Omg you'll be SO GLAD you bought this. We regularly make butter from our goat's cream. And I cannot wait to eventually make ice cream! We store ours in our shed. It gets a good rinse before using again. I might put a pillowcase over it.
@DelcifromALifeofHeritage
@DelcifromALifeofHeritage 2 года назад
Good idea on the pillow case! So, the first time I tried to make butter, it never turned into butter it whipped till the end of eternity and was just a heavy, heavy whipped cream. I don’t know what to do with it now! And I don’t know why it didn’t turn into butter! I made sure the temp on it was a good temp to turn into butter and everything! 🤷🏼‍♀️
@SageandStoneHomestead
@SageandStoneHomestead 2 года назад
@@DelcifromALifeofHeritage I've accidentally made whipped butter before too. It did eventually break but it was not like butter I had made before. I have no idea what caused it. I have found that thoroughly chilled cream works best for making butter. Some directions say to let it come up to room temp but I have had issues with that.

We've had one about two years now. I've found run goat milk through slowly. Like when you open the handle to let the milk flow only open it a little less than halfway. And in the screw turn it all the way in then back it out one and one quarter turns. That should yield about one quart of cream to three gallons of milk. Cream will be slightly thicker than store bought cream. If you want heavy cream back the screw out just one full turn. Make sure the nut you tighten with the wrench is really tight. And btw if you have trouble getting the hub off after using it. Just be sure ya don't leave any soap residue on the plastic spindle end. Just from my experience. Hope that helps

Ok. Just a quick justification for high hay prices. If farmer must make a certain amount to live and one year has tons of hay to sell, he can sell it for less and still pay the bills. But next year, there is a severe drought, he still has the same bills and but less hay so, naturally supply and demand requires the farmer to sell hay at a high price. It’s not unfair. It’s not overpriced. It’s just hard reality.
@DelcifromALifeofHeritage
@DelcifromALifeofHeritage 2 года назад
The really hard reality is that next year the hay sellers won’t have anyone to sell hay to. Ranchers are offloading cows like crazy right now because they can’t afford the hay their cows need to get through winter. The high prices we are seeing aren’t the “let’s finally make a profit”, it’s “we’re going to gouge the life out of this whole thing so we can take advantage.” In hard times, the ag community needs to come together so we can keep ag going, not completely shut it all down because of greed. But it may be different in other parts. But the profit of ag is really low anyway. Add in insanely high hay prices and many go severely in the hole. But you’re right, we need to watch and pray. Continually and unceasingly
@lauraleedavid9955
@lauraleedavid9955 Год назад
I don’t buy hay by the ton for 7 goats. My advice is probably already what most small farmers already do: find a local farmer, get to know that person. Support local farmers. My hay is bought by the bale. If I bought it at tractor supply or another store… 13$/square bale. If I go to one farmer he only sells square bales for 200$ for 21 bales. My friend who grows hay sells his for 7$ a bale BUT if I pick it up off the field he charges 5$ a bale. So I can save 100$ buying 20 bales from him. I’m getting my hay from a local farmer and it’s never sprayed with anything. It’s good quality hay. I’m making goat milk ice cream with his wife because we are friends since I’ve been buying hay from them. It’s nice to be part of a community of people who take care of each other.

I have the same model cream separator and I have not had very good luck figuring out how to set the screw set for the cream separated properly. No matter what I do, I end up with a lot of cream in my skim milk side. So if you figure it out, I love for you to share it! We have a German style wardrobe/cabinet that we store all of our milking pails, rags, milk test supplies etc. It's in my kitchen and is where I put the cream separator.

@DelcifromALifeofHeritage 2 года назад
Hmm. Have you reached out to the company? Mine seems to be separating well. I did turn it to be the most cream tightness.
@SlavicBeauty
@SlavicBeauty 2 года назад
I recommend setting it to the highest setting and just dilute the cream with skim milk if you would like some of the cream to be not so thick. The cream to milk ratio with such units are from 1: 10 to 4 : 10, meaning you can get anywhere from 1 to 4 gallons of cream from 10 gallons of milk. This of course depends on the milk as well. Please also mind that this is not a professional unit and the calculations are approximate. Regarding the settings, when the little screw is flash with the plastic disc, it is the middle setting. the ratio will be about 2 :10 From that position, turning the screw clockwise one full or one and a half full turn will get you the highest setting. You will get the least of cream amount but it will be very thick (1:10) From the flush position turning the screw counterclockwise one or one and a half turns will give you a lot of cream but it will not be thick ream (4:10)

Oh! The reason I watched this- we’ve been talking about getting a cream separator all year because the whole reason we even got our first dairy goat was because one of our kids cannot tolerate anything from cow milk, including butter. He thrives on goat milk though! Unfortunately, he’s two and doesn’t understand the need to avoid cow dairy products, so we have had to omit it from the whole family’s diet for now. Would LOVE to have butter for everyone’s toast again. Do you think you’ll try adding cream to yogurt?

Is goats milk an acquired taste? Is it only people who eat extremely healthy lifestyles who cares for the taste of goats milk. Reason being of asking is I tried goats milk from a friend in Az many years ago and it was not very pleasant and had a smell like a the scent of the actual goat. I dunno it was just very strange maybe it’s because she didn’t do ANYTHING to it or refrigerate or is it SUPPOSED to sit out? I hear many of you say on the videos that after just a few short days its no more good that the taste gets yuk and gotta be thrown out. Can you please give me clarity on this because my farm is around the corner and id be noce to do a full circle with my goats and utilize the milk if I can but I have a PICKY family who doesn’t eat healthy AT ALL except a salad here and there but I am the more healthy eater and work out person although I dont eat perfect id be the only one crazy enough to taste the goats milk, I dont think I can’t convince them to try it!
