If you do plan on upgrading the intake I would suggest also making sure you have a Cobb Access port so you can remap your car, and also install the High Pressure Fuel Pump Internals. More air means you need more fuel. A new map will provide that for your car so everything runs smooth. May not be much of an issue if you plan on running just an intake, but anything further you will need to return with the ms3. The Cobb AP comes with a few off the shelf tunes that will get you going.

Great tutorial, I broke the plastic nipple on the boost control solenoid, glued it back on, but now it seems like I'm not hitting full boost, would an air leak on that nipple cause the car to not hit full boost?

Yep. I have had multiple people do the same thing and the end result is always replacing it. You can always upgrade to a MAC valve and get even better boost control. That is what I did.

Yo I cannot stop my larger hose that goes from the turbo inlet from folding/kinking. Any tips? I just don't want the hose constricted. I tried to go underneath the electrical wires but it keeps crushing it. Any tips?

Is it too long? I am running aftermarket hoses, but I had to trim my recirculation line because it was slightly too long. If it is the coupler going to the MAF, rotate it until it sits properly.

From the stock turbo inlet pipe, where it bolts to the head. You need to swap that over to the new one.

It is pretty similar. Same engine, you may have to move some different things around on the Speed 6 through.

Hi, great video! Do you know any info on the hks intakes? From what i gathered there doesnt seem to be a recirc pathway on the TIP. So there's no recirc from the bpv to the intake?

I don't know much on the HKS intakes. I would check again, recirc is a mandatory setup since its a MAF system. I wouldn't advise running an intake that doesn't have the recirc tube on this engine.

BOV shouldn't get in the way, it is on the TMIC and there is clearance. Yep it will fit a 3 MPS.

With a Gen 1, you can add an intake without too much trouble, but High Pressure Fuel Pump Internals (HPFP) should be at the top of your list if you are going to mod this platform. I tell everyone to replace the HPFP first, as the fuel pump can keep up with the mods that get added later.

You can do the intake before HPFP, as long as the MAF housing is the same as stock.

I'm guessing that you can re-use the stock silicone tubing from the boost solenoid? Bought one of these second hand but it didn't have the tubing with it.

Yep you can reuse it. If that is a stock boost solenoid be careful because the nipple on those are notorious for breaking when removing the hose.

Yeah. Change it all at the same time, also you can replace any vacuum lines when you do the ebc.

It is the same engine, so it *should*, but it is going to come down to how tight Mazda placed things around it (I don't know, I have never worked on a CX7). I would email Corksport and ask them.

That happens a lot. You can try super glue/epoxy to try and reattach it. If that doesn't work replace it, I am running a 3 port set in bleed mode.

Five Five Garage I was thinkin about it. But i see you are using JBR. All of my friends are using GS (grim speed) but they use it on evo. But is there really a difference between them or just by preference?

The GS and the JBR use the same MAC valve. It is just a preference. Can't go wrong with either one. I think it is a great upgrade, because 1) the MAC valve is a better design (everything is metal, no plastic to break) 2) The stock EBC has been known to have issues above stock psi levels 3) you future proof your setup, if you want to go bigger turbo later, you already have an EBC that can be setup for 3 port.

My son has an 08 Mazdaspeed3. He and I want to make his first mod an intake. From the research I've done, this intake because of the air straightener will not throw a code. However, does this intake along with the TIP require a tune?

No, this intake doesn't require a tune.

Do you have any concerns with the CorkSport intake being aluminum (good conductor of heat) being so close to the engine with any heat soak as oppose to the stock plastic piece (not as good a conductor)? I wrapped my intake (Focus ST) with reflect Heat Tape.

I am. It is one of those things that I have been thinking about, for awhile now I have been considering changing out the aluminum inlet pipe with one made of silicone. I have also contemplated wrapping it as well. I decided that some time this summer I would test the aluminum inlet pipe vs a silicone pipe and watch my BAT/IAT and see what the difference is.

It doesn't matter if it's aluminum.... the turbo will super heat the air with aluminum or silicone. The intercooler will cool it down.

Ik im late to the party but! all I have is an intake on my speed 3, what map should I use for the AP? Did you stay with Stage 0 after installing it?

What size is the intake? If it is 2.5 and stock MAF size you can run without one. I would recommend a base tune from a tuner. OTS work, but are not the greatest.

Since this was recorded, I decided to step up to a full 3" HTP intake. There are actually some flow gains just from switching to the 3" and no other modifications on my setup. I am planning on going with a bigger turbo and the 2.5" at that point becomes a bottleneck.

Did you get any sort of whistle with the intake? Installed mine and has an annoying whistle around 3000 rpms

3000 rpm? That is when the K04 begins to spool, you are hearing the turbo now.

Are you on the stock bypass valve? I would check and make sure its not leaking.

There is a clear gain to going with the 3" setup (on a stock KO4 it is a +10 HP over a 'stock' sized intake, increased air flow and less restriction), but that comes with its own set of problems that you have to solve (will not fit with the stock battery box, requires a tune to use). The stage 2 will be enough to get you into the 300 - 340 HP range. Anything over that is going to require a bigger turbo and the larger intake. If you want to future proof your setup I would go for the 3" from the start and get a battery box and 51R battery.

It is a 2.5" intake, and the MAF housing is the same diameter as stock, so you can switch and not need a tune (flow numbers at the MAF will be close to stock).

It can, it is more about opening up the bottleneck of air flow. You will see some small gains just from the intake, but if you were to pair this up with a downpipe and tune, you will see better results.

Can't run cold air intake with the oil catch can setup I decided to use, where the air filter would sit is exactly where the catch can goes. CAI does not do much of anything on a Turbo car, the air going into the Turbo is going to be heated as its compressed, use the CAI money on a better intercooler instead.

No, the sound you heard is the upgraded HPFP internals, the VVT issue has a different sound.

2.5". If I remember correctly a 3" will require a MAF recalibration since it will be larger than the stock 67mm.
