Dennis Page Much better to go fast in the beginning. It’s a stupid idea of the ‘last burst of energy” at the very end. In reality, it’s much easier to work hard in the beginning, then pace, them transition from medium to fast when you’re already tired.

Sounds like it’s a good idea to get the advantage done at the start, then watch the rest trying to catch up while you switch off and keep up the gap. It may reduce a bit , but you can have the view in your favour by being a spectator at the rest of the runners, plus no bumps or incidents. Happy brain in switch off pain! Win from the start!

FreyaIs Trash I don’t know what kind of high school you’re at, but people at my school are usually at least 14. Very few people on JV track and field at my school would be able to get 5:07 for a 1500m race. Maybe about three of them. Anyways, I’m pretty sure 5:07 is well above average for a time that a 12 year old girl should be getting.

For anyone who thinks this is mediocre, even the 13th place finisher would beat out of sight, 99.99% of all adult males on the planet or in the country over this distance! When the first girl took the lead, she covered the first 100m in under 17 seconds! Most men could not even sprint 100m flat out in that time! She then hit 200m in 35 seconds - she should be a sprinter!! She reached 400m in 75 seconds - 99% of all adult males would be spent by now. And yet, these are 12 year old girls and they carried on for another 1100m! Laps 3, 4, and 5 were roughly 45 seconds each, getting the next leading girl to 1km in 3:29!! That is absolutely insanely quick! That is a minute quicker than I can do it and I'm one of the fittest adult males in the country. By race end, even the 13th place finisher here would have beaten me by some distance.

gakaface this whole 'article' is complete nonsense, unless you are from an almost uninhabited place like Greenland or whatever.

Thanks mate. If you are an adult male and in good shape, such as a club level runner, you'll know how impressive these girls are. If you could beat them, then well done, you are one of the 270,000 adult males on the planet that could. Of 2.7 billion males, only just over a quarter of a million can run this fast and, if 10% are in the USA, that's just 27,000 pro, college and club runners and naturally very, very fit men, from an adult male population of approx 90 million. If you are one of these, then you should recognise what you are looking at, disregard yourself from the equation, and notice all the dozy tossers you see on the street who can barely raise a trot for 50 metres.

You must be from an unfit country if you’re one of the top athletes there, and if 12 year old girls are able to beat you.

If you have ever competed in mixed ability, open races, you'd know. If you haven't, you don't.

OK, the winner ran a good race, and may be someone to look out for in the future. But what, in the name of all that's holy, possessed you to suggest anything about this race was even remotely crazy? Was it clickbait? If so, long-term, it has the exact opposite effect, because people henceforth will see a catchy title next to your username and simply ignore it. I know I will, anyway....

I am faster 😉 My personal best on 1'500 m is 4'35" (for a mile 5'06", but I could do it under 5', because this time was in January when I was less good).

This time would have beaten the women's world record..... in 1927. I have to say that the winner has a lot of upside. Her form wastes a lot of energy. I was surprised she had so much left at the end. The girl in 3rd place looked like she was running a 400m.

That would mean a 12 year old girl ran 3000 meters in 5:07. This would shave 3 MINUTES off the current women's world record. If that happened the announcer might be saying a bit more than 'wow'.

Ok, everyone! It may not be a crazy finish, but you don't have to say rude things like this about us runners who are trying hard to become national champs. They did well, and they should be proud of themselves. I am proud to have met them and run against them in March 2019.

It was a nice, competitive race with a good kick by the winner. But "crazy"? What was crazy about it? Clickbait, stupid headline.
