Lived in Puerto Vallarta for one year and Morelia for four years. My kid's mother is from Michoacan and my son was born there. I had a Chinese /Thai restaurant in Morelia also for three years. All three of my kids have dual citizenship. It's been 12 years since we have been back here in the States but I'm ready to leave this madness again for some sanity. Your videos are really good brother. I watch them and they are motivating me to return soon!

Hi Jose. Happy 2023. Your videos and everything you've talked about was the reason I picked Merida to move to. It's wonderful here. After nearly 7 years of travel and living out of 2 suitcases I've finally found a place I can call home. First time traveller to Mexico, arrived in May last year, and this year I will be getting my temp residency. Being here just makes me feel so happy and alive. 😁

I moved to Celaya because there are no expats there. I dress as everyone else my Spanish will be forever not up to local standards but from a distance I blend in pretty good. I figured if I am going to live in a country I will assimilate myself as much as possible. It is fun to watch your videos and see the foreigners who stand out screaming, "I am not from here". I keep myself busy working in a local flea market selling toys and I have a great time and have made so many friends. Oh and the parties. It is a wonderful place!!

How is the weather in Celaya? Earthquakes? Hurricanes? That’s what is did when I moved to Canada 30 years ago, just immersed my self in the culture ( or the lack of) and the language. I am studying Spanish now. Can’t wait to explore this beautiful country and get to know it’s beautiful people.

As to the " advice" given to Jose about his decision to charge the amount he decided to charge for his consultation fee. I have an old engineering story with a This reminds me of an old engineering joke. A huge ship engine wouldn't start so the designer of the behemoth chunk of machinery was called in & after climbing up & down a few ladders inspecting the giant, he took out his 3lbs ballpeen hammer & gave a component a few sharp raps. His bill was $10,000 The incredulous captain asked him" How can you charge that much for a half hour labour?!" The engineer replied; Simple, $500 for the service call & $9500 for knowing where to hit the beast & how hard." Jose hits it!

I've been doing the VanLife for 5 years and intend to ship it to mainland USA and drive my white Chevy, stealth, cargo van, with Hawai'i plates on the front & back, to a Mexican consulate in Texas probably, then across the border and through Mexico. I'm not sure where in Mexico to go to live.. so any advice on this, is very much appreciated 🌺 Gracious amigo P. A. O'ahu (but originally from London England)

Good luck, Jose. US$50 an hour? That's about $1,000 pesos an hour in Merida? Honestly, I was shocked to learn how much you'd charge. Usually, people in Mérida charge by the job.
@JoseArteagaTravels
@JoseArteagaTravels Год назад
No one is obligated to pay anything. It is all voluntary. Everyone that has had a zoom call with me has always told me I should charge more for all the information i provide. But i choose to keep it at $50 because i feel that what is fair for my time. Again it is simple capitalism. No one is forced to pay me for anything. You included.
@Isaonago
@Isaonago Год назад
@@JoseArteagaTravels I don't want to put you down, and I pray for your success. You've got to check the facts and ballpark figures. I'm just saying that charging 1,000 pesos an hour for a tour or other service in Merida is unreasonable. Every reasonable expat knows that. My immigration attorney charged less than 2,700 pesos for obtaining my residency visa. Probably she spent at least 5 hours or so to assist me. Our attorney spent hours and hours trying to find us a new home for three weeks and took care of all the legal matters and negotiations. He charged less than 10,000 pesos. I thought it would ruin your credibility. You sounded like you were only marketing to rich gringos who have no idea what the fair price is and are new to Mexico. I wouldn't make any further comment. That's all.
@JoseArteagaTravels
@JoseArteagaTravels Год назад
@@Isaonago I'm charging for my time. That is all. I offer so much information for FREE and no one is ever forced to pay for any of it. So if someone wants some of my time, that goes beyond the Free info I already provide there is a price for that. No one is forced to do anything and I not selling a service. People want to meet me and talk to me and are more than happy to pay because I have already given so much for FREE. It doesn't matter to me if you or others do not think it is fair. Everyone has an opinion. The reason I charge what I charge is because there are plenty of people who are more than happy to pay for a 1 on 1 with me. People often tell me how much more other RU-vidrs charge up to $200 USD and they get no useful information from them. I on the other hand often times get tips and paid even more than what I asked for simply because of the valuable information I provide. Just because you do not find me useful doesn't mean others think the same way. So in conclusion I appreciate your thoughts and I know you are just trying to make me feel bad or guilty or whatever but in all honest truth all I feel is grateful for this interaction so that others can read these comments and make up their own minds about your opinion about me. Thanks again for sharing your thoughts! Hope you have a wonderful day!

I heard through the grapevine that Merida is slated to be a smart city, which is NOT good news if you're freedom-minded. Is that true?
@JoseArteagaTravels
@JoseArteagaTravels Год назад
Yes it is True! But trust me I'm into all this if you know me well enough. At first I thought it was a concern until I slowly realized I was in Mexico and that things just don't function in the way those behind those agendas want. So long story short yes they are "trying" to make this a smart city, but all they are really doing is fixing infrastructure like adding more and better busses, better roads, and other infrastructure development to help attract people and business to the area. But trust me I have been to smart cities and this is no smart city. It's an amazing city but very far away from this being a totalitarian dystopia. All they are really doing is gentrifying the area with fancy restaurants, malls, and other amenities 😅

What I would like the country of Mexico to do is try a simple experiment in a city of decent size, not a huge city but say one with a population of at least 100,000 people. Please construct a water filtration and treatment plant, incentivize and teach the local city workers how to maintain it and provide funding to keep it up to standards. Potable water that can be delivered 24/7 would put that city ahead of the game. Other cities would want to have the same and would make life easier on the population. (It is better to light a candle than to curse the darkness.)
@JoseArteagaTravels
@JoseArteagaTravels Год назад
Just about every city in Mexico has a water treatment plant. Most Mexicans have access to plenty of clean drinking water. I stopped drinking water out of the tap a very very long time ago in the USA so the transition to here was great it was actually easier to access real clean water. So the experiment you are talking about has been going on for decades already, I'm sure longer than you or me have been alive.

@@JoseArteagaTravels thank you for this info. I am confused. Why does Qroo Paul on his youtube videos state to not drink the water from a tap in Mexico?
@JoseArteagaTravels
@JoseArteagaTravels Год назад
@@2cartalkers Same reason not to drink the tap in the USA. Have you been to flint? 😅
@2cartalkers
@2cartalkers Год назад
@@JoseArteagaTravels You are managing the exception with the Flint example even though that the water issue is bad. I am relying on people like you to tell the real story about Mexico; you are there, we who are not need truth and honesty.. My plans are to retire to Mexico soon because I love the culture which includes its history, food, music, arts, climate and most importantly its people. Can you share with me why Qroo Paul might state that although he has lived in Mexico for many years he will not drink the water out of the tap? Is it safe to do so or does one still need to purchase bottled water? I want to be enlightened.
@CallowG
@CallowG Год назад
@@2cartalkers The pipes are really old so even if you put 100% pure water into the system it's going to get contaminated along the way. Unless you know for a fact that all the pipes along the way are 100% intact pvc or copper you're best to assume it needs filtering. To correct this issue they would need to rip up all the streets and replace all the water pipes. You can either buy bottled water or install a filtration system in your house to eliminate potential contaminants. p.s. If I bought a property I would install a whole house filtration system but you can get by with just a reverse osmosis under the counter drinking water filter. Some places like PV and Ixtapa have potable tap water but people still drink bottled water because uh well ya never know.
