Thank you for making this so educational. I always enjoy stopping and ready plaques and learning more about where I am and what happened there.

We learned so much on this walk, even though it is a town close to where we grew up! This channel is teaching us so much about Cornwall in general and taking us to places we have overlooked - we love it and I hope you will too! Sarah :)

Interesting commentary on a fascinating place. You may have introduced a historical inaccuracy, which is easily done when talking of Arwenack and the Killigrew family. The last of a line of six John Killigrews died in 1633, before the Civil War. His younger brother Sir Peter Killigrew inherited Arwenack and supported the Royalists during the siege of Pendennis Castle in 1646. His support for the Royalists during the Civil War is said to have caused the (partial) destruction of Arwenack House, most probably by the Parliamentarians before or during their 5-month siege of Pendennis Castle. Finding out exactly what happened 370 something years ago is not easy, but the deceased Sir John did not burn it down, it is safe to say I think.

Interesting walk and commentary. Perhaps a little historical inaccuracy (easily done!). The last of a line of 6 Sir John Killigrews of Arwenack died in 1633. The manor house was partly destroyed by the time the Parliamentary army occupied Arwenack during their siege of Pendennis Castle in 1646, when Sir Peter Killigrew (younger brother of Sir John) was the incumbent. Exactly when the manor house was partly destroyed I'm not sure but it was not by Sir John who was long deceased.

Why does this feel like a documentary on Falmouth in the Geography class of '98?

Dumb question whats a quay?
@CornishWalkingTrails
@CornishWalkingTrails 6 лет назад
OK, a quay is somewhere that boats used to moor up to unload cargo, usually historical and now replaced with larger, more modern wharf/docks. This walk plotted the development of the quays and harbours from the 1500s as the town grew. Hope that helps! Sarah :)
