People wouldn’t be happy if it falls North Melbournes way? Let’s not forget that we’re effectively missed out on the last two consensus number one picks (Daicos and Ashcroft) because they’ve been taken, or been eligible to be taken as Father Sons. I think we’re due for it to fall our way.

If these kids are being moved to tears saying they can't leave their home state, they shouldn't nominate for the draft. The AFL needs to state, in plain and simple terms, if you do not want to leave your home state, do not nominate for the draft and hopefully one day a team might pick you up in the SPP. If you can't stand the thought of moving with the promise of hundreds of thousands of dollars, maybe joining a national competition isn't for you.

I know Harley Reid personally, went to school with him for years and were close for a while. His OFFICIAL word is that he would ultimately prefer Victoria but he is happy to go to the Eagles. He's also said stuff about being a one-club player - that includes West Coast.

These kids are going to a different state, what is the big deal, they go back to Melbourne every 2nd weekend to play.. it's not like they are going to a different country, foreign language, completely different climate etc & only ever go back to visit their families during the off-season.

Guys, whatever club you support… whatever your views are… whatever biases we have or don’t have towards our team. When media journalists (not mentioning any names like Kane Cornes or Sam McClure) arguably become advocates for draft manipulation, we are in very scary territory indeed. This needs to be stamped out at all costs. There are times in the footy past where I have been disillusioned, but this is just one step above anything and at the very worst if it gets this bad in years to come it can turn into borderline corruption. If a player completely has no interest going to the Eagles, he is well within his right to voice his preference because in a perfect world he would be more comfortable in his own state… shame on anyone for singling a kid out like that. But if Harley Reid got drafted to the Eagles it would be a disadvantage to Port Adeliade, and it would be a disadvantage to Carlton… and knowing full well that the two biggest advocates at the moment now know that if he stayed in Victoria they would not be as impacted, but if he went west it would go the other way. I’ll address the elephant in the room… I’m an Eagles fan, so do I have bias?? absolutely!! 😂. But I have to be honest if my team or the Dockers somehow screwed the system over to illegally get Patty Cripps because he is a West Australian (or if he secretly got handed a bag of cash), I would stop watching footy completely out of conscience. There are lines that can never be crossed I hope the Eagles get him to be honest, but I will accept it if we don’t, but let’s put all our biases aside and address a very serious issue… if AFL turns into the NBA with Lebron colluding with teams superteams creating a monopoly on the competition, it will be the death of AFL.

Feel like players can’t win. They do a JHF and say “yeah I’ll go anywhere” get drafted then leave after 1 season because they were home sick and get slaughtered by the media. Rather than all this life support for the bottom teams, they should just be relegated to a league below. That'll make the games between bottom teams at the end of the year much more exciting; they'll be playing to avoid relegation. Then there'll be no more tanking, and no need for this silly 6-6-6 system they're talking about having before finals

If you're a Melbourne born player and you don't hate your family, your mates, your life of course you'd PREFER to stay in Melbourne. That's not him saying he wouldn't play and try in a different state.
