I was quoted £200 to get this fixed. I saw this video and ordered the parts for £14 on Amazon. I fixed it today and everything works fine thanks to you! You’re a god send! Thank you so much!
Thank you very much, i broke the axis of the barrel, and then i soldered it with nural21. At the box of the left side, also weakened the spring that revs back from ignition to avoid it breaks again. . I hope it last long time. A beer for you from Spain
Dude this vid has just totally saved me hundreds and hundreds of pounds with a knackered and broken ignition barrel resulting in the ignition being permanently on in my combo van. Power to you and many thanks for posting. Perhaps consider wearing trousers in the future!? Only joking once again cool stuff.!
Hi Christopher I think I have the same problem as you did my ignition barrell is turning all the way around but its not starting the engine do I just need to replace the barrel or the plastic ignition on the left side? My ignition lights are also on permanently vauxhall combo TIA
@@lpatterson5005 Jeez sorry not to have seen this before. I would think that the long pin on the barrel has sheared that was the problem with mine. I thought it was a huge huge problem but turned out to be a 40 quid fix from Amazon with the obvious need to love that transponder in your key. Hope you got it sorted as easily. Take care.
thanks...i too broke the ignition cylinder tip....following ur instruction I could remove the ignition cylinder. In my meriva, I need to replace the key groove too from old to new once because old key has paired immobiliser chip in it.
A rare video, showing how it's really done. Not just how I (mostly wrongly ) did it. For those driving on the right side of the road (and not on the wrong, left, side), the right-side stick, wipers, must be taken off, to have access to the hole withing which must the lever be pushed. Also, the key must be in a certain middle position for the lock to come out. And later also for it to come in. Thanks, I would never have found the hole and know I must push the lever inside it.
I've got a Corsa C, SXI 1200, year 2001. Think my spindle broke today. Couldn't get the engine to switch off! I was low on petrol and it stopped eventually. Breakdown guy came out and said the coil pack was very hot so hoping that hasn't burnt out because we couldn't get the engine to stop. Even tried disconnecting the battery - the engine still kept running. Now trying to source a barrel and possibly switch and coil pack. Your video is very good. Thank you. This lady driver is grateful for it :)
You're welcome.... I hope you get it sorted ... To stop the engine you could have put it in gear, put your foot on the brake and slowly let out the clutch,. This would have stalled the engine. Then disconnect the battery until the switch was sorted. No harm done......Of course hind sight is wonderful. Let us know how you get on. Good luck with the repair.
Son just got the barrel out. It was broken about 1/4 down the spring so a bit of improvisation, much wiggling and cursing, we got the broken part out of the switch :) Now need to get a new barrel and hopefully car will be back on the road in a few days :) Son says thank you for the very informative video. We had it on my mobile phone and followed your instructions step by step :)
Followed your instructions. New barrel now fitted. Only problem is now passenger door and fuel cap won't open. Took transponder out of old key and put it in new key. Car starts and runs fine. Any idea why I can't open the passenger door and fuel cap? Always had to open the doors manually as the buttons on the old key didn't work.
Hi....Thanks....It was very HELPFUL.... Thank you very much.....(With your post, it was done less than 7 minutes). NB : We have spent 2h 39m without any headway....
Hi Sheller, please, when the mine of barrel is broken, and rotate the key in the second position, turn it self back in first position ? And, in first position, do the lights work ?
Thans for the video my mom has a Opel Tigra twin top and if you put it op 3 it stay there and if you take the key out the dash is still on is this the same problem as u
The rod that turns the ignition switch on the back of the lock, snapped. Its common. Went to a breakers yard picked up a Barrel and the key. (you need the key as well, and it has to be the same type of key as the one you have) Withdrew the lock from the barrel and swapped the pins from my old lock into the one I had just got. No need to have anything programmed. Disconnect your battery first.
Afternoon. Could this part cause my astravan not to start? All I get is 1 click when I turn the ignition?! It is not the battery and I doubt the starter motor as when that goes it is multiple clicks when turning over the ignition?! Please help
I can’t see the brass piece that needs to be pushed to reset it! I’m so close to fixing it I just can’t seem to find anything to push down, please help!!
Hi Sheller, I write again. What problem had the plastic part you changed ? (min 3.15) I have this problem : When I rotate key in 2 position to start engine, the starter doesn't receive power. No sounds, nothing happens. Maybe is this part defective ?
+James Ward sorry James, I see what you mean. it was an intermittent fault which I could not track down to any other component, ( Starter motor, earth, live switch wire, battery connections, etc.) and so it was logical to just replace the switch, which was an easy cheap fix. it cost e5.50 on ebay. It sorted out the problem.
I have a corsa sxi 2003 I went to put my key in the ignition and nothing all the lights and radio and Heater work and it also starts fine on a bump start. I've charged the battery that's fine. Can anyone recommend what the issue is before I think about undertaking this task? Just want advice please. Thanks when I turn the key there's no click there's literally nothing
hi guys I need help here ave got a Carsa 1.4 utility when I switch da key on noting Hpns bt da bettry is fyn lyts wrkg radio bt it not switching on on da Dash nd not starting
Very useful video. My only problem is that I can't disconnect the barrel. When I insert the small screw driver, nothing gives way. I live on the coast so I'm not sure if it is corrosion. Should I drill it out or what are my other options?
Del mismo modo, introducir el destornillador, simplemente no se ajusta a mucha presión, y por lo tanto no salga del barril. Una persona con un caso tal, podría solucionarlo?
hey guys i have a 2006 vauxhall corsa 1.2. when the ignition is off the radio and mfd randomly turn on. what could be the cause of this problem. should i goahead and replace the ignition switch? please help?
Usman Rabbani The radio is supplied by a constant live, regardless of the ignition switch. If the radio turns on while the key is not in the ignition, this would point to a problem with the radio itself.
