 15 seconds. Youre supposed to know about your surroundings at all times.
It’s actually beats f150 in speed, acceleration tow capacity and weight capacity. But if you think the 150 is prettier that’s fine. Lots of guys buy trucks for looks over function.
@@AR-rn8oktow cap on the cyber truck is 8k or 10k depending on the package. F150 with base engine is 7500. 5.0l is 10k. And the 3.7 ecoboost with tow package is around 14 or 15k.
I work for the postal service. Some of the Mercedes metris we have with review mirrors are screens that tie into a camera. I know some Subaru has it too
It would require more cables, installation of these cables, more performance overhead to the chip and such mirror would at least add +50$ in production/development per mirror.
@@criticalevent I don't think he knows if they add that type of mirror all wire harnesses will have the option after. One of the computers gets a line of code for it that's deactivated when not present, and gets an empty fuse spot in the fuse bank. It's not like they are running 2 diffrent productions of wires and everything for trucks with some options and others without that option. Imagine the wire options if they did that with a f150. No fogs, no trailer controller, no power fold mirrors, solid rear window. Next truck has fogs, no trailer controller, power fold mirrors, solid rear window, truck after has no fogs, trailer controller, powered rear window, no power fold mirrors. Easier to make one harness for all.

I've been driving delivery vans for most of my adult life, they often do not even have rear windows. If you can't see the cop in your side mirrors, you shouldn't be driving in the first place as that indicates you don't see other traffic around you either.
Rear view mirrors are actually only meant for when you are in reverse, they aren’t meant to look behind you while you’re driving. That’s why they aren’t legally required, and there are plenty of cars where you can’t even see out of the back with them. Jeeps, delivery trucks/vans, semi trucks, super cars, sports cars, muscle cars with louvers, etc…
Excellent point They could implement a vision ML to detect flashes and alert the driver with a larger or more prominent marker in the driver line of sight. Big big big oversight
