If you're looking for an inexpensive chainsaw with a pole attachment, then the 8 amp 10 inch chainsaw from Craftsman may be what you're looking for. At the time of this video it cost $98.00 from Lowes, and to me was worth every penny. I took down two bald cypress trees in my front yard, and sectioned them to be hauled off. This chainsaw really impressed me, so I wanted to leave a positive review for you all that are interested in a tool like this.

I just got myself one of these a month or two ago because I was tired of the manual pole saw I was using. First impressions were: As just a saw? It's really damned good. Like. Really good. Surprisingly good. I'm not taking down 50 year old oak trees here, but just doing some trimming on some terrible elm trees at the house and it's managed them just fine. Putting it on the pole is super easy, but dicey. It puts a LOT of weight on the business end of the pole and when you extend it out all the way it's a little unwieldy to operate. But it works. I'm glad I got the thing.

I agree. I get nervous if I use the extension inside the pole.

good little chainsaw, but the circular output disc teeth wear out way to fast and a new output disc cost 1/3 of the original saw cost. Something is wrong with this... The old Poulan drive gears lasted much longer. c

A few years ago, my brother (a master carpenter) referred me to an electric chainsaw. Said it surprised him how much it would do, just take your time, he said. Well, we were one of the unfortunates in the Dec. 11, 2021 tornadoes in KY. Now, we had no electricity to run this, but we had more than enough trees and logs in our yard even after 2 weeks of no electricity. I used this chainsaw and was able to do some major cleanup. I ran this for a week or two cleaning up our yard. And cut up a lot for firewood, too. It impressed my other brother and a couple of guys on the block. One who borrowed it for his yard clean up. I've had this since maybe 2019? Minor work around the house, major tornado cleanup, still going strong today. Just take your time, this will take care of a lot.

I Had two 40 ft. crepe myrtle trees in the front yard that were waaaay overgrown. Borrowed my nephews gas chain saw and could never get it started (flooded). I went to Lowe's and bought the Craftsman 12 amp corded chain saw. I was highly skeptical of what it could do . It mowed down those trees with ease. I did learn to make sure the chain was always tight. Also an electric was so much better than a gas saw because I had no help and had to cut the limbs in 4 ft pieces . I would have spent half the time cranking a gas saw.

Your video was well done, I was able to figure out how to assemble it. The written instructions it came with were close to useless. However, I am not a fan of this saw. It cuts branches well as long as I dont go more than 4-5 feet over my head. But it is so top heavy I wasn't able to finish trimming the branches higher up and decided to return it.

Just bought one on an auction site for a whole $7. I have a Craftsman s165 which has a 16" bar and to be honest Craftsman makes a good saw for your routine around the house jobs. I'm not sure I would recommend a Craftsman for every day heavy use. That would be for a Stihl, Husqvarna or jonsered

Does the safety button and trigger on the pole handle override the button and trigger on the saw itself? Maybe you could do a video on how to assemble and operate the chainsaw attached to the pole! Thanks
@ReelGreenLawn
@ReelGreenLawn 2 года назад
I’m not sure if it overrides the button and trigger on the saw itself when it’s attached to the pole. However, the attachment on the pole for the saw encapsulates the trigger on the saw so there’s isn’t a way to access and engage the trigger on the saw once it’s attached to the pole. I should be getting it out soon for some trimming and I’ll make a follow up video on what you’re asking. Thanks!

How do you tighten up the chain
@ReelGreenLawn
@ReelGreenLawn Год назад
You need 3 hands it seams, but I pull arm away from the motor with the chain in place. While you’re holding it to keep the chain tight with little to no slack, put the bolt on and tighten. Hopefully that makes sense. Not the easiest thing to do.
@cowboy7988

Besides adding the oil before use did you have to do anything with the chain or can you use it right away? The chain seemed pretty tight when I opened the box. Thanks

@ReelGreenLawn
@ReelGreenLawn 3 года назад
Per the manual, it says to use high quality bar and chain oil for proper lubrication. However, as a temporary substitute, you can use non detergent SAE30 weight motor oil. The use of vegetable based bar and chain oil is recommended if pruning trees. I used 10w30 motor oil for my whole job. I had to fill the reservoir a few times, but it worked for me.

Make sure the bolt on the arm is loose, then put the chain around the sprocket on the motor and on the arm, then pull the arm away from the saw’s body to tighten the chain while tightening the bolt with your other hand. Then wrench it tight… if that’s not working then you have me stumped.

Does it come with an adapter to plug into end of plug when your wanting to use it as a handheld chainsaw?
@ReelGreenLawn
@ReelGreenLawn 2 года назад
Yep! And they are both attached to the chainsaw. One plug in is for the pole extension, and the other receives an extension chord if you are only using it as a regular chain saw. Just did some fire wood the other day, and it’s still running strong!

@@ReelGreenLawn Thank you for your prompt reply. I had already bought this chain saw before I found your video. Now, I just used it for the first time, for nearly the same reason you used it, and it worked very well. But, after using, I opned it to clean it. Now, I have two questions: a) In your video around 7:15 you used the word "wash" to clean the fly wheel area; I preumse you didn't mean water. But, how should I clean it? Should I use a Q-tip around the edges or something else? b) There is considerable oil inside this area. Did this result from my having put too much oil in the reservoir, or from something else? Or, maybe this is to be expected?
@ReelGreenLawn
@ReelGreenLawn 2 года назад
@@johnpottenger1210 when I clean it, I use q-tip and paper towels to get all the gunk away from the sprocket and fly wheel. I don’t add any more oil to those parts, because it already is pretty oiled up from being used. I find mine gets pretty sloppy in there too. I assume that is expected because the oil reservoir uses quite a bit of oil everytime I’ve used it. Overall I don’t do anything special except get all the gunk out and clean of debris.

I loosen the bolt, pull the guide arm out away from the handle, which makes the distance from the sprocket on the motor longer and as a result tightens the chain…hold the guide bar in that position and I hand tighten the bolt back on until the guide bar won’t move.. then tighten with a wrench. Hope that helped!
