Maybe he doesn't want 'em. Maybe he wants to be a character actor, who pops in for a few days, does his stuff, and heads down the road. That's where the career is. Fame is fleeting. Though he did do a Fletch a while back. Not a great movie, but he was a great Fletch.
Love this genre of surreal, overly bureaucratic office job employee finding out secrets about the corporation they work for. Stanley Parable, Control, and Severance all have this aesthetic and I can't get enough of it.
I worked at an Am-Law 100 law firm in Dallas, and a couple of the other paralegals and I found a room like this with a basketball Pop-A-Shot arcade game in there. The room was abandoned, and was kind of in a nook where people wouldn't naturally walk past it. Every single day for a year, from 2:45pm-3:00pm we would meet down there for a Pop-A-Shot tournament. This film feels exactly like that.
I really connected with your story. Way back in college, my university forgot to budget for the landscaping on a new residence hall. So, our residents director came with up a plan to "make up the difference" with a student crew (versus expensive pros) for the regularly scheduled Summer dorm paint/refresh - I was selected as a 'foreman'. It was hard and hot work as, no students in the halls, then no high aircon bills either. By the end of the second week, we had organically instituted a "Water Break Bowling Tournament" consisting of masking paper rolls as the pins and densely packed used tape 'bowling balls'. Our long hallway "lanes" were twice the length of traditional alley with natural bumpers (floor molding) and gutters (door entries). One time, a cleaning lady magically appeared out of a room and didn't make it quite to the end stairwell before a bowl hit her ankle - she never complained - just limped the rest of the way without looking back. 😂 The next building had a 4-story glass breezeway where one day, while waiting for everyone to get back from lunch, one crew member turned over a few empty 5 gallon plastic buckets (bongos) where we had the most amazing pre-STOMP exhibition for all the janitors and resident assistants. One of the best jobs I ever had and didn't pay anything really.
This is the story of a man named Stanley. Stanley worked for a company in a big building where he was Employee #427. Employee #427's job was simple: he sat at his desk in Room 427 and he pushed buttons on a keyboard. Orders came to him through a monitor on his desk telling him what buttons to push, how long to push them, and in what order. This is what Employee #427 did every day of every month of every year, and although others may have considered it soul rending, Stanley relished every moment that the orders came in, as though he had been made exactly for this job. And Stanley was happy.
Stanley was molested by 6 adult men in the break room, including two managing directors and the CEO. Stanleys whimsical little smile would forever disappear as he returned sobbing to room 427. Orders came in same as usual, but now Stanley was acutely aware of where those orders came from. Stanley was trapped,
Whoever made this trailer did an EXCELLENT job -how atrange and exrremely intriguing! It really looks like it will be very well done and a lot of fun; Hamm is clearly killing it in this role.
I agree that it's an entertaining trailer, but I have to say it didn't leave me curious to see the movie. I feels like the trailer revealed 2/3 of the plot and I''m not sure I want to pay to see the last third.
They totally nailed the pacing, suspense, off beat humor, and quirky characters in this trailer. I really, really hope the film lives up to the trailer.
I absolutely have to see this movie! It seems it's Sarah Gadon like in Enemy again, and it all seem as that kind of a movie. Great cinematography I would say, and this leading guy I've never seen... Seems like a perfect cast. I have to see this!!!
This looks very fresh and very different. Gives me a sort of Severance crossed with Being John Malkovich kinda vibe. I'm in. I also love that the trailer draws you in but doesn't show you the ENTIRE movie.
Jon Hamm loves to take on quirky roles. He often was in small sketches at SNL without hosting. I love it when character actors do their real love of work in smaller quirkier roles and films.
@@25thedavenope but is based off a book so still not original lol Voyage of the Demeter is a real new idea. The whole movie is based off of a page and a half of the original Dracula novel.
@@ourkidof91 Wikipedia. Hamm is also known for his leading film roles in Stolen (2010), Million Dollar Arm (2014), Keeping Up with the Joneses (2016), Beirut (2018),[7] and Confess, Fletch (2022)
Took the corner office. Immediately takes on the persona/confidence of a corner office man. I can't wait to see the critic reviews for this movie. Seems to be some deeper themes here. Love it.
Fantastic! A movie with Dani Pudi, who on Community does an impression of Don Draper, played by Jon Hamm. Full circle! Maybe the corner office is in the Dreamatorium.
What we really need is a sci-fi-action-buddy-comedy starring Dani Pudi and Childish Gambino, which then morphs into the ultimate Community episode. It's not too much to ask. It's what the people want!
it'd be too much.. tho it would've been essentially the story of Marvel's Wandavision. Where disillusion and other forces led her to lose her memory and live in a simulated 1960's television show style world only to eventually learn it was all an illusion. so it wouldve been interesting if they created the cinematic concept years before marvel did but that sort of far-fetched concept is much better suited to the Marvel world rather than AMC.
If I have a nickel for every time Jon Hamm took a role that revolved around him in a beautiful and spacious mid-century office I'd have two nickels which isn't a lot but it is a weird coincidence
I'm not sure you have any clue what the word coincidence means. Maybe Hamm just has a look that fits that athestic? That would be the exact opposite of a coincidence.
At the 3/4 climactic scene, he finds that a character played by John Malkovich is pulling the strings of the whole endeavor. And also, Robert DeNiro has a cameo reprising his role as Harry Tuttle from Brazil. It's gonna hit all the right notes for fans of dystopian office-based dark comedy.
This is 100% a dramatic parralel universe version of The Office. John Hamm is Michael Scott and so on. This secret room is like the room Michael finds to party in
God, people complain about this all the time... there are a crazy amount of original indie movies that come out every year. Covid slowed some shit down, but this "it's just sequels and superhero movies!" bullshit is just wrong.
Anyone else notice how similar the fashion of "the room" is to the style of the offices in Mad Men? That sleek 60s cool vibe, which ultimately gives him the feeling of euphoria, identity and productivity. Everyone is talking about a connection to the office, but to me, it's as if he's really don draper in some parallel universe where he was a loser, and then suddenly regains a bit of who he really is when he's in the new office.
Abed Nadir in a movie with Don Draper? And now the circle is complete. “I don’t think we’re allowed to smoke in here.” “Well, then you picked the wrong outfit, didn’t you?”
Really appreciate Jon Hamm's interesting and varied project choices. He could have gone for boring Dirk Squarejaw kind of roles but is so much more interesting than that. Can't wait to see this film.
