Gayle, all those adorable, bright fabrics, rickrack, snippets are just so adorable. Despite the machine issues, it was great fun to watch these little books "grow up" to be a Gayle original. I know you probably get super frustrated but you always manage to keep your cool. I think you are extremely patient. Send hubby get well wishes from me.

So I watched you work on "MY" journal. Sorry that it has been such a challenge. But it's looking good to me. A thought on your sewing issue. Sometimes when my machine acts up, I completely rethread the top and also reinsert the bobbin. It's kinda like a reboot (or a slap in the head) it works well for me.
@gayleagostinelli_ct
@gayleagostinelli_ct 6 лет назад
Haha, Paula, I like the slap in the head analogy!! I swear if it's going to mess up, it's when I'm filming. Yes!!! I wasn't anticipating the challenges with little Miss Paper Doll, but I think she's shaping up! I couldn't decide whether or not to put washi in the page edges, since it's so fragile. But since I know her new owner is a journal making pro, I figure you will reinforce it if you think it needs it. 😄❤️
@pamelal210
@pamelal210 5 лет назад
Paula, that usually works for me, too. Inevitably, when I DON'T sew a few practice stitches first, I can get some wonky stitches and rethreading and reinserting the bobbin fixes it. Thanks!

My machine does better if I hold the top thread for the first few stitches. Try that. After you oil and clean, and put a sharp needle. Make sure your top and bottom thread are the same brand/type. be sure it's properly threaded. I love these little books! They are darling!
@hoosierhippie5789
@hoosierhippie5789 6 лет назад
They are going to be gorgeous......just a thought....I know my sewing machine only likes metal bobbins...I agree with the housing of the bobbin the way it is designed. I know I have to only use certain thread. If it was the speed you sew it could be you need to put one of those non slip mats under the machine to keep the bobbin from bouncing maybe. It is frustrating but I sew fast too 😉 love the fabric you used. Hugs and Blessings 😘🌺🌴🌵🌞

I know this is way past the airing of the show making this little book. You want to keep the original bk pages as original as possible, but when they are so fragile, would it be wrong to use decopage or spreading glue over both sides of the pg. You're probably gasping about the idea but it wouldn't tear as easily I've started watching your shows and I am fascinated with this type of crafting. Now i'm thinking of all of my oldies and goodies and all the things I have saved with not having ideas for it. Now I know what I can do. You have truely inspired me to get started. We are almost neighbors. I'm an eastern WA. resident who grew up in NW Idaho, Orofino Idaho.

If there is a screw on the bobbin holder on machine.take a small screw driver and slightly turn it to the right. Will tighten the bobbin so it won't do that. Don't tighten to much u could mess it up. Just a hair

3 things you may need to do to help your machine. 1. If your manual says to oil, it my be time to do that, it sounds like you are grinding. 2. Buy a can of air at Staples or any office supply store and remove the full plate and clean where the bobbin is located. . 3. Change the needle. It may be getting dull. Question ? Are you using Singer bobbins? Not all plastic bobbins or even Singer bobbins are made for your specific singer. I have 2 one has metal bobbins one has plastic. Just checking as I know some people believe one fits all and that is not the case. Love your books though Gayle! Just adorable.

That poor butterfly on the belly bands just wasn't destined to go into these books. Every time you just said nope and went to the other end hehehhe. Slow and steady may get you through sewing on your pages but what happens if say you want to sew something else like maybe..... I don't know clothing, I am not sure I would have the patience to go slow when making a long dress with a flared skirt. The sewing company should maybe work on their product development a little bit before putting out on the shelves for the consumers. But hey we make due with what we have don't we. Mine is quite old, maybe 25 years I think, I got it for Valentines so long ago, my choice I did ask for it, it wasn't an unromantic gift or anything. It amazes me how far they have come in that time. I saw one that you just press a button to get it going then press it again to stop it, no foot peddle, brilliant I think hehhe. Thank-you again lovely lady for another info packed video. Have a wonderful day!!!.

I have sewed for 40 years. I watched as you put in the bobbin. It appears it needs to go in the exact opposite of how you put it in. Hopefully you understand what I'm saying. Good luck.

Hi Liz! I sewed the little fabric squares to a strip of fabric. I got the little images like the butterfly on muslin at Michaels and the words are those little Tim Holtz chit chat words. I don't think I did a video of making this one, but hope that helps! ❤️

I don't think it's you. I have a new Brother machine that looks remarkably like yours. Have only used it a few times but the bobbin does the same thing. Are they really made by the same company? hmmmmm. Doesn't matter if I go slow or quicker- cuz I mostly go slow being new to this machine, etc. If you figure it out - let me know! Loving these Golden books and the way you are showing us the whole procedure.

Sorry for the late response, Karen! I just saw your comment. My Etsy shop is CinnamonT. This past year I’ve had so many custom orders that I’ve rarely had any journals listed in my shop. But 2019, I’m not going to take custom orders, so that all customers have a chance at a journal listed in my shop. I will always show finished journals on my You Tube prior to listing them in the shop. Here’s the link to my shop: www.etsy.com/shop/CinnamonT ❤️

Haha, Julianne, here’s the recipe. Sorry for the late response. I just now saw your comment! 1 pound hamburger, 1 egg, mix in 1 minute oatmeal until it’s a good consistency. Add salt, pepper, Italian seasoning. Mix well. Pat half into a patty shape in the bottom of a casserole. Top it with sliced Velveeta cheese. Add the rest of the hamburger on top. Form into a loaf, closing the sides so the melted cheese stays in. Cover the meatloaf with a can of tomato soup. Cover. Bake at 350 degrees for about an hour and half. This was my Mom’s recipe and definitely comfort food for me!! ❤️

What is feed sack material Gayle? Is it a cotton, but different than quilters cotton? You seem to use it a lot, and its very pretty. Sorry about your husband's back. I hope he get's better soon.
@gayleagostinelli_ct
@gayleagostinelli_ct 6 лет назад
Hi Laurie! Feed sack fabric is vintage. It's the actual fabric they used to make sacks that carried animal feed. I'd say 1920's, 30's or so. Women used to save the sacks and make dresses for themselves and their daughters from it. ❤️
@LadyLeda2
@LadyLeda2 6 лет назад
Really? All those pretty patterns to carry animal feed in? WOW!! Do you suppose they did that on purpose so the women could sew dresses with. I know it was a hard time for people at that time.

Laurie Crater they did at first just come out white and women would dye them with flowers or beets. When they learned what they were using it for, the company decided to color the material themselves to increase sales and later on started adding design. I heard the stories from my grandmother who lived during these times. She use to take apart the dresses after worn and then reuse the material to make crocheted rugs. I still have her beating wire they cleaned rugs with on my wall. The rugs were extremely heavy.
@LadyLeda2
@LadyLeda2 6 лет назад
What a great story from your grandmother Cj!!! Times sure must of been hard back than for the women to use feed sack material for dresses. I have a rug my grandmother made during that time. It is put together strangely with thick black thread in the middle of wool strips so the wool stands on the ends instead of the flat side. I should take it to the Antiques Road show to see if they could tell me anything about it, because my research brings up nothing.
