Cranberry Lake 50 - Backpacking Adventure

Bruce takes on the Cranberry Lake 50 challenge in late May 2019. 50 miles in 3 days seems easy enough, but the spring muck and the challenging terrain slowed him down more than he expected!
Cranberry Lake is located in upper New York State in the northernmost parts of the Adirondack State Park.
Not to mention, the Toronto Raptors' game 7 of the second round of the NBA playoffs was on the 3rd night of the adventure. A game that can't be missed! Can Bruce hike the complete loop in 3 days and 2 nights?

Thanks for producing these videos. I stumbled on your channel researching the CL 50. I've watched a million backpacking videos and found yours to be right up there with the best. I look forward to watching more and hope you document future hikes!

Matt Gross thanks so much. I'm just completing the videos for the Bruce Trail... and VLOGGING with The Trek Channel this year while hiking the Appalachian Trail... Great video Bruce! wow your tent and sleeping bag must be ultra compact, seeing from your small backpack. I'm also interested in your hiking shoes, so thanks for the link below. And definitely the Raptors trumped any hiking this year!!!

Thanks, Colette, I have posted the pack, tent and sleeping bag in the video details... I loved the sleeping bag, and my tent is new. Lovin' it so far. I am currently testing and comparing 4 tents for the Appalachian trail next year. Stay tuned. :)

Sadly no wolves in the Adirondacks, but eastern coyotes are way bigger than their western counterparts. Genetic evidence suggests they may have interbred with gray wolves on their trek eastward however!

I just completed the CL 50 3weeks ago solo hike 3 days 2 nights had a great time. I will do it again sometime little slower next time hitting some of the side trails I passed up just to finish the 50

What would you guys say the elevation gain was? From this video, I'd say it was pretty flat.

I'm curious to know but what did you use to let you mark your route and show what you didn't do (blue dots/white solid line) along the map? Do you use some special software?

I used a Garmin Mini Inreach for tracking... and created the dotted line in the video with Apples Keynote application.

You now have to go back and finish the trail. No wolves, just "coyotes" and they are a hybrid of wolf/coyote.

I was testing and loving the Altra Lone Peak 4 low RSM - they have a waterproof membrane of "eVent". eVent is a waterproof/breathable membrane I have used with jackets and loved it then... the membrane is awesome with the Lone Peak 4 RSM's... bravo Altra.
