Ethanol has been the death for owners of gas and 2 stroke in general. What a time to be in the small engine repair, golden big bucks for sure. I admire you for working so hard to help us figure these things out.

I’m h Glad it was helpful and thank you for commenting. Check out Aspen4 fuel and your problems with the ethanol will be solved :)

I appreciate the reply and suggestions. That fuel is $25/ gallon. I wish they’d just sell ethanol free fuel for $3.00, lol We have places that have it, but 40 minutes drive, but if I bought a 5 gallon jug, $15 vs $125, but now I think it’s worth the drive, lol. Appreciate the helpful tips, you help me see it’s really worth it once in a while to just make the effort. What drives me crazy is we have q places to the west of me that have it, 40 minutes away, one or 2 to the East 45 minutes away, and all the marinas have it but they add a dollar or two per gallon. One new gas place advertised they were going to carry ethanol free gas, but lied and never did, ugh!, lol

Awesome. I have this exact model, just passed on to me by a coworker who didn't use it for about three years. Pull cord broken, wouldn't start so I watched this video a few times. I removed the carburetor and cleaned (not really clean) and got it to start. I tested it with the leftover snow from a few days back. Will get a new carburetor in a few days. In the meantime, the real test will be tomorrow... we have a storm coming, so will see it is worth using it and keeping it. Thank you.

Great video! Thank you so much for making such a good video. It was so nice to see step by step on how you took everything apart and explained how to put it back together again. I have the same problem with my snowblower which is an MTD. Thank again for you great video!

Great explanation for my issue. Going to use this video as my guide, pretty sure my Troybuilt (which is the same as this except for name) is the same issue. Thanks for helping all of us.

Yes, I have learned there are at least three different versions of this engine and I'm pretty sure I have all of them on video. I just put up on this video in the description, "How to clean the carburetor" It was from a TroyBilt version. That may also help you if you can rebuild it. Her is that link if it will help. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-_ngK6l6_J7g.html.

Or cheap ones? And what work bench do you use? Is it air powered? I’d like one like yours

On the China engines, I use aftermarket and I try and get the OEM carburetor for Tecumseh if available. I definitely try to rebuild and save all original Tecumseh carburetor’s if possible as they are getting very hard to get the OEM carbs. Thank you for watching and commenting:)

I have that exact blower that I use to blow off my deck. It tends to eat auger belts, but I overload the heck out of the poor little thing with many feet of snow (UP of MI). I'm very careful to either run it out of gas every spring or add a load of stabilizer as I know that carb is a bugger to get at.
@JohnsonsSmallEngines
@JohnsonsSmallEngines 9 месяцев назад
Try spraying silicone in and around the intake augers and exhaust chute before using the machine. It will help the snow go through the machine better and may help keep the belts from breaking. You should apply the silicone before blowing snow. I spray every machine I get in as part of the service.

I appreciate your video on this. I can't find Aspen 4 in my area, but the big box store has TruFuel 4 Cycle available. Do you think it will work as well as Aspen 4?
@JohnsonsSmallEngines
@JohnsonsSmallEngines 6 месяцев назад
My opinion and there are facts to prove the Aspen fuel is better then TruFuel but I will say TruFuel is much better then pump gas. TruFuel it is! for you :).

Thanks for the video. So I have the same engine on a TroyBilt 2410 with a 179cc MTD engine. I have spark, good gas, been using it already this winter, so gas has been fresh, and absolutely no start. I checked and pulled the flyweel, and it was not out of alignment with the key. Compression seems to be super (120-130 lbs). Why is this guy not starting? Spark plug is sparking, with a steady blue spark. the tester has like an orange/red glow. Even when I spray starting fluid or put gas directly int the carb, no start. Any ideas? Thanks.
@JohnsonsSmallEngines
@JohnsonsSmallEngines 5 месяцев назад
From what you saying, it should obviously run and it doesn’t make sense. I would try a brand new spark plug. I have seen strange things with spark plugs. I cannot diagnose a machine I can’t see and you seemed to have covered everything. Maybe you will get lucky with a new spark plug.
@raymondjackson6069
@raymondjackson6069 5 месяцев назад
@@JohnsonsSmallEngines it the original spark plug, but I'll give it a go. Thanks for the quick response. Also, I when I let the starter run vigorously (a few more than normal seconds), sometimes a puff or two blows out of the carb. That's why I pulled the flywheel to see if the key had snapped.

Hello, I have a Craftsman Snow blower (model: 247.886912). It has a similar carb setup as the one in your video. I want to install a fuel shutoff valve but am having a hard time figuring out how to do it. Got any ideas? Perhaps you can create a step by step video.

I am surprized someone hasn't made a video on it. Did you search it? I may in the future when I get some time but all snow throwers I work on are customers. I have been using Aspen4 fuel and you will not need to modify your machine if you switch to this fuel. Here is a link to read about it and to search to see if you can get it local to your area. www.aspenfuels.com/products/alla/aspen-4/

Nice video, I have seen lots of carbs that bad and sometimes have to run them thru my ultra sonic cleaner until I can replace the carb. Some times they are so bad, the customer has to wait for new parts to come in. I like your lift table, looks better than mine. Where did you purchase it? Thanks for the video.
@JohnsonsSmallEngines
@JohnsonsSmallEngines 9 месяцев назад
When the carburetors are that bad, I just replace them. I normally stock the carburetor but this one I had to get. The good news, there is plenty of time before the snow gets to our area and the customer was smart to get it looked at before the season. Bought the lift about 15years ago online. Can’t remember who from. I know it was built in the states but don’t recall who. I will see if I can find a model number on it and get back to you.

Hi, I have the same snowblower. I took all the gas out last year to stored it in my basement , now I put new gas n it won't start, spark is good , for some reason it will not prime @all. Gas isn't make it to the carburetor. I use a needle to inject gas through the prime hose and it will run for about 3 seconds. Any clue why this isn't priming.
@JohnsonsSmallEngines
@JohnsonsSmallEngines 6 месяцев назад
You may have drained the gas, but there was still some inside and that went bad. You will need to remove the carburetor and rebuild it. Most likely one of the jets is clogged. That is why your machine will not run.

really poor design of the motor if you can't clean the carburetor without disassembling the whole motor.

What kind of monster would design a machine like that?
@danfrain1
@danfrain1 9 месяцев назад
The kind of monster that knows he’ll never have to work on the machine. There are cars built that require that an engine mount be loosened and the engine lifted to be able to change the spark plugs. Obviously they were not built by people who work on cars.

@@JohnsonsSmallEngines There is a Husqvarna 1330sbexp that is not starting from a seller and I am thinking of buying it. With watching your very informative video my inclination is that it may be something to do with bad fuel or a carburetor replacement. This snowblowers seems to be over ten years old with that, would the cost to be fixed by a mechanic like yourself be somewhat cost prohibitive? The snowblower seems to be in good condition otherwise.
@JohnsonsSmallEngines
@JohnsonsSmallEngines 5 месяцев назад
I just did a little research on the model you are looking into and if I looked all up correctly, the machine has a old style overhead valve Tecumseh Engine on it. Tecumseh is out of business and the older original engine parts are getting harder to find. I do know they no longer produce the original carburetors and the after market carburetors for Tecumseh are junk in my opinion. I do like the older Tecumseh snow king engines but I am not a fan of the older over head valve Tecumseh engines "just my opinion". There are allot of variables when it comes to buying a snow thrower. If you would like to talk about them? Go to my website, send me your info through my contact page and I will call you.

Where can I order replacement carb for my 123cc craftsman blower ?? S/N. 161-jwa0903032B0104.... Amazon or eBay strike me as low or questionable quality.
@JohnsonsSmallEngines
@JohnsonsSmallEngines 5 месяцев назад
Go to sears parts direct online and use your model number not your serial number to find the carburetor number, then purchase one through sears, amazon or e-bay. They are all China carburetors unless you have a Tecumseh or a Briggs & Stratton engine. If you have a Briggs or Tecumseh engine, I would suggest going to your local small engine repair shop to get the original manufacturer, if they are still available. I have noticed that Briggs is now purchasing some carburetors from China also, not good.
