Whew.. we're making our way "thru" this series and we're now on the home stretch to completing the trip. In this episode we take off from Middle Baron Lake and make our way past Upper Baron Lake, up the Baron Divide, and then all the way to Cramer Lakes where we set up camp and call home for the rest of the day/night. This was a great day but the unfortunate part of it was we had to leave one of our hiking members behind due to injury.

Beautifully captured! You're really doing the Sawtooths justice in this series man! The Cramer Lakes are definitely in my top 5 of all of the places in the range without a doubt. Too bad that one site was already taken (it usually is). You're a much braver man than I am swimming in that ice cold water by the way, haha ;) Looked like good times for sure though brother!

Thank you John! Yeah all day while we were hiking in I was thinking to myself how we had to snag that campsite at the middle lake. That view was insane! I think we still really lucked out with our spot at the upper lake. I can definitely see why Cramer would be in your top 5! That was no doubt the coldest water I've swam in, but man did it feel good afterwards.

Hey thanks Charley!! Cramer was an absolutely awesome alpine lake, and I highly recommend it. From the waterfall to the views all around you won't regret it 😊 Imogene is one I haven't been to yet so I'd be jealous if you tackled the loop. I'm itching for the snow to melt so we can get out there. Do you have any other fun trips planned for the year? Thanks for watching!

@@DannyJSchaefer Cirque Of The Towers is top of my list & I have my fingers crossed for the Enchantments. There's a peak on MT/ID border called Graves Peak that my partner was not prepared for so we turned around. Its a must do this year. What should I be excited to see from you this year🌲

I've never had to end a trip early because of an injury but I'm sure it sucked for Bob. I was on an over nighter in the San Gabriel Mountains in Los Angeles County several years ago and one of the guys with me had the sole of his cheap hiking boot come mostly unglued before we had even made it to where we were supposed to camp for the night. Forcing us all to turn back and help him hobble back to the trail head. That ended our trip early
@DannyJSchaefer
@DannyJSchaefer Год назад
Yeah it was super unfortunate! That sounds like quite the trip you had. Injuries don't happen often, but it takes a group effort to come up with an effective plan to extract the hiker. I think it's all situational dependent, but it sounds like you guys were able to successfully get that guy down and to safety. Thanks for sharing, Dirk! And thanks for the continued support to the channel!

Hehehehe, you looked like you were still pretty beat from the day before. I am not sure I could have gotten up while it was still dark out!!! We are going to keep an eye out for Bob to see if he "pops up" in any of the future videos! We could not see him in the overview video you did of the entire trip. Instead of playing "Where's Waldo?", we will be playing "Where's Bob?" 😊 Loved Josh's comment, "there's no great way, just up." I imagine bypassing the switch backs up the trail saved a lot of time, but that had to expend a lot of energy as well. You guys must have mountain goat in your DNA! What a great view from on top of the Baron Divide! Loved the shot of the Baron Lakes below It looked like you had a solar panel on the top of your pack after you left the Baron Divide. Is that how you were keeping all your gear charged? OMG, that shot at the 8:25 mark was breathtaking!!! We saw that in the overview video you did. That is just gorgeous!!! I am not sure if the shot at the 8:35 mark was in the same area, but good Lord that was just amazing!!! Hats off to you for making the rest of the trip with those blisters! Yikes, that had to be rough. Not only do you have to deal with the pain, but you need to make sure they do not get infected. Wow, that could really put a damper on the day! I never get tired of those alpine lakes!!! The water is so crystal clear, and they are all so beautiful!!! Too bad the camp site was taken. It doesn't seem from the videos you saw a lot of other hikers. Ohhhh, that dip in Upper Cramer Lake looked refreshing for sure!!! We could tell it was cold, but I bet that felt good. We can't believe you went back again!!! You must be part polar bear!!! Nice Jack Dawson reference!!! Luckily for all of us, you survived!!! Question, does Josh's "Alpine Tent Lodge" have a casino? 😊 That homemade burrito bowl looked pretty tasty!!! That would be a great video!!! We bet you have a ton a great recipes you perfected over the years!! We hope you can share them all someday. There was never a doubt in our mind's you made the right decision. If anyone has watched even a few of your videos, it is clear you take safety seriously and you would never leave anyone behind, especially one of your friends unless it was well thought through and everyone was on the same page!!! Glad Bob was fine, and Josh could continue the hike with you. Josh rocks!!! Can't wait for the next video!!!

Haha I'm not going to lie this trip beat me up pretty well! I wasn't sleeping nearly as much or as well as I would have liked to 😬 I slept for about three days straight when I got home! Yes you'll have to keep an eye out for him.. I can assure you he wasn't in this video.. or the next one I posted for that matter. Hmmmm? Yes Josh's comment was straight to the point! It definitely goes faster just cutting straight up, but you're absolutely right to where it expends a lot more energy. It gets your heart thumping that's for sure! Man it was beautiful on top of the Baron Divide! That was a solar panel! That's the Goal Zero Nomad 10. I pair it with an Anker 20000 battery bank and it takes forever to charge it, so I'll usually mount it to my pack just to get some passive charging while I walk :) It usually does a pretty darn good job of charging my devices. The shot at 8:25 was probably one of my favorites if not MY FAVORITE shot of entire trip. My typical shots include alpine lakes and peaks, but this was just a valley and it hit a little bit differently. I'm glad you guys noticed! I probably spent ten minutes at that spot and made sure I got a good one. The next shot looking the other way was awesome too! That was looking up the valley towards Cramer Lakes! Oh man I can't describe how bad the blisters were.. not to complain 😂 I was actually limping at times when I wasn't filming myself! I thought for sure one was going to get infected to be honest. It was purple and turned into a blood blister by the end of the trip. Hopefully not TMI for you! The alpine lakes are so pristine. I never get tired of them either. You need to get in there! Haha thanks for catching my Jack Dawson reference. Thankfully I survived, but it would've been nice to have a door to float on. The lake was so so cold. I swam in one a couple of weeks ago on the most recent trip and actually stayed in, so I know Cramer was extra cool that day! Aha his tent does not have a casino sadly! But it is a full bed and breakfast :) The burrito bowl is amazing! It probably didn't look as good on camera, but it really does hit the spot. I may have to make a video on that someday! Thanks for the nice comment on our decision to split the group up! It definitely wasn't easy, but it was the right call. Thankfully I haven't gotten any backlash for it here, but thought it was a possibility! Thanks for watching Mongo and your Mom!

@@DannyJSchaefer I can imagine! I am not sure where you got all your energy to push through all 50 plus miles. I would have slept for a week! You know, I think I have that same exact solar panel. 😊 I have a few different brands, but I was big into the Goal Zero stuff when it first came out. I am glad it does a good job! Yes, hard to argue with that shot for sure! That looked like Heaven on earth!!! Oh wow, those sounded bad! Glad you were able to make it home! I hope they are all healed up by now. Yes, I am pretty sure I saw an iceberg floating in the background!!! Great work, as always!!!

I'm really enjoying your videos of your trip! I'm planning to do a 70 mile Grandjean to Grandjean loop later this year. I see that you used an ursack. Did you see consistently see enough trees at your campsites that provided limbs to properly do a bear hang?
@DannyJSchaefer
@DannyJSchaefer Год назад
Hey thanks Chris! That Grandjean Loop will be awesome! I think what you're asking is if I saw enough trees around the campsites to properly hang a bear bag instead of using a Ursack? Other than directly where we camped on Sawtooth Lake, there's an abundance of trees everywhere that would be suitable for hanging a bear bag. Even at Sawtooth Lake you could find a spot, but may just have to walk farther than you would at the others. Did this answer your question? Let me know if you have any more regarding the route. Thanks again for checking out the videos!

Hey Danny... my wife is really interested in your freeze dried burrito bowl. Did you ever do a video on them? I can't find it if you did🌲
@DannyJSchaefer
@DannyJSchaefer Год назад
Hey Charley! I never made the video but I'd be happy to write it out. It's awesome! Burrito Bowl Recipe: Mix the following ingredients together and it will create a burrito bowl mixture for a 1:1 ratio with boiling water. For example, a 1/2 cup of the mixture will be reconstituted with a 1/2 cup of boiling water. It should take about 10-15 minutes to cook. -1/3 Cup Dehydrate/Dried Black Beans -1/4 cup freeze dried chicken -1/2 cup instant white rice (I use Minute Jasmine Rice) -One to two true lime packets once it's cooked (optional, but highly recommended) Here's the links to what I use: -Black Beans: packitgourmet.com/black-beans/ -Chicken: amzn.to/3BWR4Uz (Amazon Affiliate Link) -Jasmine Minute Rice: amzn.to/3oAcRyf (Amazon Affiliate Link) -True Lime Packets: amzn.to/3CeSp9z (Amazon Affiliate Link)
