Students in Moscow get a student id card upon which they can get pass for unlimited rides on Metro and Bus. All the students travel by metro as it is cheaper and faster considering the traffic in Moscow which makes the taxi travel time same as of metro.
For groceries and food, you can buy from regular stores to lower your expenses. The biggest expenses in Moscow is of accommodation if you don't get the government hostel. Living in Moscow is expensive as compared to other cities in Russia, however not much.
