What if I told you your anxiety, chronic fatigue and this weird sensation of feeling tired but wired are all caused by one mineral, that until now, you thought was harmless. And what if I told you that having too much of this mineral in the body - and especially in the brain - is actually a silent epidemic that affects millions without them knowing.
I know this all sounds like the introduction to some weird health conspiracy video, but please hear me out. Because this was the missing puzzle piece to all my symptoms and mental issues and has the potential to completely change your outlook on vitamins, minerals and dieting in general.
Copper toxicity, sometimes also called copper overload, is one of the most important mineral imbalances in nutrition and treating it can change your life. In this video I want to explain what copper toxicity is, its many symptoms and why it’s still under the radar of so many nutritionist and practitioners even though it affects so many people.

I just got my DHA Lab results back and have both Pyroluria and high copper levels. I’ve been under so much stress over the past five years. I’ve been bounced around so many different doctors and spent so much money on tests, doctor visits, prescriptions, and supplements. The realization that I would’ve kept right on suffering had I not stepped AWAY from doctors and done all the hardcore research I’ve done on my own is just staggering. Putting all your trust in modern medicine will set you up on a road to years of suffering and misdiagnosis.

Omg! This is so true! My daughter has severe anxiety, ADHD, and a mild mood disorder. She went on the psych med roller coaster and got worse. As I told the psychiatrists she was worse, they just blankly stared and wrote another prescription. Our only mild relief was vitamin supplementation, and wheat, sugar free diet. The "sick care" model is a business, not aimed at curing anyone.

I have had my eyes on the copper-zinc relationship for a long time. Most of my life has been filled with fatigue, brain fog and lack of energy. Adding extra zinc has been my remedy for a very long time. A few weeks ago, I tried to get copper into a blood work analysis from my doctor, but in Sweden the national agency equivalent to CDC prescribes that copper is not to be measured, because "it lacks medical value". Getting a hair analysis is apparently the only way out of this. Many years ago the results from a blood test came back. My zinc levels were borderline deficient. I told the doctor that I was taking supplements at 50-60 mg and he told me to stop immediately as I was inside the range. I asked him if it might be so, that I was inside the range just because I "overdosed". No answer. All I know is that my brain shuts down if I don't take so much zinc.

You can't get the real copper levels with tests.. my bet is that you are DEFICIENT in copper. And you could try supplementing 5mg per day, then 10mg of copper per day after a couple of weeks. With vitamin C supplement short term. While you may get relief taking zinc, taking that high amount of zinc has actually caused you harm. Supplementing zinc is great, but must be done correctly - in moderation. and i 100% bet you are copper deficient. Copper zinc ratio should be 1:1 or 1:2 Copper toxicity doesn't exist.

Serum copper tests are not that valuable. Felix also points out the difficulties of testing for copper toxicity in the video. It's great that you care about your health but seeing as Swedish health care is tax funded taking a population approach rather than an individual approach to providing health care is really the only thing that makes sense. Luckily Sweden is a capitalistic economy and googling revealed that there's private options to get blood tests that seem very reasonably priced, have you looked at those?

Felix, your content is opening many doors of possibility for me. Earlier today, I watched your *"Nutritionist Reacts To Joe Rogan 'Is Mental Illness A Vitamin Deficiency?'"* video. That led me to your *"Methylation Explained: MTHFR, Overmethylation, Undermethylation & Supplements"* video, which led me to this one. You've persuaded me that methylation issues and/or copper toxicity are likely responsible for, or at least significantly contributing to, my ongoing struggles. Given my diagnoses, and given that I've been struggling to understand, manage, cure them for my entire adult life (despite therapy and medication), and that I'm now nearing retirement age... I'm hopeful that better understanding, and addressing, one or both of these possible causes will give some much needed relief. Thanks for all you do here.

Sure, if you’re ingesting large amounts of copper while deficient on zinc, Vit A and have poor adrenal & thyroid & liver function copper is going to cause issues. But your problems isn’t copper. Copper is non toxic up to 20mg / day. But what never works is to be only taking high dose copper. As with all minerals copper needs co-factors to do you good. So yes, you would have experienced the benefits of less copper but you didn’t gain overall optimum health. You are blaming the messenger which was copper telling you that your low on other minerals so copper can’t be utilised. Increase your zinc from meat, Vit A from animal fats and stop eating carbs that damage thr liver. And support your adrenals with electrolytes and you’ll find copper isn’t a problem.

Mr Wilson makes money from his statements, that rules it out as a piece of scientific literature. Let me explain some basic biology too: If a mineral is 90% excreted then it’s not biologically possible to accumulate in tissues. Iron accumulates in tissue because it’s not excreted via the liver or kidney. There’s no biological mechanism to excrete it, phlebotomy (cracking open a vein and taking blood out) is the only option. Or if you’re a woman your monthly cycle. One book also doesn’t stand up to scientific anything. I

Another huge source of environmental copper are automotive brake pads, almost all of which use sintured (pressed) copper as a heat resitant and conductive friction material component. As brakes wear they shed fine copper dust into the air we breathe. This dust gets into everything, eventually settling on surfaces and washing into the soil when it rains, or runninging off into rivers, streams, and setting into the lakes and oceans they feed. This in turn drives exposure and accumulation of copper in marine life, stunting and even killing it. Copper is so toxic to marine life that it's used in very high concentrations in anti-fouling bottom paints for boats and ships. It's litterally scrubbed off into the water when boat bottoms are cleaned by divers. Many harbors around the world now ban bottom cleaning for this reason. It's toxcity has been long recognized, and it's being slowly phased out in both brake pads and bottom paints. It was originally used as a substitute for (much more toxic) tin in bottom paints and - get this - ASBESTOS in brake pads! So while copper is bad, it's use actually made the world LESS toxic than before! There are now much safer options. So why is copper still used at all? Because it's cheap. I subscribed immediately. On this topic of copper, though, I'm totally confused. Apparently, I have symptoms of both copper toxicity and deficiency! I suffer from anxiety, insomnia and fatigue, which would support the toxicity idea. But I also have a tiny aneurysm, lots of gray hair, and arthritis - which all indicate deficiency! Since I don't have a lot of copper sources in my diet - except for liver (which I LOVE! but don't eat frequently enough) - I feel inclined to believe that I am, in fact, copper deficient. And, no, my zinc and vitamin C intake aren't very high. What are your thoughts? Many thanks!

Everyone who has copper deficiency should look into Colloidal Copper. Copper supplements take forever to accumulate in our system. Colloidal Copper is processed immediately and what the body doesn't need, you urinate out. Interesting, I have most of symptoms mentioned here but my hair test show that Cu is on bottom limit (10.2 ug/g) , while Zn is normal (166 ug/g) . Ratio Zn/Cu is too high (16.3). Is that relevat data that I have too low Cu? BTW I starting to get gray hair quite early, somewhere at age 38. What confuse me is that I found data that for instance Wilson desease is not seen in Hair analyse, like Cu levels are usually normal in case of Wilson, so at the end I don't know what to think, all my logic tells me that I could be copper deficient, but this symtoms tells me otherwise

You’re probably better off trying to increase copper bioavailability. So magnesium, vitamin C, retinol, chromium short term (if low), selenium, improve thyroid function, etc. if still low then try to eat for the short term, high copper animal food for less toxicity.

Just like the body reacts differently to natural vitamin D vs. synthetic vitamin D, so too copper bound in a vegetable is different than drinking from unnatural copper tubing. All fruits and vegetables have "dangerous" substances if those substances are isolated...but they're not. And when you eat them, your body processes them differently. So just because vegetables have copper in them, does not mean that it affects you negatively.

Copper toxicity means low copper bioavailability. Have you gotten a hair test? I gave myself crazy stress a year ago by taking zinc while unknowingly triggering copper dumping over and over again. My copper only shows up in the hair... but the levels are enormous ~40x normal Pyrroles are elevated but ceruloplasmin/copper ratio is normal: High oxidative stress but hard to pinpoint why with a test. Been taking 100 mg Zn for the last ~4 years which has driven the levels down slowly (~20x normal). Manganese (50 mg/d) and Molybdenum (500 mcg/d) also help antagonise Cu. Over this time the eyes show a reduced greenish tinge. N.B. Splotches on face (along jawline) also indicate high copper. These too have faded. It is very hard to measure copper levels accurately. The only accurate way is hair analysis. 🙂

Very unhelpful for people to recommend taking more copper before using a hair analysis to see if Cu is elevated. Urinalysis and blood tests typically show normal levels. 🙂

This is food for thought, however the video title is a bit unfortunate since there are a million reasons why someone might have anxiety and chronic fatigue. I did have a copper IUD removed in the past because I was paranoid about this issue, but I don't think I've ever been tested... eventually I will go to a functional doctor or someone like that, and look into everything, in depth. For now I've been on a keto diet for 4 months which was a ginormous step for me after a lifetime of cr*p diet. I'm educating myself on nutrition and taking supplements. (My diet still has a lot of room for improvement...) I actually took a copper tablet today, 3 mg copper bisglycinate, to go with the zinc I'm taking. I don't know for sure whether it's the right thing to do or not, but I'm listening to my body and will keep monitoring myself and researching things. I know toxicity is a serious issue but then I've even heard people say that everyone is deficient as well.

Do you know if you’re deficient in vitamin A? Body cannot use copper without it. So it would accumulate. Your symptoms are also hypothyroid symptoms, which has a correlation with high estrogen. I don’t believe copper was your problem. I believe your detox had a systemic effect and it helped your body to detox and rebalance. Copper is chelated by glyphosate. Hard for it to accumulate.

Which crosses the blood brain barrier. This has been shown to be linked to Alzheimer's disease. Copper is not used in plumbing nowdays, replaced by plastic. In the past copper plumbing piping was normal. So water was energised as it pass3d through the copper pipes. Not so with plastic.
