What an awesome house, I would love to have seen it years ago. I hope you enjoy this explore with us and are having a great day. Thank you for your continued support, we appreciate you all more than you realize.
This place was built in the early 1900's by Albert Andrew Bass and his wife Anna Bass. They lived and worked the mines for 20 years until his wife died. He died shortly after. Another miner took up residence after WWII and worked the mines for another year. Today the place is completely abandoned and considered to be a "secret" location by the very few locals in the area.

I just seen this video and the first thing that popped in my head with the rock, in the desert animals hide under rocks to keep cool. Maybe this human seen this rock and thought I bet if he built a lean to shack under this rock it would be cooler than a shack out in the open. Was there a temp change??

For climate control purposes being under that rock would be awesome placement for the cabin! The geothermal properties of the rock would absorb the heat during the day keeping it cool and release it during the night keeping it warmer. Really cool!

Please cover up any holes like the ones you found, especially the well, cuz critters will go in in search of water...or leave a big pole or stick in the hole so critters can climb out. I love exploring old places, looks like you have alot of fun, but also have respect for the past. New Mexico is full of abandoned homes, the old melting adobes are a fascinating look into the past. I lived in the mining town Tonopah, Nevada for a few years. The patina on the wood there is identical to the wood in this video. The shacks in Tonopah are 100 years old plus so this is most likely an old mining homestead from many years ago.

WJK, Yeah, that's what I was thinking, marking it with a few small flags (the construction flags) or bringing a small piece of plywood to paint (danger) on. I guess some people like James thinks it's fun to fall 30 feet into a cistern, or having your kids fall in.

This is the most awesome place. I noticed there was a metal stake with a ring on top of it to tether an animal to in between those two buildings and it was likely housed in that smaller shack, probably a goat or cow, so they could get fresh milk maybe? I think that hatch that led to the rock was used for cold storage as the rock would help to keep the temperature down. Just a thought. Love this place.
@ExploreWithUs

Living in England as I do you don't come across many remote or abandoned places, i did once stay in a remote holiday cottage (former farmer's home) in Scotland which was lovely. Originally compromised of just two rooms it had an outside toilet and a bath at the bottom of the garden looking out over a valley and using underground heat sources to heat the water. It worked really well and had fantastic views. When I got used to it and my fear of being seen, after three days, I finally had a proper bath; as in a naked one!

Excellent find, and _so strange._ Amazing that the original owners found it, mined it - and somehow also managed to make their way to civilization how ever often for supplies. They could have opted for a much cushier lifestyle. Did you get a chance for even a cursory look at the mine to see if it's worth a return visit?
@ExploreWithUs
@ExploreWithUs 7 лет назад
I agree, I always wonder how they find these places, crazy. I do plan on going back to the mine tunnels now that I know the right way to get there. I took a bunch of wrong turns on the way (I should have filmed it, but many times I don't know how much you all want to see), so now I will go back the right way and explore the mine tunnels. 🙂

You could always do a compilation bloopers sort of video. These usually appear so effortless, like you just drove straight there. You could do a Bass Camp wrong-turn dead-end 1, 2, 3, 4 and just keep it brief. I think a lot of people would probably like to see the real effort you go through to locate these places, and even getting back out. Home at 3am! Woot!

That hole in the ground is called a cistern, a common feature in remote arid homesteads. Water is life out there and if there is no viable well water or other water source then capturing and storing rainwater is the only option. Someone below thought it might be a cowboy's line shack and I'd agree.The amount of work and expense to haul out that much cement and pour that cistern tells us that this place was intended to be used for an extended period. Appreciate the video.

Watching from Colorado. We have lots of cool trails but no where near the amount of open land to explore like that. Very impressed with your Armada as well. It's spooky, and even scarier when you're out there alone.

Just started watching your vid today and I am hooked! You do a great job. Though it would be nice to read some of the writing on the walls if it's not just graffiti. Thanks for your very entertaining work.

Just came acrossed your videos in my You Tube feed. I'm a truck driver and much of my travels are the middle of nowhere Nevada and California deserts. I am always curious what is out in the distances where I can't get to in a tractor trailer or what is in an old abandoned structure I can see in the distance. As you can imagine your videos are fascinating to me.

I use to pick up loads there in Gabbs. I forget what the mineral was but I always delivered it to food processing plants so it is used as some kind of filler or preservative. Heavy stuff. Always hated to get them loads because it was 4 hours to the first scale where you could get weighed to see if you were even legal or not. Beautiful lonely place out there. Did enjoy the drive.

grandprismatic Cj-7 is a ton Cheeper and you can mod it for off road. Plus the Cn-7 looks a ton better

grandprismatic, agreed, they are awesome too! 👍👍 I definitely need something more off road worthy, that's for sure. The Armada is more of a glorified grocery getter.

Explore With Us Just make sure it a 6 cyl not a 4cyl, or if you can find one with a Chevy 350 or Cummins in it those are good. I recommend mid 90s xj, there cheaper than a cj, yj, and tj. Also XJ are easier to mod in my opinion, and they are strong, let just say they can drive through a cornfield in summer.

back around 2000 my wife and I were sleeping in our camper near Moab. in the morning the camper started to rock. scared my wife. I told her its probably a cow. sure enough a cow was rubbing on the camper jack. I used my air horn can to get it to run away and we left.

I really enjoyed this video. The first little shack you showed us is called a miners shack. It's primarily used for cleaning and sifting the ore from the mine. Very few miners cleaned there ore in the same shack that they lived in because they used mercury to separate some of there gold and silver deposits. Good job on this video and keep up the good work.
