In an interview, Billy Gibbons said, ""Yes, it's based on a rap song from the 1990's entitled '25 Lighters' by Lil' Keke and Fat Pat. It was recorded at a Digital Services Recording in Houston and we worked there as well, so we got to know those guys and that song just stayed with us for all that time. It really stayed in our head for all that time while we figured out how to deconstruct it and transform it into a guitar-based, blues-infused rocker as you hear it on La Futura. That guitar breakdown is something of a tribute to the great Lightnin' Hopkins, another of our 'heroes of the Houston ghetto.'"

Michael Tabor 1 year ago ZZ Top is from Texas. In1989 DJ DMD (also from Texas) had a rap song called "25 Lighters". When ZZ Top's studio was being worked on they shared a recording house with a bunch of hip-hop artists. They got to be pretty good friends and ended up reworking the song. BTW, in Houston, dealers used to take Bic Lighters apart, remove the inside and fill them with crack. So yeah, this song is about slinging rocks.

True. He also said his FAVORITE was Chicago’s Terry Kath. Kath is one of the greatest artists ….singing and playing guitar. BB KING said Kath sounded like Ray Charles.

Yes Asia! The Hard Bass with his Raspy Voice gave this hard gravelly feel to me but then it has this underlying melody. Some of ZZ Tops songs sound very similar to me, but this song was Badass! Somehow I missed this song & it is SO going on my Playlist! Thanks for the share family. ❤

Billy Gibbons is from The H. He co-wrote this song in the 90s and still owns the rights to it.

THANKS for clarifying the lyrics for this one...I been trying to figure em out since this popped. I'm an old-school fan of ZZ...since the 70's. All you need for a party is a little ZZ, a little whiskey, and a little of the "combustible botanicals," then it's ALL good. Tip of the cap to the band too...they stay "plugged in" to the music scene and what's going on with popular music across all the genres. It's kept em relevant over the decades. It shows within their music too. And, RIP Dusty...you're sorely missed.

Speaking of a rap song re-done, The Gourds recreated Snoop Dogg's "Gin 'n Juice" and it is sooo good! The Gourds are a southern alternative rock/country (maybe a little bluesy) band from Austin. If you haven't heard it, I know you will love it! Snoop himself is a big fan of it!

I would love it if you would react to ZZ TOP's "I NEED YOU TONIGHT" (1983). I think it is the best of their 80's music; kind of mysterious and sexy at the same time. People always say the song can bring out the "inner stripper" in everyone, and I have to agree 😅!

Much respect to ZZ Top but you should react to the original version of this song. This is actually a cover from a rap song by a rapper from Houston named “DJ DMD- 25 lighters”
