Could Have Been Worse!! 

My dad was a welder, I was a welder my grandson is a welder and I have been around welders and iron workers all my life. My eyes sorta left me as did the trade a few years ago. I miss it. Said all that to say this. Probably the best rod burner and technique I have ever seen. Makes me want to be young again and start all over

I make no distinction between what you do and what a virtuoso musician does, both take years and years of dedication and practice, both are an absolute joy to watch and hear and I will never be as 1/100th as good as either!!! You are a true master. Thank you for sharing your skills with us.

As the saying goes, “That’s not going anywhere!” I really like those torch-holding machines. They provide a beautiful cut.

Watching a craftsman craft at a high level is amazing. My man is making clean cuts and stacking dimes in the middle of service yards and equipment operation areas.

If you do this everyday in a production environment it is relaxing to watch someone that gets variety. Watching someone that does it well makes it even better. My crew is working right now and it is 15 degrees and falling all cutting, welding, gouging and grinding. Three of us are sitting in a unheated construction trailer on a break watching you on RU-vid, I have to say nice repair lol.

Nearly finished my apprenticeship as a Boilermaker in Australia and man I am learning so much from you this is brilliant stuff, thanks for sharing it online legend!

This is a man who is willing to pass down the knowledge he has to all of us and honestly there are not too many men like him out there, so thank you sir for these tips they sure will come in handy.

Great video I used a traveling torch back in the early 70s at the coal mine I worked at they sure are helpful when cutting a lot of heavy metal accurate you do a great job it takes me back to my repairing mine equipment days I spend a lifetime in a coal mine and I'm paying dear for it these days after five spinal surgeries and a back full of titanium you stay safe and keep up that high caliber work

Thank you for sharing. When I see that kind of metal fatigue I think about the other people on the road. That crack could have been gouged and welded before It got that bad. I really appreciate seeing your work.

I have worked for and with some good fabricators, later took a few semesters of welding at a community College (mainly to get access to the welding shop and toys for my own projects! Taught myself how to TIG there lol), read the books, watched lots of videos, and somehow after 25 years, today was the first time I heard about making sure the oxygen spike was longer than the metal is thick... I used and ignored pressure charts for tip size and metal thickness, but this is like an earth shattering piece of wisdom that just makes sense! Lol Thank you!

Impressive. Just to remove the damaged piece to clean parent metal took skill. Fillet weld looked like stacked dimes. You are one talented metal worker and welder.

I repaired three of these tabs on three different trailers for one oilfield outfit. What was causing the breakage was the fact that the drivers were not making sure that the vertical bearing surface was clean. All three of these trailers had mud packing in on the vertical surface so that when the pins locked in and the trailer was lifted the mud acted like a shim and put additional loading on the tab. I showed the owner this and explained it to him and he was a tad pissed. All of the drivers were told that if they broke another tab and there was mud packed in that they might as well just pack up and get gone. His exact words were dust and tail lights guys, dust and tail lights. Strangely enough, they never broke another tab. Good work by the way. There are so many that don't know how to use a torch properly.

You have been by far one of the biggest contributors of my knowledge for my shop, my humble shop compared to yours, I do CNC plasma cutting quite a bit, much less oxy acetylene super thick material than you do, although I am slowly getting into it, my machine only goes up to 1 in thickness on the CNC, I typically cut with propane and oxygen, which most people don't realize is pretty damn good for the average shop, and cost a whole lot less!

I dig your video styles so much, not every video/project is a 1hr long video of the same stuff. Your slideshow videos are great, your mentor videos with your new Apprentice are superb. The jobsite videos super realistic. The at home in the garage videos are relaxed and I usually enjoy my breakfast with those. Imma life time subscriber since before 10k. *Cheers

Always find it amazing how precise & surgical the air-arc gouging is. Have seen other videos that use that technique for removing material around a weld & find it quite impressive. The track cutter is another nice piece to have at your disposal.

Isaac, You are amazing!! Your experience would be very valuable at a tech school/community college, training our future craftsmen. Were I younger I would open a tech school and make you an offer you couldn't refuse. I would hope someone in your area would do that very thing. Our country needs the skills you have and display in every project you complete. Caterpillar is struggling to find people with skills just to do production welding but they also need people with your skill level to do the "salvage work" when the production welders don't do it right. There aren't 1 in 1000 with your skills. Reach out Dear Sir!!!!

I've been welding for 41 years and I could feel the burns while you were gouging. Nice work and I like the way that Hobart wire looks.

After 43 years doing what you do You are way better than I have ever been. Just a hint, When piercing metal with a torch I have always drilled a 1/4" hole just inside cut line. Torch will flow thru hole and give you a clean start instead of piercing and making a lot of cutting slag on top.

I’ve tried to figure out why I love and look forward to your uploads so much and I guess it always comes back to your skills knowledge and everything done in a calm never rushed and very professional manner. Watching you use the gas axe or torch is how I imagine watching some of the masters paint like Da Vinci, Rembrandt or Michelangelo. What you do is just like art but to a standard very few will ever achieve. Your son is real luck because he’s getting learn and work with one of the very best. Take care my friend.

I'ma welder 81 yrs young and I used that same track torch cuting machine in 1967 and it was great as the track could very up and down a little and still cut perfect I haven't seen one in a while good job, Jim las vegas nv

As usual, really a great job!!!! Using the tractor torch arm to burn the curve is something I've never seen before. and I've been around the work a very long time... It still requires your skill in torch set up, and a very steady, experienced hand on the torch feed... As I've said before, I 've never a craftsman as skilled and creative on the burning side... I'll bet the customer was really happy, now hopefully the other side won't break...!!!

Your attention to detail is what sets you apart from many welder fabricators out there!

A friend of mine told me an illustration that went like this, a business called a skilled tradesman to come and figure out what the problem was with their shop equipment. After a careful examination the service tech took out a screw driver and replaced a missing screw. Moments later the problem was solved. Later the check came and the manager complained, why did you charge 200 bucks for this simple fix? I demand that you itemize this invoice! The tradesman took back his invoice and took out his pen and wrote; " 1 screw 10 cents. Knowing where to put the screw $199.90 You always know what to do and how to do it, nice project thanks!

Well done. A craftsman at work. Gotta love a track torch. When I was a millwright in a sawmill we had track torch and a pantograph in the shop. We made a pattern out of 1/4" plate and set up the pantograph to cut out as many items exactly the same as we wanted. I was about the only guy that took the time to make a pattern. The pattern time and quality of the finished actual part far surpassed the guys "that can cut freehand". After the company was took over by a big corporation I almost bet it hit the scrapyard along with 25 years of patterns.

I worked at a steel mill as a welder and was fortunate enough to have a track torch, miss that job sometimes….a lot of teeth shanks on loaders and crop car repairs. Good job sir

I've seen a lot of welders do some serious fabricating and none of them come close to comparing how you weld all your welds always look like a roll of dimes it's awesome and a pleasure to watch you weld even though I'm not a welder but at any given time if I need to pick one up I'll pick one up I've seen a lot of videos of a lot of people got a lot of RU-vidrs on my phone and not all of them know how to weld but you sir are a master at what you do keep up the good work keep recording I'll keep watching God bless you and your family including the animals.

Very Good! Coping the pin placement was a good idea. Good to see which ideas work. About 50 yrs ago I used a hand camp on for cutting a circle. I don't make a good spectator.

That manufacture of trailer has had a lot of problems with this. The company I work for has a few of them. And we have had the same problem. Awesome job!

Regarding the one weld that does not run to the end: I believe that the theory behind that is in the way the "ring" is loaded. In this type of trailer the pins are effectively pulling the ring out of the weldment when the rest of the trailer is attached. With the "ring" needing to be anchored to the rest of the hitch section. You want stresses on that ring to be distributed out among as much weld cross-section as is practical. If you welded fully across that spot, right at the leading edge of the ring you are basically loading all the stress right into that section of weld and frame section as the rest of it woul be dead loaded and under no real stress. If you leave a significant part un-welded the stresses can be carried to a deeper, separate section of the frame where they can "share the load." In addition, in a cyclic loading situation (like this) the original grain structure in the steel is more fatigue resistant than weld material. This is why in more obvious loading arrangements like cylinder mounts for an excavator stick have wide welded sections and narrowed, curvy tabs. You want the pieces with the highest stress to be virgin steel where the grain isn't interrupted by a weld- Tabs on modern equipment are shaped more like this } vs. >

great job, when I saw you blew the hole out with oxy I sort of thought "hmmm, he's a bit of a bodger" , but now I totally understand why you didn't throw it in the 4 jaw. if the new side was a round hole and the other side was worn it could double the load on the new piece. you are a credit to the trade sir.
