You probably already know this, but i thought i would tell you in case you didnt. I have watched all of allen millyard videos. He is a master mechanic and fabricator and engineer. He has some info on doing this. I think you would enjoy his videos if you haven't heard of him already. He has some bikes in the barber museum.

I am still learning this process myself and I really like the jigs that you have made. Having good fixtures makes all the difference in the world when you're dealing with close tolerances like in this case. It does take a lot of patiences and time to get them trued within .001. Keep up the nice work my friend and stay safe out there.👍

Thank you. I will have a vid coming out soon with an in depth look at trueing a crank. Working on it now.

I skipped over this video waiting for the proper time were I could focus and concentrate on all your work. I've watch the eq build that lead up to this and now have a better understanding on the process. But I didn't follow on what you were tapping on for the fine tuning., I assume the round shaft base? Then my mind wanders to the fact of will it change the True when reassemble and motor running? Or on the other hand, if it's reassemble being out of True the frequency of rotation will increase the amount it not True overtime. My hat's off to you for the entire series. A major undertaking. 👍👍

I didn’t get into the actual process of truing the crank on camera because, well I was learning myself. I have a very good understanding of what I am doing now and the next crank I do, I will elaborate fully. The part I was hitting on is called the web. If the crank is out of true, it could cause vibration and premature bearing failure. Once it is true, it will not come out while running

Wow now I see where the cost is on rebuilding the crankshafts comes from not the pressing its the parts and truing that is whats expensive.

I don't have a plate for separating the crank and so cut the pin. Then when I press it together I just press it on half way, then I true it up, then press it together with about .017 -.020. Using the pre spacing visual and measurements. And the shop book when available. I made my truing stand out of a 2 x 4 piece, 8" long with 2 pieces of aluminum plates cut to a "V" and sharpened to a point so the crank can rotate with very little friction. Never press the pin straight through both crank halves at the same time as distortion of the pin bore surface causes truing issues. I also don't have a press guide, but that would be nice. I have to use a straight edge

I appreciate the info. I made these tools to make this job easier and hopefully it will get easier the more I do. The plate was $6 from my local metal supplier and a bit of labor to cut it out makes it much easier I believe than trying to cut the pin I feel.

Another awesome video. Picked up an OEM crank for a yz250 a few months ago came in at 8" out funny how they just send them in a box just big enough to fit with foam that doesn't even cover the whole crank, from memory the tolerance is 3". I also last week got a wrench rabbit kit for the daughter's kx65, first time using one of these kits and it came in at 7" out of wack not sure of the tolerance for that but I put it in as is. Keep making quality content mate learning alot, Awesome stuff.
