About Sweet Briar Farm
We are a small farm located in Central/Northern Michigan. We farm every inch of our 6 acres. We breed Registered Dairy Goats, Dexter Cattle, and Heritage Hogs. Clean healthy food is important to us and we like to produce the majority of our food on the farm and we grow and raise enough to sell to local customers. Producing our own food also means we forage for wild edibles such as mushrooms and tap our maple trees in the spring to make maple syrup. In 2019 we added honeybees to the farm and have had as many as 30 active hives producing honey for us.
Our goats include Nubian goats, Mini Nubians, and Nigerian Dwarf goats.
Our Heritage Hogs include: Registered Kune Kune and Hereford.
Check out more of our farm life and farm animal videos on our RU-vid Channel! Hopefully you enjoy and Subscribe to our channel. Thanks for Watching!

Just found this video. I have two pet jerseys now. Seven gallons each a day. I have made butter, cream for ice cream, cheese, low fat cheese, yogurts. I have never had to warm it up but I do adjust the cups to get heavier or lighter cream. You can rerun your skimmed milk a second time to capture escaped cream . I gave up on goats , too much work for so little milk.

We haven’t used it with our jersey milk yet. When we do we will run it right after milking.

The Vevor is junk if you use it a lot, which I did. The physics of the unit is quite good, especially after watching the videos on Minneer, which looks identical, but the lousy english translation is vexxing. All the wetted parts are stainless, so it is as advertised. After experiementing the cream screw I could make any cream I wanted. HOWEVER, once the warranty ran out, the machine went belly up. The problem was that the filter/motor assembly lost its alignment. The motor would drop so low the skim and cream vents from the filter no longer aligned with their trays. Customer service stank. I was constantly harased to make a video of the machine not working. A still picture would have been fine since nothing would move. Since they would never give me a person to talk to, I figured it was AI or they wanted to be so difficult I would tire of trying to get the machine repaired. I finally gave up, and I was glad I had spent less than $200 for lousy machine. Reliability is it main problem and their lousy customer service it the other. The current machine lacks all the early issues. Potentially, if they fix all the problems, it would be the best deal on the market. The other problem the machine has is its two-piece float, which you must separate to get trapped milk out of the float. Why they did not use a one-piece design is beyond me since it is a constant threat to hygiene and cleanliness of the system.

Has it held up? I’m conflicted, the Amazon reviews are meh and I am 99% sure the Slavic beauty is just a Chinese import, same as on Amazon but with an extra 100-150 bucks slapped on. How much have you used it?
@SweetBriarFarmMichigan
@SweetBriarFarmMichigan 4 месяца назад
We haven’t used it in a while, we don’t milk in the winter. We will be using it again soon though kidding and calving is starting soon.

That’s a great question. We haven’t used the cream separators since making the video last summer. I don’t remember exactly how we had the screw set. Sorry!

A good average is around 3 lbs of butter per gallon of cream.

I don't know why you feed the skimmed product to the pigs. Have you tried making ricotta from the skimmed product. I have made it two ways. When making butter you get some butterfat. I add the butterfat to the skimmed product and then make the ricotta. I think you could make whipped ricotta as well, but I haven't mastered that yet. The other ricotta I would make without the buttermilk (when making butter or whipped cream) and that makes a decent ricotta. Save the whey for the chickens or hogs. Skimmed milk from my nubians still tastes decent and is fine for cereals and other products just fine. Put it in the fridge and wait for the milk foam to settle.

Sounds like you’re a big riccotta fan! I agree the skimmed milk is still valuable. We were so inundated at the time with fresh milk that I chose to treat my pigs and use full strength Nubian goodness for my cheeses. The goat butter we made from the cream was tasty too!

@@SweetBriarFarmMichigan Yes, mostly I am ricotta fan since discovering the whipped ricotta. Great on so many things and in so many ways. The great thing about ricotta is how you make it. Heat, add vinegar and basically you are done. Spices you add after that makes a ricotta for every palette. And since finding out about the whipped ricottas you can make almost a cream cheese. Not criticizing, just using it as a teachable moment. Still working on making a decent whipped from skimmed ricotta...did it once...I think I know what I did wrong after that one. I agree with you though Nubian milk is really good. You also might try Lamacha-Nubians they seem to have volume and a reasonable cream level.
