Just starting to play lead, though I have been a singer/songwriter since the late 1970's. Love the track and your playing on this one. Never have been "afraid" and have always enjoyed lead guitarists that play pretty much the pentatonic leads. I find they "speak to me" very clearly. Thanks for all that you have made available - helping me already. Brian Gardner

I’ve “mastered” maybe 8 lessons now (my version of mastered. Won’t be on the radio any time soon). I played this for my wife last night and she was pleasantly surprised to hear me say with some confidence that this will be my next project. I told her that there’s no question I can play it, I just have to put in the time. AM has been great for me. Equal parts of leadership, inspiration and confidence. Thanks Brian.

Yes! So fantastic to break down a lead like this. Builds so much facility. And it’s wild how much clearer everything instantly is compared to a year or two ago when it was still hieroglyphics.

Brian, as a member of AM I am just blown away by the quality and consistency of your lessons. What would be really cool is a video of you composing a lesson from scratch including the writing and recording process for the piece and backing track. Anyway, thanks for the inspiration and keep up the great work!

Fantastic, I'm having great fun playing this, I had neglected major pentatonic too much, and so much can be taken from basing improv on major but dipping into minor. The 3 major chords give this an overall Mixolydian flavour too.

Great stuff man! I do like this style of analysis. Especially with styles that have a few chromatic notes, or things that follow the changes. I am better at seeing how “out” notes fit in than I used to be. It was really perplexing for quite a while. But when you explain things like a flat 7, the push and pull between major and minor, flat 5, etc., a beginner can start to understand the function of each of these. Well done!

Can't wait for the rest of the lesson, I'll get back to it now.... Ok, now I've watched the whole part 1 video, and I understand it, but it's gonna take some practice before I can pay it that fast! Can't wait to see part 2! This is fun stuff! (I'm headed there now...sure glad I'm a subscriber!)

love your stuff so signed up some months ago to your lessons and really enjoying them, one thing I'm wondering though, I'm sort of new to electric guitar and sounds and it would be kind of cool if at the end of the lessons you could chat a bit about your set up and how you're getting that sound? Still working on trial and error LOL

Brian, your lessons for these and related video are some of the best! I am not that well versed in the major pentatonic, just learning, but in this video at 5.22 you mention that is the E major pattern 4. When I play it it deems as though it is part of pattern 3. Can you clarify this for those of us that are relatively new to playing the pentatonics?
