they just needed to go through this. Look at edmonton and how many times they have been to the playoffs and lost. They were suppose to win it all last year and vegas put the boots to them . Its sad what happened but usually you have to lose some games to be better for the long run
On the balance, just about everything went right this season. Some of that karma caught up with us by the end, but you can't mope about the few things that go wrong when the vast majority of it went right. The best part is now the core knows how to establish a culture and standard, and what it means to be a competitive team for this city. I imagine new guys will be whipped into shape pretty quickly. Full confidence in coaching and management. Nice to look forward to the future for a change.
Looks like a huge mistake to sign him early if Petterson disappears in the playoffs. Who cares about reg season. I don’t wanna say it but the same could apply to Hughes. Maybe he’s just too small
Doubt it would have saved that much. His market value comparables are still in that range. Maybe it would have dipped as low as 10m, but I doubt it would even be that low. He was in a slump even as he signed. Needs to figure out his skating and strength issues this off season because when he loses a step he has no confidence to make plays. Top guys all have that ability.
@@Tribuneoftheplebs He may have been injured but that just adds credence to the idea that he may be too small for the playoff grind (where he likely was injured).
@@747Cone maybe but injuries are kind of random. Nashville is also an abnormally physical team compared to other potential future playoff matchups. Nurse got injured during our last playoff run which led to the Oilers getting swept by the Avalanche. It happens
Who would've thunk that bouchard would be the best all around dman in the league in the playoffs. His defensive game has improved astronomical and nobody has stepped up like he has in these playoffs. I remember people laughing at me when i was saying that they can teach him to be better defensively and now here we are he's played 12 games and has 20 points, and a plus fuckin 10, the highest plus minus in the league thus far. Whose laughing now at the camp trade bouchard losers
Do you think if we lose Paul Coffey our defencemen and defensive game goes to garbage again? Or can they finally become that team that defines the defence wins championships consistently?
Does anyone think that EP$)'s woes this season have anything to do with his contract negotiations? It seems like last time he went through the negotiations with Benning, he really struggled that season to find his form. Could it be that the process of negotiation (which he wanted to wait for till the end of the season) impacts him psychologically in an adverse manner? Hopefully whatever the issue is can be cleared up and we get the old EP40 back.
I also think sometimes we forget these guys are only 24, 25 year old kids. I remember when I was 25, I didn't have it all together and I didn't have the extra pressure of hundreds of thousands of fans and media watching my every move and calling out every single mistake I made.
I want a Canadian team to get the Stanley Cup this year, not sure Oilers are getting by Dallas, never mind Rangers or Panthers. Fingers crossed! As a lifelong Habs fan, I found myself browsing the NHL shop for Edmonton and Vancouver jerseys - both teams really rose up this year.
I would never have signed him. Look at every big game in regular season play and he didn't show up. NOT a pressure player. He and his agent were smart to grab the $ before the playoffs exposed hus limitations
Lindholm is a good player but not what they need. They need a playmaking winger to replace Mikheyev in the top 6. Then fill out the 2nd pair defense (Zadorov and someone else) and then Joshua.
As an Oiler fan, who's seen the Oilers victimize Zadorov now in 2 playoff series, with 2 different teams, make sure Z isn't gonna be a liability to your team before you lock him up long term. He gets dragged into the muck too easy at times.
Well it was a great season hopefully Rutherford can find some more good 1 year deals to replace all the guys were losing this year.Otherwise will be back to being outside looking in again
No we won’t .. the pacific is shit right now. flames , ducks , sharks , Seattle .. even the kings might take a step back. I think it’s still the oilers , knights and Canucks for pacific just the order might change
I honestly agree, however with that being the upside....the downside is that were the weakest division in all of the NHL and the final 4 will usually see our teams lose and I hate it so much it is not fair the last 4 and this year if Dallas or Florida win then the last 5 teams are all tax free states and can sign Makar for 8 mil or 9 mil or MacKinnon for the same or Oettinger for 4 or 5 million and the one exception is Vegas who are from our division but still a tax free state and oh they won it last year, Colorado before, Tampa twice before Colorado, Dallas or Florida most likely this year, like it's garbage and not fair @@About36Greekss
Disappointed the Canucks lost but thankful I can now shave this beard. I'm a lot older now, I've learned I don't have the same patience for itchy beards that I did back in '94 and 2011.
Hydrate, moisturize and make sure to actually clean your beard with a beard brush to also exfoliate the skin underneath. Beard oil after a good scrub is imperative right after a shower. Never blow-dry your beard, only pat it dry with a towel. Source: I am a beard wearer.
I just don't understand how no one is talking about how soft we are in the top forward lines. No legit stanley cup contender are as soft as we are. Only JT out of the top 6 makes any D man think twice or cough up the puck. Petey did a couple times, but not enough of it. We need some size and grit on those lines to run deep
We weren't winning any puck retrieval battles. It would go like this; Oilers/Preds dump the puck, Canucks mess around in their own zone for 30 seconds looking for a perfect lane, dump it into the corner, Oilers/Preds retrieve and dump it back. That, or they would get it out of the boards using speed, but back pass it to no one and have to race back to avoid a break away against.
@@shawnfisher7434 yup 100%, only the Lindholm, Joshua, Garland line and the 4th line depending on the composition were able to win battles, retrieve the puck and get a cycle going. Edmonton, Dallas, Florida, and New York all have the ability to cycle and maintain sustained pressure due to size, strength and speed on the top lines. It wears the opposing team down over longer series
It's incredible how powerful that bandwagon is. At the start of the season, Canucks fans would have been surprised and happy with a wildcard spot. By November and December, if you didn't think the team was going to win the President's Trophy and the Stanley Cup, you were a pessimist, and that carried on into the playoffs. When the Canucks were being beaten by a clearly superior overall team with the 2 best players in the game, people started whining. "Why is this happening? They're not working hard!" Sometimes, even when you're trying your best and on your game, you get beaten by another team that is just better than you are. Obviously the fact that the Oilers are top heavy could hurt them eventually, but the series came down to a struggling Canucks' power play, made worse by the Boeser situation in Game 7, and the Oilers' talented players taking advantage of some good fortune, mistakes by the Canucks and just being the better team. I don't know that the Canucks win this series if Demko is 100% healthy. He might have stolen a game. But arguably, Silovs stole a game or two in this series, so I don't know what else they could have done. There are still obvious holes in this team, and if they address those, maybe we can expect them to go further. But as it is, They had a great season and went further than I expected them to, even when they overachieved in the first half, which a lot of fans failed to identify.
I believe that Petey could be suffering from a now overly structured and defensive team playing style. Something very dramatically changed in Canuck’s scoring half way through the season when 3 or more Vancouver players were leading the league? Petey does not now talk or play, like he is a happy camper.
My little daughter was scared last night and claimed she saw a ghost in our living room. I had to explain to her that it was just Elias Pettersson on our TV set.
That's bullshit. If you actually watched the game last night, Pettersson was actually one of the better Canucks forwards going to the hard areas, forechecking, making plays. Didn't end up on the score sheet, but he was actually making an impact. Garland goal doesn't happen if didn't pressure the Oilers during their breakout. He hasn't been good overall this playoffs, and it is definitely disappointing. But last night, he went to play. I actually thought he had a better game than Miller last night.
Im with RLJ on this. Petey has no friggin wingers! Hellooooo! If McDavid played with guys like Mikheyev, funnyman and Homelander his production would drop tenfold too. Petey actually likes the physical play. I doubt he likes playing with uncreative players though.
Adversity right from the start with Demko going down and with Pettersson being a ghost this Playoffs and with Boeser getting injured after game 6 was the final straw that broke the Canucks back. Vancouver will be a force for the next 2-3 years.
The Oilers were 100% beating the Canuckleheads in this series! You must admit that Skinny Petey and Little Boy Hughes were never going to beat Bouchard and Nuge and their Oilers!!!
