the one mountain range that made Chile so thin is the same that avoided like 2345 wars with Argentina; the Atacama desert has the copper mines that push the economy, and the looooong coast to the Pacific besides its fisheries make Chile a node/hub for trade with east asia. Also all of this kept migration under control unril they invented airplanes

Eastern half of Bolivia is a flat level fertile plain, and if not for the lack of water in the Gran Chaco, it would be agriculturally very very productive. But you know South American countries generally have a lot of political and social Instability and inefficient government policies which are themselves corrupt and often under the influence of the US or other wealthier European/Asian countries.

I think most of the countries mentioned here arent actually the most disadvantaged, the key features of a good geography are a hard exterior, a soft interior, strategic depth and a large core population which can exert force on outer territories many of the countries mentioned here have two or more of these. i.e. indonesias geography is definitely not ideal but the fact it is an archipelago makes it very difficult to invade and the economic and demographic dominance of the fertile and highly populous island of java mean that Jakarta has been able to retain control of most of Indonesia, a country the size of Europe with relative ease despite the obvious difficulties involved. Chile also doesn't deserve to be on this list, it is bounded by deserts and ocean and mountains on all sides and in the centre sits a large albeit thin fetile plain which is culturally homogenous, earthquakes be damned, no one is easily invading Chile at least for the time being.

As a Chilean, Geography is one of the most interesting topics about my own country, together with history. The Andes and the ocean have proved incredible at defending the country, the south once was a hub of trade as it was the sole way to go from europe to the pacific, short of crossing three oceans, and the north brought primary resource riches such as saltpeter, and currently copper and lithium. Gives us plenty of access to the largest ocean and the andes has granted us said protection, but also isolation which, while a double edged sword, also helped create the country as we know it

An impressively depressing list. I'm going to suggest that any number of very small countries in the Pacific are candidates for most disadvantaged. Some are too low-lying to survive even a smallish rise in sea level (like the Maldives). At least one, Nauru, is facing the end of its sole natural commodity (guano) that is tradable for needed imports. Some of these tiny countries are really too small to sustain an existence as an independent nation--lack of area, lack of population, lack of infrastructure. They were easily taken over by colonial powers, and some got independence mostly because the cost of subsidizing them and/or maintaining a government there became detrimental to the colonial power, so just cutting them loose became desirable--this being also good politically (I'm being cynical here). Would also add Haiti: not enough arable land, severe environmental damage from overpopulation, prone to both severe earthquakes and hurricanes. As the population grows and the environment becomes more degraded, things can only get worse.

I'm from Bangladesh. Although the video is mostly based on geographical location, it lacks other economical factors. For example how high population can be turned into skilled resources (examples India, China and Bangladesh). We're the second largest apparel exporter. Because of our fertile soil and ample water supply, we are among the top producers of rice (third), potatoes (seventh), tropical fruits (sixth), jute (second), and farmed fish (fifth). Bangladesh is one of the fastest growing economies in the world. Our economy is the 35th largest in the world in nominal terms, and 25th largest by purchasing power parity. Bangladesh is seen by various financial institutions as one of the Next Eleven, an emerging market, a middle income economy, and a frontier market. Although Bangladesh is one of the most disaster prone and climate vulnerable country in the world, the death toll from extreme weather events has drastically decreased. Bangladesh have relatively well managed the COVID-19 pandemic crisis. We have been efficiently managing the 1.2 million persecuted Myanmar Rohingya citizens (750,000 new arrivals since 2017 Rohingya exodus). We have gained remarkable resilience and experience in disaster management, climate change mitigation, adaptation and nature-based solutions.

@danielmocsny5066
@danielmocsny5066 Год назад
It's sad, but at least we've made considerable progress. Before World War II, invasions were routine almost everywhere. Almost every line on the map was drawn in blood, and some were redrawn multiple times. After World War II there have still been wars, but the so-called "rules based order" is based on nations having sovereign territory and no nation having the right to unilaterally violate another nation's territory by force. This is why Russia's invasion of Ukraine is seen as so egregious - Russia is challenging the rules-based order, which has been the organizing principle of international law for almost 80 years. If Russia succeeds, the rules-based order might collapse, and we could back to the bad old days of nations routinely invading their neighbors to grab more territory and resources. The rules-based order might hold, but we have another problem which could turn out to be worse than invasions: man-made climate change. It's possible to defend your country against invasion, but there is no defense against carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. The atmosphere is well-mixed, so everybody's fossil carbon emissions distribute to everybody else. And as the polar ice caps melt, the sea level rises for everybody with a coastline. Coastal nations might be able to protect some of their cities with seawalls and levees, but that won't be practical for most low-lying areas of land.

Bangladesh's only pressing problem is overpopulation. Right now the population stands about 165 million which is too much for an area just the size of New York State. If the population were kept below 50 million, it would have become another Netherlands because it is located in the most fertile area of the world and large coastal area for deep water port. But the population is just too many and it puts tremendous stress on the country's resources. Although water is plenty, land is scarce due to housing and farming, leaving little for industrialization. However, Bangadesh's economy is growing at a rapid rate. They should take the East Asian countries economic route by becoming hub for manufacturing since labour is still cheap. The government should invest in a technology that could use less land for farming but yields similar result. Then the former farming land could be used for setting up factories that employs these former agricultural workers. This would increase their income and the overall being of Bangladeshis.

Since my family have been living in the UK since the 1990s and still live here, connecting through phonelines was virtually impossible at the time of the floods. We had to wait at least a week or two for the phone lines to work again. (of course no blame on them because the water destroyed everything.) I just find it sad because most of these people are not responsible for climate change but they have to face the brunt of it.

Those flash floods are due to unregulated deforestation in Meghalaya. Don't know how's the deforestation situation in Sylhet. Sylhet and its surrounding districts can spend money on better drainage system to get rid of rainwater quicker.

@@t.f.r287 yeah I totally agree with you, the government need to spend more money on good infrastructure. The part where I'm from, it's mostly a village area and development in those areas are quite slow. Around 50% of people in the country work in agriculture and 70% of the land is used for growing crops, so yeah. Also I think India needs to regulate the water coming out from east India and the Himalaya's because as you mentioned that's where the water is coming from. Kind of sad because Bangladesh is kind of like a dumping ground for them.

So many misinformation shared here about Bangladesh. Bangladesh's population growth rate is not increasing but decreasing and it's fertility rate now at replacement rate and lower than world average. Land area of Bangladesh is decreasing is also false. In fact land area of Bangladesh is increasing 20 sq. km per year due to massive amount of river silt being deposited on the coastal areas. Bangladesh is unlikely to loose land due to sea level rise as flood silt naturally elevate coastal areas and Bangladesh govt. is implementing 'Deltaplan 2100' project to tackle sea level rise with tens of billion dollar investment.

The drawbacks of Indonesia's archipelago isn't that you need boats, it's the separation of humans preventing national cohesion and supporting separtism. But more importantly the factors which created the archipelago made it subject to earthquakes and volcanos and cyclones, which are the real problem. the ocean is still the most efficient method of transport despite all the advancements in road, rail, and aviation, which is why global shipping is global shipping, not global trucking.

Could argue for Australia, given how dry and flat it is, the position of its mountains & associated rain shadow means most of it is desert, but the small population and bits that do have water mean it does alright. Also prone to fire and cyclones and floods etc.

O Romeo, O Romeo, O Romeo Santos de Chile ! For a Landmass to get the title Subcontinent, you will have to prove that Chile has its own independent Continental Tectonic Plate, that moves independently of the South American Plate. like the Subcontinent of India, the Indian Plate is crashing into the Asian Plate quite aggressively, hence the Himalayas are getting taller and taller every 1000 years. Hence India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Parts of China, myanmar are called as part of the 'Indian Subcontinent'. Its not just the Geographical features that define a landmass as a sub continent my friend. O Romeo, O Romeo, O Romeo Santos de Chile! Hope I have answered your queries till ur heart's content ! As a Bangladeshi I somehow expected my country to be in the list! I know, all those countries are at risk. But ours is another level because of the population density. It's more than 1300 people per square kilometer. I remember this summer we've got (41-42)°C with more than 80% humidity. And most of the people can't afford air conditioning here. Winter is coming late and we are experiencing floods more frequently than ever.

BUT it was never conquered: The brits, the soviets and USA (NATO) never got the chance to conquer the country, becaus of the geography: Because of the stupidly high mountains in the middle of the country, the city-layout of Afghanistan is shaped like a circle. This circle is one whole road. To reach this road (eg. with tanks), you must use the only road that is leading to Pakistan. And the talibans destroyed a bridge on this Pakistani Road while the US (NATO) was in this road-circle, wich is named by me as "the circle of Jahannam" ["Jahannam" is the "hell" in the koran]
@inisipisTV

@@schaumwolke6062 Actually the reason it's never been conquered is because it's not worth it. Or simply, they don't like it. If Afghanistan has oil, rich mineral deposits or good agricultural land. You can bet all the neighboring countries would slice and dice it up like a pizza. The Western powers would gang bang it till eternity like a back alley hooker. (And probably do some extreme genocide on the inhabitant) Fortunately or unfortunately for the Afghans they have nothing there worth the money to occupy it with. The countries having geographic advantage as per my understanding are these(in no particular order) - USA, Spain, UK, France, Italy, Germany, Netherlands, India(to some extent, but with a lot of neighbouring problems), New Zealand(with some challenges like remote), Australia, Colombia, South Africa, Gabon, Mexico. Ofcourse some of these countries have their internal struggles with corruption, population explosion and bad governance from time to time. But I would like to think their location has actually helped them to prosper to some extent, rather than be a disadvantage.
