Corey Dillon: This RECORD BREAKING Star was THE BEST RUNNING BACK Tom Brady EVER HAD | FPP

He’s one of the most overlooked backs of the past 30 years, a player who jumped from JuCo, then to D2, before finally landing with the Washington Huskies for the 1996 NCAA season, where in one year, he prove himself as one of the nation’s most talented running backs. His rare combination of size and speed made him intriguing, but his checkered past and short temper scared teams away. He was a first round talent, yet was drafted in the second round of the 1997 NFL Draft, but he unfortunately went to the Cincinnati Bengals. During his 7 years in Cincinnati, he broke the single game rookie rushing record, and the single game NFL rushing record, while becoming the Bengals all time leading rusher, but during that same time, he never experienced the playoffs or even had a winning season. And then as the Bengals were beginning to turn over a new leaf by bringing in Marvin Lewis, Carson Palmer, Chad Johnson and Rudi Johnson, Dillon had grown frustrated with losing and a decreased role. So at 30 years old, he would join Tom Brady and the New England Patriots, where he would put together his best career season, as one of the main reasons the Patriots were able to repeat as Super Bowl Champions in 2004. He would be a solid player for them to end his career, as he recorded 37 rushing touchdowns in three years, before his career was over after a decade. Dillon had his struggles off the field, but overall wasn’t as bad of a person or teammate as the media seemed to make him out to be, and one thing you couldn’t deny is that he was one of the most productive halfbacks to ever play the game, yet gets little recognition due to his best years being spent on some terrible Bengals teams, who rarely saw any Primetime action.

Cincinnati guy here… I was at the game when he set (the since broken) single game rushing record. It was unreal. The Bengals sucked, but, for whatever reason, they manhandled the Broncos that day. Dillon left, Dillon right, Dillon all over the place. I think Bengals attempted only 6 or 7 passes that day. The stadium was packed and that place was rockin’. What a memory!!

My 2nd all-time favorite Bengal, after Reggie Williams (Munoz is #3 😊). Got to know him personally. He was a far better person than local media tried to make him out to be. And, one of my all-time favorite runnings ever. "Beast Mode" before Marshawn Lynch came along. Was very happy when he won a Super Bowl with the Pats; the onky reason I rooted for them back then.

Rather being on Bad Bengals team to Winning Superbowl Patriots team. Goes to show you how good Corey Dillon really was in late 90's and early 2000's. And still manage to make 10,000+ rushing career yards and closer to 100 Career Rushing TDs but just fall 18 Rushing TD short. And should of been in the Hall of Fame

I am from Seattle and remember watching Corey his entire career, he was amazing even in College. He went through a lot of tough times growing up but I am glad he was able to win a super bowl with the patriots. Dillion was one of the best rb's of his era.

I really enjoy these “Forgotten Players” thing you’ve got going. So many players of the 80’s & 90’s that I can’t remember them all but seeing docs about them is pretty cool. Thanks for these👍 Corey Dillon is one of those “what if” players. Not in the sense that he never gotta chance to play he just never gotta chance to be on a decent team. I imagine what he could’ve done with a decent O-line, not playing from behind therefore getting more carries and not passing as much as well as having a good defense that didn’t get steamrolled each series. We see what he did as a 30 year old when he played for the Patriots. Imagine if he was on a team like that his entire career. We may have been talking about him as one of the all time greats.
