Everything that could go wrong did in this video! I do manage to sew in signatures to two of the five Little Golden Books. I hope you'll laugh with me, not at me! lol!, at this comedy of errors!!
I use waxed thread all the time and all you have to do is take the needle off, put your thread through the button, then put your needle back on. The waxed thread is stiff enough you can thread through the button holes without a needle!😉
That's exactly what I was saying to myself as you were struggling with getting through the holes - just take needle off, thread button and put needle back on. But it's nice to know you are just like the rest of us!
I'm glad I wasn't the only one trying to send psychic messages thru RU-vid!😆 Gayle, you are always SO much fun and although I felt bad for all that was going haywire, it is good to know that everyone struggles sometimes, cause it's easy to think we're alone in our own crafting chaos!😁 The books are beautiful!🐇
Julie...seriously....was I the only one that didn't think about taking the needle off??? I really think my brain goes elsewhere when I turn on the camera! Thanks for the tip though...I'll remember it for next time! ❤️
Oh Miss Gayle, I'm sure you would have thought of it if we all weren't there peeking over your shoulder!😆 I can't even imagine crafting on camera, knowing hundreds and hundreds of people will be watching. That's kinda terrifying but you make it look so easy & you teach us all so much. I'm just glad we could all contribute to solve the button vs thread dilemma!😉
Oh my, I'm exhausted with you!!! I struggled right along, held my breath and honestly laughed out loud many times!!!!! What happened today is SO ME!!!! If anything can go wrong, it will with me, but, like you, I just laugh and carry on!!!! I admire your temperament so much, and I'm so happy that you can laugh at yourself, because accidents or struggles happen to every single one of us that are into crafting/art stuff!!! Makes me admire you even more, and, just always know, I'll be right there with you every step of the way when things go not as they are suppose to!!! Add being super clumsy, knocking things all asunder, and that's my everyday way. I laughed so hard, with you. You're right, you just have to laugh. After all that, the books do look adorable.

Gayle, don't feel bad. The other day I was sewing in a signature and I sewed it upside down. I was so frustrated, and it didn't help when my hubby chimes in and says that I should really pay attention. Wrong thing to say to a frustrated woman with a Little Golden Book, a needle and an awl...Just sayin'. It was all in good fun. I feel your struggle. It is so worth it when your journals are done though:) Thanks for sharing the good and the struggle. It's good to know I'm not the only one.
I don't know about you Gayle, but I have to do tedious things like adding signatures in the morning. After I get tired everything goes wrong.. Your giggles at the end probably prove you were exasperated. These are the cutest little books ever. Will be great fun to see the flip through. Hope you were able to have a cocktail and relax with your amazing young guest after.

You're so wonderfully even tempered. Those books would have been out in the yard if I was encountering all that. Lol. The knot in the thread would've done it for me. Lol. It's good to laugh about it. Thanks for the giggles.
Haha, Donna, yes! Chucking these books into the yard was definitely an option! Luckily I had you all to keep me going full steam ahead!! And, you guessed it, the last three books bindings went without a hitch...go figure! 😂😂😂❤️

The real deal and I love it. If only our customers knew how much time we speed on doing crafts. At least here in Sweden it’s hard to take a correct price for JJ and art and things like that.

You are a riot. I have yet to try this, but bought some LGB’s and will be attempting this. I will surely have bandaids on all my fingers from the needle. So you will not have any of the pains I will experience.

O Gayle, this was a great video, you made me laugh with you !! I was trying to say,,, take off the needle and just put the thread thru the button then you could have used the buttons you had already picked out !!! haha, but the ones you put were still very pretty !!! I love my Gayle time! LOL I just love your Golden Books, I found all my son's books they are almost 30 years old and I'm going to be working on them soon. Just a little hint about the buttons sometimes I will use a needle threader to get the thread through those stubborn buttons or a piece of wire folded over will help too.
Hi Gayle....they are turning out adorable....I use the waxed thread and love it but when the needle doesn’t go through I take the needle off and it goes through quite easily...just a tip maybe. Tfs Hugs and blessings 🌺🌴🌵🌞
Those books are gorgeous! I think watching reality is important so that we can also learn to work around challenges. It's also good to know all of us run into challenges. I'll have to admit that you're pretty determined when you run into challenges. I usually have to walk away from it and return to it after a bit....lol

Get a small tack hammer and it should take only a tap on the awl to pierce the spine ; you don't want to hurt your shoulder !Keep small pliers handy to pull the needle through ( Med. Needle nose ) .
Hi Gail, I love all your videos and your journals are amazing! I am attempting to make one for my daughter-in-law, but I am stuck! I am not understanding how do you sew in the single pages? I've watched all your tutorials but I just can't seem to figure out how to sew in a single children's page from the book into a signature??? Help!
Trisha, if you have a single page, you’ll need to attach two pages together to make the double page to sew in the signature. Put two pages side by side and run washi tape down the middle, or a strip of paper, or strip of fabric. Then you’ll be able to sew them in. I hope that makes sense and helps! ❤️

Like the golden books. Sewing is hard. I don't have the clips and I have to sew each page I going finish tomorrow the journal I am making for my sister.
Question: approximately how many sheets do you put in each signature for your little golden junk journals? I've been watching and watching a hoping you'll say and I'm not having any luck. Love your teaching style. You have a very patient demeaner.

looking so good. I love golden books. I have so many, I need to start making more journals. I'm slow at them thou. u really get them done fast. how do u decide how many tags and pockets. I seem to always go over board. lol
My world in okc ...yes, really hard not to go too overboard. I went a little overboard on these. Spent a lot of time on all the elements. But as long as we are having fun, right??? ❤️
Next time you have a button you want to use and, the nettle is to big- take your nettle off and tread your tread though the button and , then put your nettle back on the thread.
I'm sorry that I was laughing about your struggles, not at you but, with you. So many times these things happen to me. I absolutely love the buttons on the spine! Do they get glued as well?
Hello Gail, what is the needle you are using to thread the signatures? Thank you I have a suggestion - When you can't get the button through the needle slide the needle off and feed the thread through the button by hand, without the needle. You will get every button of your choice on that way.
Poor Gayle. You could just tread the buttons without the needle. The twine would go without any problems and you would not have to change your choosen buttons.
