Here is my cost I live in Piedra de Agua in Merida. I have a wife and a son. Rent 184.00. food for one month 369.00. internet 28.00 phone 46.00 a month (a normal phone here is around 20.00 I have a fancy phone). water for 2 month 5.00 and lights 15 for one month. gas 40.00 for 6 months and the trash is 40.00 for 12 months. Drinking water 5.00 a month I hope this helps PS my haircut is 5.25
I live in a small town on the Pacific coast in the state of Oaxaca. My apartment is a beautiful studio with a loft, so it really is more of a one bedroom. It comes with a full size swimming pool and is an easy twelve minute walk to a beautiful beach and another easy walk to a nice grocery store, liquor store and medical centre. My TOTAL expenses each month, including rent, utilities, internet, cell phone and even public IMSS health insurance comes to $427 USD. My only other expenses is food which averages approx. $400 USD a month. So for $827 USD per month I can live a very nice life in Mexico.
My costs in Mexico City: my rent (which includes power, water, gas, and internet) is $290 a month for a furnished mini-departmento. Transport on the Metro/Metrobus is about $25 USD per month on a reloadable card. Phone with Telcel is $10 a month. Groceries from Walmart and Chedraui comes out to $230. Medical costs? Medicine per month averages $50 per month for medicine that would cost $300 in the US. I see one of two specialists each month for $85 or $100 and they’re in one of the hoity-toity districts of CDMX. This is on a monthly Social Security income of $1354 a month
How did you manage to haggle for that price, can you give me tips? I speak Spanish fluently, but even with my costs Rican accent, they can still tell I am not Mexican. Will you please tell me how to arrive at that price. I am a woman so maybe it is harder for me but I try my best to get great prices and often do better than almost everyone else but I have never gotten your price except maybe at a 24 he hotel which was a nightmare. Lol!
@@BEE-ig5ru what I had to do honestly was begin renting the place as an Airbnb. After getting residency I messaged the owner telling her that I wanted to continue renting the traditional way, which of course is cheaper than Airbnb.
I don't think another Jose will be coming along anytime soon. I've been waiting for some one with his background, savy, personality and excellent presentation skills for 15 years! I think it's his Cuban/American influences - and just over all savy, and warmth of personality, that makes him unique. I just hope some Multi-National Corporation doesn't pick him up and put him on their management team for a while - so we can still enjoy him? I can honestly tell you've I've never meet even a "Chicano" in the last 40 years, that can come close to him.
The one thing I can contribute which I think is very important, is to seriously budget your food expense because it's so easy to go over your monthly budget with street food everywhere. I'm speaking for Mexico City. You can blow your entire monthly budget in one week in CDMX. Too much food/snacks everywhere you walk😂 I have done this numerous times so I know! lol
I have watched you for years. Mexico seems to have mellowed you I was watching when you rode your bike every where. I'm so glad you are doing well. I enjoy you more now ❤
Henry the XXXVIII lmao!!! José, you're the best therapist I ever had. I feel like I am back in the late seventies with the latino kids on my block. I consider you a friend, a kindred spirit. You are awesome! Thanks for the content and being the only real person I have found on RU-vid.
Thanks for sharing this information... it's very encouraging. I would say there is a LEARNING curve as I have only been here for 3 days this visit... I went to the regular store and also a Walmart where I still spent quite a lot of money, but I would say it was about 1/3 of the price of the USA I see how thoughtful the Mexican's are in choosing where and how to eat out as well. Four of us adults went to a restaurant for a family style meal we all stuffed ourselves and had drinks, some had sodas some had beer... but the total meal in a relaxed environment WITH live music was only $18 including some take outs such as extra salsa and chips and a pound of handmade tortillas.... One person would be lucky to find that for a single meal in my town.
I really appreciate your hard work and thinking of moving to your town. I'm a 72 year old man who is very sick with Gallbladder stones can't eat lost over 100 lbs in 3 months and my government won't cover my expenses. So I trying to heal myself and when I do I'm heading to your home town unless you tell me different. I have more than enough from SS to live very comfortably in Mexico I speak the language but I can't read it very will. My best wishes to you and your family. Mr ROSENDO DELEON
Do it, Mr. DeLeon. You won't regret it. I find the ers much better anywhere else in the world and they spend as much time as you need. I hear in the us appointments are now 5-15 minutes- making medicine a capitalist venture is sociopathic.
Hey Sr. Rosendo - when in Merida go to a good Physical Rehab Agency and get them to give you "Ultra Sound Treatments" that can dissolve those Gall Stones. Probably cost no more than $400 - 500 pesos per visit - depending on town. AND, unlike in USA - just call and go without having to be referred and pay for Doctors visits. Just take any X-Rays and Lab Reports with you for them to examine. Top PTs have even proven to me they can see things in an X-Ray that Radiologist don't see or report!!! I suggest, that you don't wait and buy "Eat Right 4 Your Blood Type by Dr. Peter J. D'Adamo a Naturalist Doctor - so you get a head start. You can get that in English or Spanish.
Great video! I arrived in Merida Saturday. Was surprised how some basic costs have went up even since April when I was here. The marathon yesterday made it hard to get some coffee. LOL
Correct but you DO NOT need to meet financial requirements anymore to obtain residency. That is only one of the ways one can qualify. @@JoseArteagaTravels I just watched this one again... Sometimes I need to think on something a little longer to really get the feel of what this topic is really about! Sure a lot of different ways to live! In the end we come into the World naked and Leave Naked... so it's what we do in the middle of life that really matters. Thanks for sharing your life with all of us!
i watch yours it is real ...so many videos here ..talk about costs .in mexico ...they show it cost as much or more than here .....maybe for american life style in mexico ..but you right about costs living like a local ....living like a local is my plan ...if i want to spend spend i will stay in U.S.
Just out of curiosity, Id love to hear the details about a "rich Mexican family". What is the income of the upper class Mexcian family? Where do they live and what and how much do they pay/ha Here in Minnesota/USA: Hamburger $4.99/lb; Steak $8.99 - $10.99 lb; Chicken - Breast meat - $3.99 - $4.99.
I love your videos Jose but I think you understate costs a bit sometimes. I was in Merida for over a month in Nov last year, albeit in a fairly central location (the barrio of Santiago). A haircut in a normal clean-looking neighbourhood barber shop cost more like 150-200 at least, not 5 dollars. And 5 dollars (at the time around 100 pesos) would have maybe bought you one basic meal in a fonda or 3-4 tacos, but certainly not any more than that.
I made a whole video with my favorite barber in Merida who is in El Centro by Paseo Montejo and his price is 120 pesos which is 7 USD at todays exchange rate or just 5 USD when the exchange rate was 1-20 Here is a link to that video ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-CkMxyL8WIrA.htmlsi=aIeDXGqgBD9C7Vsa
Saludos!
Is the cost to be able to move there goin up? I wana move September 2024 but people are saying Mexico isn’t giving long stays they want u to get citizenship and they’d goin up in price
I've done extensive research through a few different local mexican apartment rental websites, and I haven't been able to find anything even remotely close to 250 a month even for a studio in Merida. I'm not saying it doesn't exist, but these estimates are pretty unrealistic for the average foreginer coming to Merida that doesn't speak Spanish or have a mexican wife to get the non-gringo priced deals. Most folks coming here from the usa and Canada don't want to have lizard and roach visitors every night, so they will probably opt for the "nicer" areas. If you want something relatively modern and semi comfortable you will be paying at least 800 a month in Merida in 2023 unfortunately. Could you get lucky and find something cheaper? Sure, but in general I'd say that is a realistic median price for a modern pad for somebody who doesn't want to downgrade their living standards substantially, but to each their own!
I have made many videos on this topic before, and you said it. 250 USD for rent will not get you the fancy place you might be thinking. In order to live on a budget one must also live a frugal life. This is not for everyone. There are tons of people that would do anything to have a place with a few lizards and bugs they can call their own for that price, but plenty of people would be caught dead living a humble and quiet life. Comfort is relative and you are right most people can not hack it in Mexico due to this simple fact. That is why I keep telling people if you want to keep living your fancy Starbucks lifestyle you are probably better off staying at home. But if you just want a roof over your head and can make your own coffee you can live out here on a very modest budget. I know plenty of Americans/Canadians living for under 1,000 USD a month some even for around $500...... While i know others that are spending more in Mexico than they did back home. Everyone is different and used to a certain standard. Again I live with my wife and dog extremely comfortable for around $1,000 a month and my wife is always complaining i spend too much..... I know other couples where that $1,000 isnt enough for the week. But in the end as you already said, to each their own! thanks again for sharing your very real experience! Saludos!

@@JoseArteagaTravels Valoró mucho su experiencia , creo que muchos latinos que viven en Estados Unidos pueden servirse de su experiencia actualizada en Merida , Saludos
You should try looking elsewhere I know for a fact there is more affordable housing. I sincerely doubt that most Mexicans in your area that work regular jobs can afford such a high rent. You should see what is availble in the Mexican neighborhoods.
@@JoseArteagaTravels i live on the colonial side west of the federal highway. Its a middle class mexican condo complex. Im sure most locals have a hard time with prices so high here.
Rent? U can buy a house for under $8000 and the taxes per year are like $12. I think ur prices are high cus ur speaking more of tourist areas , food u should be under $100 lk most ppl ppl in Mexico don't over eat lk Americans. Most Mexicans working in factories only make $200 per month not a wife and husband both bringing in $400 a month for them and kids that's what most ppl have to pay everything in the household for a month
Jose, you're "z" best! Lol ty so much for your hard work! Just wondering if you could elaborate on the transition for the kids..? I have a 6 and 7 yr boys. I'm would like to know (as a mom) how well would they be accepted by other kids their age or what have you..?!

totalplay internet is 80usd for their fastest internet service only, u said yours was fastest and was alot cheaper can u share the name of your service or other services that's cheaper.
I use Izzi and pay around 25-30 USD a month for faster and more reliable internet than i have ever had. I don't have TV or home phone service just internet
Something like that. But I would also have some sort of income you can rely on so you can live here in peace and comfort. But yeah I did it with 1,500 you can do it with 10k 😎

José, which websites list apartment for rent for Mexicans, that show the actual prices? Please. Thanks, i think OLX is one not sure. Where can you find the actual rental price not the gringo price? Thanks a million. You are the greatest!!!! Like Jackie Gleason a real gem! I met him before he died when I was 12.
Yes Rent is getting more expensive as the Mexican peso gets stronger but there is still plenty of very affordable housing in Mexico within the budgets I set in this video
I think it really depends on where you’re looking. Stuff posted online intended for foreigners is gonna be like $1k USD+ minimum. Gotta look locally, make relationships. My family in EDOMX says $400 USD/mo top for a basic, unfurnished 3bd house if you aren’t paying gringo tax.
Jose! how in the world are you hitting these numbers, I'm here, and I'm a conservative spender and I can't hit these numbers. If I spoke Spanish, perhaps it would be easier.......
Watched it three times with the ads been in Chiapas last year this year I'm checking out SE Asia imo Chiapas is cheaper and better except for Da Lat in Vietnam both equal 👌1000 per month if single and not balling you can live well. I smoke and went out for food and coffees too 😆
Forgetaboutit = Vietnam. I have a nephew who moved there last year. It's actually same price or cheaper than in Vietnam (Saigon), where we live in Mexico. We've compared costs And, yea if you'r on a 6 months Tourist Visa - its a hassle (but still only a $99.00 Volairs plane flight to Texas one way) to renew your Tourist Visa. Vietnam? Tourists Visas, they're having to make the Cambodia plane flight every 3 months and back. Get's expensive. Reply above about a Lawyer that can get you around the Temp. Visa and Permanente Residente Visa thing without qualifying income wise. Read above.
@@r.c.salyer3652 it's not cheaper than Da Lat no place is with that type of infrastructure and weather San Cristobal is comparable but colder in the winter than Da Lat and not quite as cost friendly. They stopped the 90 day visa in Vietnam a year ago it's only 30 days unless you get a work visa but in Mexico I qualify for a temp residency cuz I'm 65 😆
Hi José there is one thing bothering me, that I'm scared of. I am still guapa but you said Mexico is a young country. Will I feel like an old lady if I look 40? I am older than 40 but I look 40. I don't want to feel invisible. Ask Christian or her mother what she thinks cuz you're a dude. I have tried a lot of places but I just prefer Latino people. Not sure if it will be Mexico but it will be between Mexico and Peru. I just feel more at home with Latinos. Right now I'm in Turkey. You dont want to know. But please let me know if i will feel like I'm an old lady because I'm not 30. Thank you and congratulations on your growing channel!!! You ate the best! I can't believe you aren't the most popular in Mexico. There's no competition.
It is not a conspiracy theory. It is simple. Only a channel owner can shadow ban a user. My comments appear on all other channels. I wonder why you banned me, maybe cuz I use the same VPN as someone who dissed you? You knoweveryone uses a VPN
Yes it is, but they dont use it as much as in other countries. They do have an infrastructure set up. At the end the countries who really use crypto are those with unstable and unreliable currencies and economies. Mexico has neither so there is no real reason for mass adoption. Only time will tell as we move into a more digital world
And what are the common crimes in Mexico? That is where the cheap cost is coming from. Some may say not too bad, but for how many years of crime has beaten the crap out of Mexico, that would change the cost a lot.
@@JoseArteagaTravels Maybe in todays world, but I have been to Mexico a few times growing up. From Monclova, Chihuahua, to Puerto Vallarta, and I have watched people get robbed, kidnaped, and held up by gun point many times in public. There are police, but there man power is very low. Plus there are many many gangs who live there as well. Safer in some city's sure, but many things have happened over the years, and boy that takes a toll on cost.
That sounds more like Philadelphia or New York these days. But hey don't worry if you think it's dangerous you can just stay home we won't mind and totally understand
@@sunseedsthoughts592 with pesos! If you are asking for a price in dollars that’s a problem. Mexican businesses are setup to run and build things for Mexicans. So I just imagine someone asking a contractor to do something they haven’t done before, and demanding the local price, for types of labor that aren’t common in Mexico. Its not right if it takes them longer to do than usual. they aren’t going to jump at it without some incentive
@@hanson4035 That was really specific for such a broad initial statement. I don't think I've ever seen anyone ask for a price in dollars. That's not the currency here. I'm not sure if I fully understand your response. Being gringo priced is frustrating and takes advantage of foreigners for our perceived "wealth". I don't mind paying the fair price for a service but don't jack the price up just because you hear an American accent. I get enough profiling in the States for my demographic background. It's frustrating.
Please stop with the misleading "I came out here with $1500 to my name". Why mislead people with lies? That's so INTENTIONALLY deceptive. 1) From what I understand, that story...while sounding good...is not 100% true. You came out and rented an Airbnb...first...for something like a month, while you looked for a place to live. Once you found a place to live after already having lived in Mexico for one month, at that time you had $1,500 LEFT to live on AFTER you had already paid to live in an Airbnb for a month. Why lie to people? I wanted to subscribe to your channel until I discovered this intentionally deceptive narrative that your broken moral compass seems to say is okay? Why should anyone trust you if you are that okay with intentionally deceiving others??? That means you came to Mexico with significantly more resources than you claim...in 2018...when the economy was MUCH different, and MUCH better. 2) It's 2023, and the economy has shifted CONSIDERABLY. You could NOT have made it Mexico in 2018 on ONLY $1,500. Yet, you lead people to believe that because it sounds good. 3) Even on the Mexican websites and Facebook marketplace, it is a real struggle to find ANYTHING under $200 to rent now. It doesn't really matter what the city is. Even Lo de Marco. Sheesh, if this is really true about you, and your moral character is this weak...and warped...that you feel entitled to MISLEAD people that might really be in financial trouble, and in serious circumstances...like you were...with not much room to make a financial mistake before they're homeless...then shame on you. Seriously, learning this about you makes me not only NOT want to NOT subscribe, but to stop watching your videos altogether, and to WARN people about you. If you are truly this intentionally deceptive, and you can sleep at night, it's no wonder you lost your job in LA. You seemed like such a nice guy....but then again, one should never mistake a "nice person" for a truly good human being who has EMPATHY and concern for others. You really need to change your ways....BEFORE you harm someone irreparably. What if someone had lied TO YOU when you were near destitute??? What would've happened to you back then?
I did come out here with a 1,500 to my name. The Airbnb and flight were already paid for that's why I only had 1,500 left to my name when I came out here. Not quite sure what you are trying to get at. The flight and Airbnb for a month were about 1,000 total. So if you want technical. I started with 2,500 and only had 1,500 left to my name when I arrived. Hope that clears everything up.
They might produce it but they do not refine it. So they have to ship the raw product to the USA to refine and ship it back to consume.... thus bringing the cost way up. That is changing soon. as they are already opening new refineries to avoid having to export and import the same oil. Before you know it the price of gas will start to plummet....
