I don't know, Waltrip took forever to win but he had a lot more top 10 runs than LaJoie. In the 90s Waltrip was regularly finishing top 10 in Bahari and Wood Brothers equipment and finishing top 20 in points. Lajoie has 1 points finish above 29th
I think Sheldon Creed is a tier 2 driver, meaning he can compete competently for/in the playoffs, but not a championship 4 lock yet. The pressure of not winning is probably getting to him, but he's not terrible. I hope you're not implying he is a NASCAR bust because some of his second place finishes were impressive. Nobody was beating Van Gisbergen at Sonoma for example. He's better suited for the Haas ride than Deegan (who I want to succeed but is clearly not ready yet).
The one thing from stacking pennies that got my attention is Corey’s cohost stated that he saw him at Chicago during the rain delay! Cory’s cohost said “I knew you were upset about how the car was running during Chicago and also YOUR TEAM GIVING YOU THE COLD SHOULDER!” so around the time they announce Rodney was going to crew chief the 7 car his team was already not talking to Corey! 🤔That was interesting!
LaJoie didn't say it wasn't a real win. He said that they weren't a real team back then, which is correct. They were just a charter owner that fielded a Premium Motorsports car under their name.
I hope Corey gets a ride I was lucky enough to meet and get to know his dad Randy when he won back to back championships Randy has a good thing going with his seats
I’m REALLY hoping it’s JPM as growing up, he was one of my favorite drivers and to think since 2021 23XI has signed an Xgames icon of Travis Pastrana, a F1 podium driver and 24 hours of LeMan champion of Kamui Kobayashi with F1 Grand Prix winner and Indycar legend making his return in NASCAR as well as next year having MTJ run part time, it’s insane what this team has done in a short time frame just from part time drivers
Juan Pablo Montoya last race was 2014 Brickyard 400 (Indianapolis) and he finish 23rd I like when Corey LaJoie talk about We can make our plans, but the Lord determines our steps. Proverbs 16:9
Sheldon creed doesn’t win, but the dude has 9 top 5s 12 top 10s. You lose more than you win in NASCAR, plenty of teams would want a effcient driver like that
Compare Sheldon to Jimmie Johnson's career in Xfinity. Compare Sheldon to Chase Elliott's first 2 1/2 years of Cup. These days people look so much at the win column and not so much at the drivers visual skill. Jimmie got chosen by Jeff Gordon because Jeff saw him take a corner at Darlington and knew he had some talent he could work with.
Right lol Sheldon Creed is going to win ! I don’t understand the hate for Creed but the constant love for Lajoie . But hey still love Eric’s videos even if I don’t always agree with his opinion.Mmmerica!!!!’
I use to like Corey when he was beefing with Denny, then I saw signs that he's a certain type of dude that I absolutely despise, then he said that about Justin Haley's win, and that confirms it for me.
We know Corey has talent. You don't get into a modified at Martinsville for the first time and win. Hopefully he finds a ride for next year. Personally I think he would fit in very well in the truck series.
That Spire win still pisses me off cuz Kurt Busch should have won that race. They detailed one to green and Kurt pitted with weather incoming and then the next lap they put the yellow. Ugh that was so frustrating
- Going full out here - Creed stays Preece + burton to hft xfinity *B jones or allgaier picked up by spire* Eckes to open jrm seat If lajoie has backing, he goes to eckes' seat in trucks Also going to throw this one in, if herbst doesnt go to 23xi, he goes to frm (23xi seat would be all star car luke the 15/16)
I really believe his actions at pocono wrecking Kyle Busch was the final nail in his coffin. He’s a mid pack racer, which is enough to keep a ride in the cup series. Spire is probably just tired of his crap.
i’m not even a Lajoie fan but it’s been brutal reading social media’s overblown hate for the guy that came seemingly out of nowhere. i still really struggle to understand where it came from, the only explanation i’ve directly gotten from any commenters is how he “talks a big game but can’t back it up” which from the clips i’ve heard on his podcast doesn’t even really sound true. outside of “i think we’re gonna surprise some people this year”, and even then it’s not like he’s claiming to be a cup champion held back by his team. he’s clearly just being optimistic about his team and his talent, as every professional athlete should
People see him as an easy target. People like to build someone up then tear them down when they're bored and frustrated with something in their own life. They root for the underdog, then use him to get their personal frustrations out on when he magically doesn't become a 7x Cup champion overnight. They did the same to Bowman, Dibenedetto, and if Chastain doesn't make the playoffs this year they'll do the same to him.
As the comments show i think your a little aggressive with Sheldon Creed, all it takes is something like Sam mayor finally winning a race and then if he wins more everyone who said he was a bust will be arguing which cup team he should be on
I'm definitely not out on Sheldon Creed. Yes, winning is the ultimate goal, but he is in a position to win on a consistent basis, and honestly, that's all you can do. To win, nearly everything has to go exactly right, but to lose, only one thing has to go wrong. It's only a matter of time, and at 26, he's got plenty of time unless you're an idiot and jump ship simply because of the 0 in the win column. There's more to look at when grading a driver's value and potential.
I think LaJoie will be a sim driver/driver coach for a big team. He’s a likable guy and has so much experience in a next gen car that he surely can give meaningful info to teams through sim.
They've both fallen below expectations the past couple of years. Difference is Corey lost his ride, while Creed likely will get ANOTHER shot with a top Xfinity team.
NASCAR has always been super soft on guys that say God and Jesus a bunch. Idk I normally totally agree with Eric but when it comes to Corey I do not agree with him.
The sheldon take was really weak. Hes the most consistent car in the top 10. 12 out of the 20 races he finished in the top 10, 9 of them being top 5s. He is just not getting the wins. Winning is a team effort, but the driver is good. He just needs a bit more luck on his side.
Lets not forget when everyone says LaJoie's issue is equipment but always ignores when he got to run the 9 for Hendrick Motorsports and was outrun by his own 7 car.
@@owen_som Top teams often test new equipment in races that don't really matter. Fact is he was in HMS equipment and didn't perform well. All a shifter has to do is shift the gear. It's not like he was missing shifts because of it.
Wasn’t it last year after signing an extension when lajoie said he turned down multiple offers from other teams to stick with spire to keep building their brand? Where are those teams now? I don’t believe a less than average season in mediocre equipment would scare away the “multiple” teams that were willing to sign Corey last year. I could be totally wrong and I know he hasn’t been a free agent for more than a few days but it is just my opinion.
honestly feel very bad for corey. Yeah, he had his problems on track. Yeah, he got into it with my favorite driver (Kyle Busch). But, the dude is talented, and he helped build up spire. He is also a very nice guy, and treated all the fans very well. I really hope he finds a ride somewhere.
Nobody can blame a team for taking on a driver that shows up with cash, but that also tells me there are a lot of teams out there that have issues in the marketing and sales department that lacks the contacts, skillset or ability to sell "advertising" on the side of their cars. And that is a team and team owner issue, not a driver issue.
Teams these days are going to have to be more creative and innovative as far as getting sponsorship. It's more about offering a service for the company than just collecting a check to plaster a logo on a car and hauler.
Eric I’m surprised this took this long to happen. Tell me this what full time racing team(spire) loans their driver to another full time racing team(Hendricks) for a race? I have still never understood it.. I get some people say it was a shot to prove himself but I see it as the writing on the wall from last year.
Hahaha be funny if Justin Haley went on a podcast like the Dale Jr Download again or Actions Detrimental and was like “yeah this year has been a blast for me you know most weeks finishing in the top 15 and top 10 in RWR equipment is awesome. But the way I got to say that is still higher than Corey LaJoie most weeks lol”
You should add 20 yr old Canadian kid Treyten Lapcevich to your up and coming list of drivers. Used to watch Jeff Lapcevich race Ron ( the Pearl) Pearn in Southern Ontario short tracks at Delaware and Flamboro . (Think Cole Pearn. ) late 70’s early 80’s if my memory serves me.
He might not of driven for a top tier team! Buuutt!!! He did get a chance in the 9 car! He could driven that car the entire time chase was out. Instead he hits the wall in practice, qualifying, and during the race at WWT. The following week Hendricks went with another driver. All he had to do was finish the race in a clean car with a decent race. Instead the guy still finished 30th??? I think it was. IN A TOP TIER CAR!
8:55 I don’t think Sheldon Creed has much funding behind him, unless it’s an off the car sponsor. In trucks most of his races were ran with Chevy as the sponsor and at Childress his races were ran with Whelen. Friends of Jocelyn might be from him but I don’t think it is because they are sponsoring other JGR cars too.
Hocevar and smith > jajoie. No wins in top 3 series, 0 top 10s on non drafting track, and even got a chance is top equipment and still sucked. I dont have anything against corey he seems like a nice guy but the stats dont lie hes been a bottom 15 driver most of his career.
Hass Factory Team predictions. Ryan Preece and Corey Lajoie. Both of them could win in those car if they keep everything they had this year with the teams they could very well contain for a win and have a deep playoff run
show the man some respect. Multi-time Indy 500 winner, F1 Grand Prix winner, and NASCAR Cup winner, and probably the last guy who's ever gonna come close to doing all three, let alone being successful in all three.
I have heard that Hailie Deegan is also a candidate for one of those Haas seats and would believe that over Creed or Preece going into one of them however it wouldn't surprise me if Preece landed that #00 seat and I also think Deegan gets the #98
I hope Preece ends up in Hass Xfinity or a cup ride. Seeing as how he did about as well in cup as Cole Custer, there’s a good shot he does just as well in Xfinity as Custer too.
Sure Sheldon Creed didn't win in a Richard Childress car - But then again neither has the great and powerful Kyle Busch. Maybe the Drivers aren't the issue.
I think based on Joe Custer’s own comments recently it might be Hailie Deegan in one of the Haas Xfinity cars. Not sure that it should be, just reminding you what he said
The name I keep hearing is Deegan to Haas. God I hope not. When she was in good equipment in trucks her last year she didn't improve. I don't like Creed but like you said he has funding.
Lajoie wrote a letter to Rick Hendrick years ago for the 48, I always wondered why he never got a chance for having strong faith, it's because it's a business, there are better drivers unfortunately. I like Cory I don't think he'll ever get a decent quality ride. Keep up the podcast brother
