My parents always said to buy the best you can afford. That policy has served me well.

I shop based on more criteria than that. I shop based on it meeting a minimum functionality (ie does the tool properly fit the fastener) and service-life of the tool. The tools that live full-time in the vehicle don't hardly get used at all. So long as they fit the fasteners I don't worry if they're incredibly inexpensive, odds are that I'm going to lose tools more than use them. Back before Sears screwed itself up, most of my mechanic's hand tools used in the workshop came from them, because they were generally good enough, didn't break often, and were easy to get replaced if they did break. Obviously Sears messed that up, but that wasn't a foregone conclusion to start with. There's no sense in buying tools where one company's single item costs as much as another company's whole set, if that whole set will remain adequate for the life of the tool. Obviously this means a homeowner or shade-tree mechanic can get away with cheap tools much of the time. A professional probably should buy higher end, but then again they're using those tools a lot more and the extreme resistance to failure of the tool matters a lot more for them as someone using the tool daily or even multiple times daily.

Ratcheting screw drivers are awesome but ratcheting spanners! That was the game changer for me.👍

ive about eight or so snap on ratchet screwdrivers along with at least thirty others too , they are not cheap , but they are the ones I reach for every time, I prefer the older ratchets with the larger hard plastic handle and the better bit storage cap though.

I hear ya Tom! The older ones were better.

I bought one of these many years ago in the UK a spring inside broke and I took it apart to see what was going on ,a ball bearing droped out and I lost it. I was passing a garage and the Snap-on van was there so I showed the guy the broken tool .....he repaired it there in front of me for free no issues whatsoever! Yea there expensive but ya get what ya pay for with Snap on.

That is always the first thing the Snap-on guys asks when he stops in. "Got anything broken?" Great company.

Klein tools make some similar and really nice, plus you can get them from Amazon no need to wait for tool truck.

Hi Kevin, I use this screwdriver allready for years, never failed. You can also put a bit in the red cap itself and use it in thight spaces and also, the you can pull the long bitholder out of the handle and use a shorter one or use it to put a screw in a deep hole without the handle and tighten it after...

Only problem, most non Chinese ratcheting screwdrivers don't share their bits with electric ones (1/4 inch hex). If you lose a bit, it's gone forever.

huh? the only major difference I've ever seen in quarter-inch hex is where one may have a detent-relief cut into it, nominally for impact-rated bits. Tools that use the detent type usually have a collar around the socket that has to be pulled or pushed. That seems to be regardless of country of origin. There are some various form factors that are not 1/4" hex, but usually the smaller ones are considered precision/jeweller's/ignition sized, while the ones bigger than 1/4" hex are considered extreme duty.

Hi Kevin, just to add to Lucky star's comment, you can buy short medium & long screw driver blades & also a quarter drive one ? so that you can use sockett's or torque bits in it, it is a fantastic tool, I personally prefer their tee handle ones, Great video Kevin.

Thanks Ray, will have to ask the guy the next time he stops in.

I try not to use a screwdriver if at all possible, I may start a screw with one but having several different cordless drivers makes it so much easier and I can work all day if need be. Snap On are very nice tools but anymore the difference in cost compared to other fine tools does not make it cost efficient .
