This incident was purely a miracle. It wasn't thought that a plane could land completely safely without hydraulics and using engines as a primary method of control. The fact that the crew made it out fine AND the plane was repaired shows you the amazing work by the crew. I think after this incident, there was a concept explored where a computer could control the thrust to control the plane perfectly and an MD-11 actually did do a successful landing in real life with this technology, but however it isn't implemented cause losing all hydraulics is simply too unlikely of an incident.

According to this, a same problem with a JAL flight also had no hydraulic pressure. The DHL pilots are awarded with the best of their abilities.

@@bluuwatergt the whole comment sections will be like ''rYaNaIr lAnDiNg bE lIkE'' and while they land hard, it's not a crash. also they fly to destinations with very short runways or places with a lot of downwind (windshear) which cause the wind to literally throw the plane on the ground to land safely without causing a fatal crash, it's better to have a broken neck than die.

Some major cargo carriers attempted to have anti-missile tech onboard, with FedEx installing some laser-jamming stuff on their planes! Sadly, though, the cost of these systems was far too high for a slim possibility of the plane being shot down, thus bringing an end to that.

What about JAL 123 where the pilot's kept the plane in the air for a whopping 32 mins without a tail and tried their best to get back to haneda. the cause of this was boeing technicians improperly installing a doubler plate.
