BFG Krawlers are some of the best real tires! Lots of tube chassis dedicated crawlers run BFG Kralwer red label (NON DOT) sticky tires. I don’t have my own crawler but have friends that do and that have these full scale tires. They are unbelievable in real life. They hit lines that you wouldn’t even think a real tire could get grip on. For reference check out Flex, Rocks, and Rollovers RU-vid. They do a 24hr hell and back crawl challenge and most of those guys are running these tires as well. With that being said, I think these scale tires are one of the few excepts to the lose performance in the sake of scale appearance because they are absolutely amazing real tires as well. I’m not entirely sure which compound would be the most similar to the real tires but I love them on my RC crawler in G8. I do believe they have a G8 red label version that is supposedly the same compound or as close as you can get. Not saying these are the absolute best RC crawling tire that exists but I would easily say they’re among the best scale version of a real tire! Great video I love your in depth reviews and feedback!!!

The Grappler might be the worst tire Axial has to offer. It's the one that makes me doubt that all their tires are in R35. If you drove the Grappler and the Baja Boss back to back, you'd think they were made by completely different companies.

Glad to see you get to try these tires after so many of us were like, hey these are pretty good. The foams turn to mush after breaking in so yeah, they need some help on inserts. I checked out the Canyon playlist too. I'm squarely in the death metal camp these days with bands like Allegaeon, Inferi or Enslaved, but Mastodon still hold a spot in my heart. The Massive Attack song is stellar though. The Mezzanine album is just brilliant and I don't think anything else has really captured that chill magic for me in a way that isn't a complete snooze. Also turns out Blood & Thunder was the first Mastodon song I heard that got me to buy their CD. Their older stuff is so much heavier but I loved what they did with Crack the Skye

I inherited PL 4.3" TSL boggers on a trade and have been more impressed with them than I thought I would be. They look great mounted on SSD Steelies on my straight axle 10.3 JLU. I've got the .060" thick PL 12.3" Gladiator body on my Stagedive. It has survived much abuse so far, including 10' to flat that broke the rear axle housing in two.

Krawlers are a copy of a real off-road tire. Not an on road tire. And the real one is a great performing rock crawler tire. These are my favorite scale tire by far. They perform in all terrains very well. Definitely need better foams. I run dual stage. You should try the G8 if in hot weather. I find the predator way too soft in hot weather. Northern climates are great for predator

They're $32 a pair on amain. It cost a little extra for scale tires because they have to pay the full size manufacturers a licensing fee in order to reproduce the scale version, so I can understand the extra few dollars. I just got a set of krawlers in G8 compound. Can't wait to try them out. The squids in my bfg KM3's will fit in them perfectly so I don't need to buy more inserts yet. Going to try the KM3's one more time with the new setup before I switch them so I can have a better comparison.

I… don’t understand… This guy: “they work really good!” Also this guy: “Thanks for putting out this info to save someone else” ????? I mean they’re like $5 more per pair than other brands…….on your $500+ RC ????…. 🤦🏽 Amazon tires are silicone junk if that’s the pricing we’re comparing proline to.
@CrawlerCanyon
@CrawlerCanyon Год назад
ProLine are $5 more per pair plus the price of inserts, as the included foams are too soft for even a rig sitting around 6lbs. Those foams are SOFT. But let's ignore the price altogether-- who is the exact market for a 4.75" scale tire? There's a list of 4.75" tires that will give better performance by not copying a BFG of some sort. The extra 5 bucks is to pay for licensing that literally none of us need. At all.

Informational as always. Would you speculate that tire wear on a rig with od front approximately 20% would wear more on the front or rear or not at all?
@CrawlerCanyon
@CrawlerCanyon Год назад
One end is gonna wear faster than the other, I can say that for sure. As to which end? I dunno. ICFTW 17 is running 30% rear UD, and I can see the difference in wear already, after minimal wheeltime. But it's the rear, which is moving slower, that has more pronounced wear, counter to what I would have thought would happen.

The only Proline product I’ve used so far is a cliffhanger body, I just love the look. Unfortunately it’s cracked 6-7 times in very limited use. It’s just terrible Lexan. The entire interior is basically drywall tape and shoe goo. I’m going to try their Hilux body just because I love it and there’s not a ton of Toyota options but I’m going to preemptively drywall tape everything but the windows before it ever hits a trail. Half the reason I have a bucket list dream to visit the canyon is the potential to learn some stuff and get some Canyon maintenance advice. My Gatekeeper just always feels like the front geometry is off but I can’t tell exactly what I’ve done wrong. I know you’d know just looking at it. I know you’re not really into Patreon but if you had an expensive tier where you’d look at pictures of people’s problems and help them work it out, I’d be your first subscriber.

You can't deny that this is one of the best tires i have seen u try Glad you're putting Pro-Line feelings aside and finally trying a set it's great to see they did amazing on the Canyon I wish you would try more and forget about what happened with the old company that's out of business now I think an 80 rating is a not a fair score for how they performed I think it's that feeling of you hating the company is why you rate them so low they crushed everything you threw at it pretty much
@CrawlerCanyon
@CrawlerCanyon Год назад
Lacking side bite, atrocious sidehilling. High 80s on a better foam is likely, but outclassed by a fairly long list of tires. Drop the price $7-8 a pair to offset the jokes PL calls foams and we can move that score up. The uncut, unmodded S1 Canyon Trail was a bit better than the Krawler at around 2/3 the price. The Krawlers did about as well as I expected them to, but they would not be my first, third, or fifth choice regardless of manufacturer or pricepoint. Plenty of tires do better. They do look good, though. Gotta give 'em that.

@@KevW-z7z IIRC the Pro X scored better, but the Pro X (not just Pro-Line specific) is one of my least favorite tires. The Baja Claw is a scale tire, your tone towards them seemed a little different, lol
@CrawlerCanyon
@CrawlerCanyon Год назад
The 1:1 Baja Claw is up there with the USD Sticky in terms of "don't drive this on the road," with some of the tallest lugs you can find on a tire-- it's also an MT compared to the Krawler which is an AT. But sticking to scale, X2SS is significantly softer than G8, and (almost unbelievably) the foam in the Claws is actually functional. The Claw is pretty much the best performing tire RC4WD makes, and the performance on all surfaces put it up near the very top. The Krawler is in the area of a Fossil, but with worse foam. And Fossils are cheap.
@NTX_RC

@CrawlerCanyon
@CrawlerCanyon Год назад
I used 4' long 3/8" dowels and 1x6 whitewood boards. Starting 2" from the bottom, holes are drilled every 6" vertically, and spaced 3" apart. Eight dowels and one 8-foot board would replicate my rack, about $25. You can make things much easier on yourself by buying a drill bit one size larger than the dowel-- so for a 3/8" dowel, a 13/32 works well. You want the dowels snug but not too tight.

I’d really like to see these on printed foams. They’re 100% being limited by those foams, need some support to keep those lugs upright. Judging tires based on stock foams is…. Eh. Inserts are 60% of the game
@CrawlerCanyon
@CrawlerCanyon Год назад
A Krawler on a 3D printed insert is going to be bested by any number of other tires on a 3D printed insert. If you're going to go "all in" with $50-60 inside the tires, pick a tire that can fully exploit that capability. No matter what's inside, a Krawler is never going toe-to-toe with a 3D filled Tusk or similar. And absolutely 100% a tire gets judged on the foam it comes with-- about half the companies in the game give you a usable foam-- I have plenty of rigs on "free" inserts. But ProLine should stop pretending and just sell the tires empty. Charging $33 a pair for tires that need the foams discarded for 80% of users is smart business on one hand, and deplorable on the other. The very same goes for RC4WD and their useless foams. At the same time, RC4WD gets a little bit of a pass, because they don't stomp around claiming they sell THE COMPETITIVE EDGE
@V8chump
@V8chump Год назад
@@CrawlerCanyon what tire would you recommend for wet river rocks, mossy tree roots, and loose dirt hills on my printed foams? Been SO hard to decide! I heard predator krawlers were the best tire in wet conditions (rocks) and loose dirt applications from people like RC-TNT. They did very well in his tire shootout but all tires were on stock foams I believe (all on same rc as well)

@@V8chump As someone living in the Pacific NW, I see a lot of people running Krawlers and I have a G8 set myself. I like them on my TRX4 but I did need dual stage for them. Once that proline memory foam breaks in, it's just mush as you see here and that doesn't take long. I've had surprisingly good luck with Class1 Landmines if you need a C1 tire. I ran my C1 truck on Landmines at the last Evergreen State Bigfoot run and they did great on the moss around Mt St Helens. My wife was driving my NWSD chassis Sendero on the Hyrax and did awesome in spite of her newness to RC. The Tusk is a performer in the wet too. I like the Predator Hyrax but a lot of people up here trash talk them. My current fav has to be the Tusk. Polished trail roots and river rock may as well be like ice some days 😂. A few of the top drivers here at comps also run Pit Bull tires but I haven't tried any yet personally. Craig's tests are the reason I tried the Krawlers and they have not disappointed.

I have the 2021 Bronco TRX4. I also went full fat 2 stage pro-line inserts but I'd bet Amazon 2 stage would do well. Not sure what proline does to its lexan but the ones I've got seem to have a 'dappled' finish. Its like the glass installed in a bathroom window. Also it must be the thinest lexan ever, I've see proline refer to it as 'lightweight' LOL. Never getting a proline body again. Their tires have been ok for me.
@CrawlerCanyon
@CrawlerCanyon Год назад
I've come to the conclusion that ProLine states the thickness of the lexan that the body is pulled out of-- so they take a sheet of 0.060", pull a body out of it, and call it 0.060", even though it's now half that thickness. Deltaplastik makes shells that are 2mm pulling, (which is 0.080") meaning they have to be 3mm+ before going into the vacuum.

How about mud?
@CrawlerCanyon
@CrawlerCanyon 3 месяца назад
I would say in general, "avoid it." ;) Beyond that, any tire with what I call "monoblocs," that is, lugs of the same height and size, will not handle mud well. The Krawler also has far more lug than gap, so it will grab that mud, hold on, and turn into a glazed donut. Usually, tires with trail/woods/etc in the name handle the muck better, and tires with mud in the name (like KLR/M) handle it best. IME, the Duratrax Deep Woods/Louise Champ don't care how muddy they get. They just keep chugging along.
