Been a ZZ Top fan my whole life. Not to mention Billy’s solo stuff. Baddest ass blues rock in the world. And of all their huge hits, this is actually one of my favorite songs they’ve ever done.

This song is actually a cover of DJ DMD's 25 lighters from Houston as a salute to his Houston heritage. Zz definitely did them right and it came out fairly recently in contrast to their big hits
Word is Dusty was borrowing recording space while his was being renovated. Also at the studio was Fat Pat and KeKe. After meeting and appreciating each others craft, ZZ decided to cover the classic 25 Lighters we all know.
I have the complete collection of every Z Z Top song recorded. They take me back to 1973. I'm 62 years old and my first teen-age band loved to play this great Texas Blues-rock. And they're still at it!
They were all 62 years old when they did this. It's a spin off of the rap song "25 Lighters" by DJ DMD. BTW, they all hit the 70 age mark and are still going strong. My brother-in-law saw them in concert last year and he said it was a GREAT time.
Billy played a part in the show Bones for several seasons. He was just as bad ass on it as he is in his music and on stage! Always loved ZZTOP and Billy Gibbons is one of the best there has ever been! 🎶🎧😎🎶👍🤗

25 Lighters was actually a DJ DMD hop hop song from 98. It blew my mind when the hip hop world and Rock/Blues worlds collided! I remember the song from back in the day, so when I heard ZZ Top cover it. It was AWESOME!!!
That sound is called 'Texas Funk Rock'... cuz' Jesus just Left Chicago and He's bound for New Orleans....Just Got Paid Today...Cuz they are Beer Drinkers and Hell Raisers. Doubt you will find MTV videos of those three, but they rock.
"Just Got Paid" is another song to do, I promise it's a different song entirely. Don't forget "Tush", "Francine" and "Waitin' for the Bus / Jesus Just Left Chicago"
Jamal, I've never seen you have so much fun with a single band before like this. This song was from 2012, and it teases an older song several times that you would really like. "I'm Bad, I'm Nationwide". There's no video to go along with it, but the words alone are all you need.
Dude is one of the longest surviving bands with all the original members, 50 years. Thank you for pointing out the funk sound. I never realized until you pointed it out. I have been listening to then for 40 years.

Just got paid, , but really theres no bad zzt song..i just saw em a couple montgs ago west palm beach. Dude they were so wonderful and every song was a blast from the soundtrack of life. Your the best Jamal

Being from Houston, you can sometimes run into these guys. I was at a music store checking out a cheap bass for a friend of mine who wanted my opinion for a student. I’m playing my cheesiest bass line of all time on an awful sounding instrument (I’m not a bass player btw) and in walks Billy Gibbons. Just the nicest, coolest dude. I never acknowledged who he was and he didn’t bring it up. We just chatted for a minute. No ego. Jimmy Hendrix called him the best young/up and coming guitarist. He may not be Jimmy Hendrix, but he’s bad to the bone anyway. Yeah, ZZ Top is legit.
One song that will absolutely blow your mind is "Manic Mechanic" it's totally different and absolutely underrated! Another great slower song is "Rough Boy" from Afterburner! Loving the reactions and your take on music! ☮️ from Nebraska!
Michael Tabor 1 year ago ZZ Top is from Texas. In1989 DJ DMD (also from Texas) had a rap song called "25 Lighters". When ZZ Top's studio was being worked on they shared a recording house with a bunch of hip-hop artists. They got to be pretty good friends and ended up reworking the song. BTW, in Houston, dealers used to take Bic Lighters apart, remove the inside and fill them with crack. So yeah, this song is about slinging rocks.
It says it was released in 2012. All of ZZ tops catalog is awesome. Went to high school with some ZZ top fans that had trucks totally inspired by them. There was a 1940s Chevy pickup, ZZ top red with a chrome tailgate that had the keychain logo engraved into the chrome. This was in 83 to 85 (when we graduated) wish I had a picture of those trucks.
Best thing: you can listen to this 100 times and still get exactly the same feeling as when you heard it the first time. In fact, it gets better every time.

I've watched your reaction to this song a couple dozen times. My favorite song of theirs! This is off of the Tres Hombres album that came out the year I was born (1973). Saw them live in Kansas City in 2016. Those old guys still bring it!

Billy Gibbons has a books out about his life and passions. hes a prolific car, motorcycle and guitarists. he was one of Jimi Hendrix's top influences on the guitar. now that alone means a lot!
A lot of their early videos, Legs, Sharp Dressed Man, Cheap Sunglasses, etc., were all early in MTV days when videos were a really new thing for the music industry, like early / mid 80's. This is probably less than 10 years old... It's easy to forget though, these guys are old, Tube Snake Boogy, Le Grange, etc. predated MTV by a lot, never made videos, and that's from a band that now heavily identified by their videos. There was a documentary on Netflix, pretty crazy, listening to them tell stories about touring with the Rolling Stones back when...
