Dr. Sagar Dugani, an Associate Professor of Medicine in the Division of Hospital Internal Medicine, Mayo Clinic, Rochester, MN, reviews his article appearing in the July 2024 issue of Mayo Clinic Proceedings where he assessed the rural/urban disparities in the incidence and prevalence of diabetes. Using data from the US CDC, Dr. Dugani found diabetes incidence was highest among those dwelling in the most rural counties and the rural-urban disparity could be accounted for by adjusting for sociodemographic factors such as food environment, healthcare providers, inactivity, and obesity. Dr. Dugani noted obesity and inactivity were the most significant causes for the increase. Available at: mayocl.in/3X5wqNP
