Chuck shows you an Easy Way To Level Your Bed on Creality Ender 3 (or any similar size 3D printer). He uses two GCode files: the first to position the nozzle above the adjustment screws and the second is a test print for live adjusting of the bed. When this is completed your printer is ready to print.

I find wind up or down until the paper bends when sliding between nozzle and bed,, back off, then adjust till it bends again on all 4 screws, go around a few times. I got mine to 0.05mm across the bed using this method, results via the bed visualiser in Octoprint to show level.

I purchased an Ender 3 a few days ago and I must have watched this video at least six times from start to finish. I downloaded the gcode files and ran the bed level program three times to ensure the center was set correctly. After the third test, I used the second file to print the squares and it printed perfectly the first time. No loose filament, print held on the print bed, and it had no additional "strings" or flat/high spots on the squares. Thank you so much for this video and the files! This definitely helped me level the bed and ensure I put my Ender together correctly.

I was helped by this video (and many others from this channel) when I got my very first printer (Ender 3) in 2019. I've added countless upgrades over the years including a BL Touch for automatic bed leveling. It has been so reliable for the last two years that I had completely forgotten the basic process of manual leveling...until I needed to do it today while troubleshooting an issue. I was very happy to see that I had saved this video in my Projects playlist all those years ago. It is just as useful to me today as it was back then. Thank you to CHEP for all the time and effort that goes into making high quality educational content that benefits the entire community/hobby/trade!

@@FilamentFriday I'm wondering though, the very next print failed at the first stage, it's a design I downloaded from Thingiverse. It's a tree ornament, I sliced it with Cura with Ender 3 selected as the printer. I left all settings as default. Could this be the issue? I'm using manufacture settings for the PLA, 215° for the nozzle and 70° for the bed.
@deanbestall
@deanbestall 5 лет назад
@@FilamentFriday Furthermore, I'm now trying the test file that comes with the printer, the dog. So far so good with this one. Is this because this has been sliced with optimum settings for the Ender 3 and not necessarily the defaults Cura gives it?
@PlayscBricks
@PlayscBricks 5 лет назад
@@deanbestall I just got an ender 3 for christmas. Leveled the bed without this video and printed the dog. Came out great except was a pain to get off the bed. I went to print a new item that I sliced using cura standard draft profile and it wasn't sticking. I thought I didn't clean the bed well enough. Tried and tried again. Found this g-code and the bed was way out of level. Re-leveled with this g-code and it's perfect now. Every time I remove the bed to remove a print I'm definitely leveling the bed. That is until I get my BL touch installed. (This is my first and only foray into 3D printing. I have been watching youtube videos for a month on this stuff.)

Thanks @CHEP - great video! Glad it's working for a lot of people, but FYI it doesn't appear to work with all firmwares yet. I have an Ender 3 Pro running Marlin 0.0.6 dated May 30th 2020 - I ran the M25 as prescribed but it just goes to the first point, stops and does nothing. In your video you make it advance to the next corner just by pushing the button, but that just opens the menu like usual for me. I can select Resume Print, but it proceeds to heat the bed up to 80 degrees when I do. Anyway - looking forward to the next version because I've basically been doing this same procedure manually which is getting really old :)

I used this method with great success for a year and a half until I started printing larger prints with eSun PLA +. I was getting extruder skipping, stringiness and bumps pretty bad if I tried to print more than 3 objects at a time at full speed. I actually fried the extruder driver on my motherboard I think because my nozzle was too close to the bed just using one sheet of paper. After replacing the board, extruder gear, even the hot end and still getting skipping I decided to lower the bed further and folded my thick printer paper in half and set it loose against the nozzle, just past having it grab at all. That did the trick! Regardless, none of this testing would have been possible without your awesome bed leveling gcode. Thanks so much!!

I wish I'd watching this before my second print 😅I was digging grooves into my mat with the nozzle from poor adjustment. Now it's doing great thanks to you and the test developer!

I put my machine away for the last year or so as I got tired of getting it wrong time after time. I got it out today to see if there was something I can find or do. CHEP, you are a legend. I'm printing ABS for the first time ever and it's looking amazing! I'm only 5 minutes into the print and I'm totally overwhelmed, thank you so much!!!!!

Hi there, I just tried to run the g code to level the bed and it just keeps going round without stopping for me to check with a piece of paper. My Ender 3 Pro is running 0.0.6 firmware. Is there a way to upgrade it back to a more recent version? Many thanks.

Hi thank you so much for uploading these wonderful gcodes. However, I did run the leveling gcode but the nozzle doesn't stop.. I mean it stops but once the nozzle touches bed (supposed to stop) it keeps moving to other position... I'm stuck...

Hey man this is a very good process to level but in 90% the ender 3 bad is not flat!

That’s why the live Z is used to finish it off.

@@FilamentFriday My bad is not flat, the corner is more height than the center. For me best way is to distribute the error all over the bad leveled in relation with the axis and the model. Is it right for you too or I'm in bed?

That’s why I start at the screws. Most corners are higher than center.

I use a piece of paper with the arrows showing which way to rotate the wheel for up and down, that way I only have to look at one thing while rotating the wheel with the other hand. I'm easily confused.

What do I do or check if my nozzle is to far up even with all of the turning wheels all the way up as far as I can put them? I just put it together yesterday an this is my first time leveling so I'm guessing I did something wrong..

You need to adjust your z-axis switch. The clicky button on the vertical bar is too high and needs to be lowered

This worked the fist time really good. Now I tried is 3 times in a row, and the layers stick. But if I try to print something else it completely falls off. I've wasted 1/4 if my pla roll on this... I just can't get it to work.

The thing i can't get a straight answer on is how much resistance the paper should have.
@bentegek
@bentegek 3 года назад
I adjust it so its its a little hard to push the paper through but not too hard it folds if that makes any sense.. And I don't lower the nozzle on the paper but slide it under after it's lowered. I would also adjust to do the steps twice or until you don't have to adjust the knobs anymore. Because aligning one know might slightly off set another.
